The Treasury yield curve just inverted, sounding the alarm for recession

The yield on the 5-year Treasury note fell below the yield on the 3-year note, meaning that investors were being paid more to hold U.S. government debt maturing in three years than comparable bonds maturing in five years. It’s not the major curve inversion that investors watch for — the 2-year note holding a higher yield than the 10-year note, which has preceded every U.S. recession since World War II — but it portends that the market is headed in that direction, analysts told Yahoo Finance.

Ian Lyngen, head of united rates strategy at BMO Capital Markets, said the inversion of 3- and 5-year yields has strengthened his belief that an inversion of the 2-year and 10-year yield will happen in late 2018 or early 2019.

“This solidifies not only my flattening bias but I think it will lead many players in the market who [expected the yield curve to steepen] to capitulate on that,” Lyngen said.

U.S. Treasury yields rose early on Monday after a deal between the U.S. and China to hold off on new tariffs. Shorter-dated yields rose faster than longer-dated yields, pushing the curve to invert between the 3- and 5-year yield.

Analyst: Flynn prob named Trump or Pence: You only get a good deal if you give up someone above you

CNN analyst warns Flynn could have named Trump or Pence: ‘You only get a good deal if you give up someone above you’

Former Donald Trump National Security Advisor Michael Flynn may have “given up” the president or Vice President Mike Pence, a CNN political analyst explained on Tuesday.

Hours earlier, special counsel Robert Mueller had recommended as little as no jail time for Flynn, following his “substantial” cooperation with investigators.

Ryan Lizza explained to CNN anchor Don Lemon what that could mean for the larger probe.

“Remember when Flynn was first reported to be a cooperator, what most analysts said was you only get a good deal if you give up someone above you,” Lizza reminded.

“He was the national security adviser for the president — there aren’t very many people above him in the White House hierarchy,” Lizza noted. “Basically only the vice president and the president, right?”

“So that is incredibly significant,” he concluded

Looks like Mueller is wrapping up obstruction of justice & collusion, moving to Trump's finances?

What a fucking swamp he has to clean up. Like a bottomless pit!

Trump unlikely to trade Pence the presidency for a pardon as there's no way to save the Trump Org

Since the start of special prosecutor Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation, parallels have been drawn between Trump’s situation and the one faced by disgraced ex-president Richard Nixon.

Nixon, it’s commonly understood, offered his resignation, sparing the country an impeachment fight, and received a pardon from his successor, President Gerald Ford.

Since there is a Justice Department memo that states Trump could not be indicted while serving, and because his Republican successor could pardon him, many have speculated that the same thing will play out again.

But blogger and national security and intelligence journalist Marcy Wheeler doesn’t believe that would work for Trump.

In a new blog post, Wheeler argues that Pence’s pardon power could spare Trump prison, but not save the thing he values the most, his company.

Presidents cannot pardon companies, such as the Trump Org.

Fox News legal analyst stunned at how Mueller made it impossible for Trump to save Manafort

On Tuesday, Fox News judicial analyst Andrew Napolitano revealed to host Shep Smith that Special Counsel Robert Mueller acted strategically to block President Donald Trump from pardoning Paul Manafort.

Manafort, Trump’s former campaign manager, was busted for lying even after he signed a plea agreement.

It is unclear exactly what he lied about, but Napolitano explained that Mueller designed the plea agreement in such a way that it is “pardon proof.”
