Pictured: A doctor hugged a distraught elderly covid19 patient on Thanksgiving

A photo of Dr. Joseph Varon, chief of staff at United Memorial Medical Center in Houston, cradling a COVID-19 patient in his ICU in full PPE is going viral this Thanksgiving.

He has worked for 251 days straight battling the onslaught of daily COVID-19 cases.

His story and image represents the work of many medical workers on the front lines of the pandemic as cases surge in the US this holiday season.

"My concerns for the next six to 12 weeks is that if we don't do things right, America is going to see the darkest days in modern American medical history," Varon told CNN.

When the Trump prophecies failed

After Trump loses the election, evangelicals go nuts! Pastors and prophets incorrectly prophesied Trump would win the election and get a second term. When the Trump prophecies failed, the evangelicals (some of whom sit on Trump's evangelical advisory committee, like Paula White and Kenneth Copeland) had an absolute ballistic meltdown going into denial. When prophecy fails, evangelicals go ballistic! Here is a compilation of some of the best evangelical freak-outs. Enjoy!

Covid cases should be most commonly displayed as "Cases per 1 million pop".

This is a better indication of how a state is handling things with both NORTH and SOUTH DAKOTA doing the WORST! I know South Dakota hasn't done hardly anything to slow the spread. No mask mandate, no closing of businesses etc.

California is actually in 41st place when ranked based on population. You can click on that tab that says "Cases per 1 million pop", to get it to display the states this way.

Reporters were baffled after Donald Trump made a minute-long, unscheduled press appearance to take credit for the stock market surpassing 30,000 earlier in the day.

After his brief comment, the press called out questions, including whether Mr Trump intended to concede. The president ignored the questions and walked away.

“Well that was weird as s***,” one of the journalists said after a moment.

MYSTERIOUS MONOLITH HAS BEEN THERE FOR YEARS, ACCORDING TO GOOGLE EARTH

Here it is on Google Earth: https://www.google.com/maps/dir/38.0737963,-109.351907/38.3430833,-109.6661944/

DU has at least one thread on this: https://www.democraticunderground.com/100214615006

Well, that was fast.

Over the weekend, a team of biologists discovered a bizarre metal monolith in the middle of the Utah wilderness, prompting real-world intrigue as well as humorous comparison’s to Stanley Kubrick’s 1968 film “2001: A Space Odyssey.”

It’s still a mystery as to who put it there or why — but a group of eagle-eyed Reddit users have already discovered the location of the monolith on Google Earth.

It may only be a matter of time until crowds show up to take a selfie with the unusual construct. But just so we’re clear, you probably shouldn’t visit — you’d only end up putting yourself and others in danger, not to mention needlessly bothering the nearby wildlife and traveling during a pandemic.

Rugged Hills
According to Google’s archive of satellite imagery, the monolith appears to have been erected at some point between August 2015 and October 2016, and is less than a mile away from what appears to be a trail.

A spokesperson for Utah’s Department of Public Safety speculated to The New York Times that it could have been there even longer, telling the paper that for “all we know it’s been installed since the ’40s and ’50s.”

“Somebody took the time to use some type of concrete-cutting tool or something to really dig down, almost in the exact shape of the object, and embed it really well,” the spokesperson added. “It’s odd. There are roads close by, but to haul the materials to cut into the rock, and haul the metal, which is taller than 12 feet in sections — to do all that in that remote spot is definitely interesting.”

A Town Has Turned To Dust - By Rod Serling

“A Town Has Turned to Dust” was based on the case of Emmett Till, a black teenager tortured and murdered by a group of white thugs in 1955 Mississippi. His offense: allegedly making some off-color remarks to a white female shop-keeper. Till was hunted down, beaten, shot and thrown in a river. This heinous crime shocked the nation, and led Serling to dramatize the events in “A Town Has Turned to Dust” for Playhouse 90.
