"Who cares about the ends if the means are insane?" . . . Please come CAPTION Ted Cruz!!!

Ted ("Madness is as madness does&quot Cruz is saying: "What gets me, Sean," is how the main stream media are all reading the White House's talking points and blaming the Republicans for the shutdown of the government. . . . After all, where else could they have gotten such a wild idea?"

*****************************************

Above CAPTION taken rather closely from a clip in the following Media Matters story:

What do you occasionally find beside bear tracks? . . . Please come CAPTION Sean Hannity!!!

Sean ("I put my integrity on hold over two dozen years ago&quot Hannity is saying: "Hang onto your hats, folks, you're not going to believe this one. It's about the government shutdown as well. . . .Harry Reid is reported to have said he's rather strangle an infant in its cradle than even consider a compromise on Obamacare. . . . I know it's hard to believe, but there you have it."

Above CAPTION was somewhat based on the following Media Matters story where Hannity takes Reid out of context:

A beaming turd with a bow tie. . . . Please come CAPTION Fox's George Will!!!!

George ("I used to believe I stood for something&quot Will is saying: "I'm not condoning the Tea Party and Ted Cruz for their methods in shutting down the government, I'm just saying that the Republicans now know they don't have to worry about taking back the Presidency. . . . In fact, it should be called the 'Irrelevancy'."

"No more reading, no more books." . . . Please come CAPTION Steve Doocy!!!

Steve ("Ignorance is like an orgasm&quot Doocy is saying: "It's utterly incomprehensible why all the media outlets are blaming the Republican House for the government shutdown. That's the last thing they want. . . . Not one Republican has ever embraced the idea of shutting down the government. . . EVER! . . . It's clearly Obama and the Democrats who wanted the shutdown so they could have their lapdogs in the press blame the Republicans and drive them out of power. . . . That's the only reason I can see for the media's current position. . . Otherwise, it would be utterly baffling. . . . baffling!"

Above CAPTION is based (though rephrased and tweaked) on what this hand-puppet was saying this morning (10/2/13).

By contrast, count the times the Republicans actually and repeatedly called for a shutdown in the following Rachel Maddow clip from Huffington Post. They called for a shutdown before they even had an issue and, of course, it didn't stop there:

On last edit, Media Matters recently posted their coverage of Fox's treatment of the blame for the Shutdown which may prove helpful:

Even a broken clock can be right 50 times a day. Depends on how you break it. Come CAPTION Newt!!!!

Newt ("History is only history for a few seconds&quot Gingrich is saying: "Well, I'll tell you, Stephanie, back in my day we wouldn't even have dreamed of pulling a stunt like this!"

"I never knew anything I didn't already know!" Please come CAPTION Brit Hume!!

Brit ("I practice looking concerned in the mirror over three hours a day&quot Hume is saying, "The media is the real reason Americans blame Republicans for threatening a government shutdown. . . CNN, for instance, reported that it was primarily an effort to derail Obamacare. . . . Not only is that patently false, Bret, nothing could further from the truth! . . . The Republicans are trying to save the governmentt, which should be apparent to everyone! . . . And if it wasn't for the media . . ."

"I'm not really dumb, I just think that way." Please come CAPTION Elisabeth Hasselbeck!!!

Elisabeth ("I once thought I was having an idea, but it was only gas&quot Hasselbeck is saying: "Well, it turns out, Brian, that Obamacare is so terribly unpopular that healthcare.gov keeps crashing. . . That's obviously caused by irate Americans trying to give Obama a piece of their minds."

Governmental shutdown in D.C. Mental shutdown at Fox. Please come CAPTION Sean Hannity!!!

Sean ("I'll stake my reputation on it!&quot Hannity is saying: "Actually the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, that's the IPCC, reported the earth is cooling at an alarming rate which suggests humans are not putting enough carbon dioxide and other warming emissions into the atmosphere. . . . You just have to know how to read the charts, is all . . . If you just turn them around a bit, to get a fresher perspective, why . . . "

About skip fox

I am retired, now a professor emeritus at University of Louisiana at Lafayette, where I taught in the English department for 37 years. I've written 4 chapbooks and 5 full-sized books (all listed as poetry though many include other genres as well), including _Sheer Indefinite: Selected Poems, 1991-2012 (Univ. of New Orleans Press, 2012). I've also written a 500+ page bibliography of three contemporary poets: Robert Creeley, Ed Dorn, and Robert Duncan. I am writing now, both fiction and poetry, more now than ever. My first vote for President of the United States was for Dick Gregory in 1968 (Bowling Green, Ohio). Favorite quote: "It's easy to be an idealist if you don't have to mind the evidence, but no one said it was supposed to be easy" (Richard LaPauvre).
