brooklynite's JournalKamala Harris Makes Surprise Comic-Con Video Appearance During 'The Simpsons' Panel
Source: Deadline
Kamala Harris has made one of her first campaign stops in the town of Springfield.
The Vice President of the United States surprised The Simpsons fans with a pre-recorded video message on Saturday during the long-running Fox animated shows San Diego Comic-Con panel, after creator Matt Groening introduced the superfan.
We must move forward, not backward, upward, not forward, and always twirling, twirling, twirling towards freedom, said Harris with a laugh, quoting the Oct. 27, 1996 episode Treehouse of Horror VII. The clip recently resurfaced after it was recorded by a group of University of Chicago students in 2013.

NY Times: A Lot Has Changed for Women Since 2016. What Does That Mean for Kamala Harris?
In the eight years since Hillary Clinton failed to win the American presidency, the work force for the first time grew to include more college-educated women than college-educated men. The #MeToo movement exposed sexual harassment and toppled powerful men. The Supreme Court overturned the federal right to abortion.
Will any or all of it make a difference for Vice President Kamala Harris?
Ms. Harris seems almost certain to become the Democratic Partys presidential nominee after President Bidens decision not to seek re-election. As such, she faces, fairly or not, some of the same electability questions that Mrs. Clinton confronted in a nation that, unlike many of its peers around the globe, has yet to pick a woman as its leader.
A presidential contest pitting Ms. Harris against former President Donald J. Trump would represent a rematch of sorts: Mr. Trump would again have to run against a woman who held a top administration position and served in the Senate. He defeated Mrs. Clinton in 2016 in spite of her winning the popular vote by a wide margin.
But the dynamics would be unquestionably different. Ms. Harris has neither the political legacy nor the baggage of Mrs. Clinton. Mr. Trump, having served a turbulent term in office, is now a known quantity. Ms. Harris is Black and of South Asian descent.
And the country is not the same as it was eight long years ago.

Statement on Trump's Promise to End Democracy
Donald Trump has previously said if he didnt win there would be bloodbath and claimed, Im not sure that youll ever have another election in this country.
He has called for the termination of our Constitution and bragged a lot of people like his calls to be a dictator on day one.
WATCH: Last night, Trump again vowed to end democracy if he did win:
You wont have to do it anymore. Four more years, you know what it will be fixed, it will be fine. You wont have to vote anymore.
Statement from Harris for President Spokesperson James Singer on Trumps vow to end democracy:
When Vice President Harris says this election is about freedom she means it. Our democracy is under assault by criminal Donald Trump: After the last election Trump lost, he sent a mob to overturn the results. This campaign, he has promised violence if he loses, the end of our elections if he wins, and the termination of the Constitution to empower him to be a dictator to enact his dangerous Project 2025 agenda on America. Donald Trump wants to take America backward, to a politics of hate, chaos, and fear this November America will unite around Vice President Kamala Harris to stop him.

https://twitter.com/amyewalter/status/1817282196115263703?s=61Pennsylvania presidential election results could again take days to count
When the polls closed on election night in 2020, President Donald Trump appeared to be winning Pennsylvania. But over the next several days, as officials counted mail-in ballots, his lead shrunk and then disappeared. By Saturday, Joe Biden was the clear winner of Pennsylvania and with it, the presidency.
The protracted counting process left a days-long vacuum that Trump filled with demands to stop counting the ballots while he was still ahead, declaring victory in Pennsylvania and building the false narrative that the mail-in votes were fraudulent. It became a core part of the false narrative that helped propel Trumps Stop the Steal crusade and spurred election denialism among his allies and supporters that has continued to this day.
The delay was caused by a quirk of Pennsylvanias election law, which forbids the opening of mail-in ballots until 7 a.m. on the day of the election. The narrow Election Day vote margins in 2020 coupled with the unprecedented number of people voting by mail because of the pandemic created a massive backlog and left election officials racing to finish the count. Pennsylvania, one of the most hotly contested battleground states, is one of only seven states, including another battleground, Wisconsin, that doesnt allow pre-canvassing the act of opening and processing mail ballots ahead of Election Day. In 2020, 27 states allowed pre-canvassing. Since then, 16 more states have passed laws permitting it.
But not Pennsylvania. Despite widespread calls for change, Pennsylvania is likely to again take several days to announce this years winner, alarming state election officials who worry the delay will cause confusion, deteriorate trust in the process and make election workers targets for harassment.

Harris 2024 NFC Weekly Newsletter: Highlights from Vice President Harris' First Days of the Campaign
Dear Friend,
We hope you are well and welcome you to the first edition of the Harris Victory Fund NFC weekly newsletter!
Vice President Harris was very busy during her first few days as the presumptive Democratic nominee for President of the United States, and we wanted to share some of the highlights with you.
On Monday, her first full day as a candidate, Vice President Harris officially kicked off her campaign to unite the party and defeat Donald Trump and the energy surrounding her candidacy was contagious as Democrats and grassroots supporters rallied behind her enthusiastically.
Her first campaign stop was a visit to Kamala HQ in Wilmington, DE, where she met with the campaign team to thank them and delivered powerful remarks about the work ahead. You can watch her full remarks HERE.
In her remarks, Vice President Harris took the case straight to Donald Trump and made it clear: after a career spent holding predators, crooks, and fraudsters accountable in court, shes ready to defeat Donald Trump at the ballot box and help elect Democrats nationwide this November.
The Vice President laid out the clear contrast in this election between:
A prosecutor versus a criminal
A champion for reproductive freedom versus the man who proudly overturned Roe.
A fierce ally of the middle class versus someone whos bought and paid for by billionaires and is only in it for himself.
Calling in via phone, President Biden reiterated his endorsement of Vice President Harris candidacy and reaffirmed his commitment to doing everything in his power to send her to the White House this November to continue the progress they have made.
On Tuesday, Vice President Harris headed to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, for her first campaign rally after securing the delegates needed to become the Democratic Partys presumptive nominee late Monday night. The rally in Milwaukee also marked the first battleground state stop of her presidential campaign where she delivered powerful remarks to a crowd of more than 3,000 fired up supporters. You can watch her full remarks HERE.
At the rally, Vice President Harris reminded the crowd that this election will be about two different visions for the future of our country:
Vice President Harris is fighting for a future that strengthens our democracy, protects reproductive freedom and ensures every person has the opportunity to not just get by, but to get ahead.
Donald Trump is a convicted criminal running to enact his extreme and dangerous Project 2025 agenda that would roll back Americans rights and freedoms, hurt the middle class, and threaten our democracy.
In addition to the palpable excitement at her first events as a candidate, the enthusiasm for her candidacy was also reflected in significant spikes in fundraising and volunteer signups. Team Harris raised more than $100 million between Sunday afternoon and Monday evening, including more than 1.1 million unique donors since Sunday, with 62% of them being first-time donors. This haul reflects money raised across the campaign, Democratic National Committee, and joint fundraising committees, thanks to your broad-based support for Democrats nationwide.
On top of that, Team Harris raised $81 million in its first 24 hours, adding to the existing near quarter-of-a-billion dollar war chest already amassed this election cycle. With this historic haul, Harris for President saw the highest 24-hour raise of any candidate in history with over 888,000 grassroots donors making donations.
And its not just the money demonstrating the groundswell of grassroots support behind Team Harris: Since Sunday afternoon, over 100,000 volunteers have signed up to join the campaign and nearly 2,000 people applied to work on the campaign more than 3x the previous record.
We hope youll find this information exciting as we hit the ground running in this new phase of the campaign. We cant wait to continue to work with all of you to elect Vice President Harris and Democrats across the country this November!
As always, thanks for everything you do!

It states that more than 28,000 people have signed up to volunteer for the campaign after President Joe Biden endorsed Harris on Sunday. That's more than 100 times the amount of sign-ups the campaign says it sees on an average day.
"In Pennsylvania and Nevada, volunteers literally showed up at field offices asking to help," a campaign official told Scripps News. "And in Georgia, an organizer knocking doors on Sunday specifically said they wanted to keep knocking to talk to voters about 'saving democracy.'"

Harris campaign slams Trump's "strange speech" at conservative summit
Source: CNN
Vice President Kamala Harris campaign is sharply criticizing former President Donald Trumps speech at the Turning Point Action Believers Summit on Friday night.
Campaign spokesperson James Singer said in a statement Saturday that Trump insulted the faith of Jewish and Catholic Americans, lied about the election (again), lied about other stuff, bragged about repealing Roe (v. Wade).
America can do better than the bitter, bizarre, and backward looking delusions of criminal Donald Trump. Vice President Kamala Harris offers a vision for Americas future focused on freedom, opportunity, and security, Singer said.
The statement comes after Trump called Harris a bum, complained about President Joe Biden withdrawing from the race, and told Christians at the conservative event that they wont have to vote anymore if they get him reelected this November.
