Politico: GOP seizes on women's sports as unlikely wedge issue

GOP seizes on women's sports as unlikely wedge issue
Republicans from former President Donald Trump on down are couching their opposition to expanding transgender rights as a defense of girls' and women's sports.

Republicans are laying claim to an unlikely mantle: the party of women’s sports.

Eager to find a winning culture war issue, former President Donald Trump and other GOP leaders are increasingly touting themselves as champions of women in sports by pushing back against President Joe Biden's efforts to expand transgender rights. The effort — which critics call transphobic and likely to backfire — extends from the roughly 20 Republican-controlled states where legislators are advancing bills to keep transgender women from participating in interscholastic sports, to Trump himself, who told attendees this past weekend at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Florida that it was “so important” to “protect women’s sports.”

“This issue will help [the] GOP win midterms,” said Stephen Miller, the former Trump White House aide who helped write his CPAC speech.

Poll: Majority of West Virginians support $15 federal minimum wage

W.Va (WDTV) - A new poll out in February by the One Fair Wage Coalition claims that 63% of West Virginians support raising the federal minimum wage to $15 an hour by 2025.

“This increase is phased in overtime and it, in fact, allows consumption to increase,” said Coalition President Saru Jayaraman.

The federal minimum wage stands at $7.25. The last increase was in 2009. Many small businesses feel a $15 minimum wage could put them out of business. Jayaraman says that small businesses actually fair better in states with higher wages.

“Alaska, California, Oregon, Washington, Nevada, and Minnesota all have had higher small business growth rates and job growth and restaurant industry sales prior to the pandemic than West Virginia,” said Jayaraman.

On Thursday, a group of lawmakers, including West Virginia’s Senator Shelly Moore-Capito (Republican) came out in favor of a phased in $10 federal wage increase. U.S. Senator Joe Manchin says he would support an $11 minimum wage.

AOC on passing the minimum wage bill.

I agree with her. This is something that must be done. People can not live on $7-8 an hour. If it isn't raised it may well cost us in the next election

In between how Trump has energized and is a force in the Republican party I caught this

little nugget on the morning news and nothing more. The Biden administration will be charging reporters $170 for Covid testing, just that at the end of the Trump lick, nothing more. I had to look it up.

The media will prop up that SOB no matter what. Anyone tells you that bastard is done they are a liar.

White House imposes COVID-19 testing fee on reporters in latest step limiting press access

WASHINGTON — The White House is imposing a new $170 COVID-19 testing fee on reporters who want to access the West Wing, in what critics say is the latest step that constrains press coverage of President Biden.

The Biden administration already imposed sweeping restrictions, including capping at 80 the number of pre-approved journalists who are able to access White House grounds on a given day — each of whom must take a COVID-19 rapid test before 1 p.m.

Under former President Donald Trump, any reporter with a “hard pass” was able to breeze past the White House gates at any time and without taking a coronavirus test. But few abused the privilege due to peer pressure to limit visits.

The latest restrictions were announced in an on-the-record email from White House Correspondents’ Association President Zeke Miller, who is a reporter for The Associated Press.

IMO this is not a smart thing to do.

Just shows how M4A would benefit all Americans. Non professional? The man was abusive,

and made threats to destroy another person, and not for the first time. Reminiscent of what we have had to deal with for the last 4 years. He made the choice to lose his insurance. I have no sympathy for him and IMO we lost nothing. The American people got Biden elected, he just happened to work on a well run campaign.

During the off-the-record call, Ducklo made derogatory and misogynistic comments, accusing Palmeri of only reporting on his relationship—which, due to the ethics questions that factor into the relationship between a journalist and White House official, falls under the purview of her reporting beat—because she was “jealous” that an unidentified man in the past had “wanted to fuck” McCammond “and not you.” Ducklo also accused Palmeri of being “jealous” of his relationship with McCammond. (Palmeri had no prior relationship or communication with McCammond before calling her to report on the Playbook item, which was a story that she was assigned and had not independently pursued.)

Ducklo’s threats, spurring multiple conversations between the news outlet and senior-level officials on January 21, including White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki, White House Communications Director Kate Bedingfield, and Biden senior adviser Anita Dunn. In one of those calls, senior White House officials acknowledged that Ducklo’s handling of the call with Palmeri was inappropriate and said he would send a note to her apologizing for the comments. In another conversation, the same White House officials took aim at Palmeri by accusing her of breaking an off-the-record agreement with Ducklo and pressing Politico as to why the contents of the call had been revealed. Palmeri had only informed her editors of the contents of the call, which she had transcribed into her notes as it was happening, after they asked her about it.

AOC, Omar and Twitter Sued for $88 Million for 'Overbearing Pain and Suffering' Due to Trump Ban

https://www.newsweek.com/aoc-omar-twitter-sued-88-million-overbearing-pain-suffering-due-trump-ban-1561917

A California man is suing Twitter and two progressive congresswomen in connection with President Donald Trump's suspension from the social media platform, citing "overbearing pain and suffering."

In the complaint filed in a U.S. District Court in California on Tuesday, Erik Estavillo argued that he and every "follower that was, without a doubt, emotionally and mentally damaged as a result of the Presidents' ban" is entitled to $88.7 million each.

Estavillo, who is representing himself, is also seeking the reinstatement of Trump's account and a retaliatory Twitter ban on Representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ilhan Omar, who, he argues, promote "Eastern communist philosophies."

The plaintiff claims that because of various health problems, including depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder and Crohn's syndrome, Estavillo has "no friends" and can rarely leave the house. As a result, the complaint says, he heavily relies on Twitter to participate in political discourse.

I can think of a few lawyers who would be happy to help this Snowflake.
