I think that a lot of this has to do with Trump. He has created a climate/environment where racists and bigots feel fully empowered to harass people they don't like- immigrants (or people whom look like they might be), minorities, LGBT persons, et. al. They feel that Trump and other authorities (Police, ICE) have their back- and, unfortunately, I don't believe that they are mistaken.
People need to let themselves stop being fooled by them
Their only role seems to be as a Presidential Election spoiler- to weaken the Democratic candidate and allow the Republican candidate to win, so they can spend the next 4 years having somebody to fight and fundraise against (although they will still spend just as much and maybe more time attacking Democrats whom won't have any real power to do anything). They'd be more at home in the Democratic Party if they wouldn't keep attacking the party and demanding purity tests and fealty to their stances no matter how impossible it is to enact all of their agenda overnight and in exactly the way they want it.
He's afraid of doing it for some unknown reason(s)
He may be hearing from some Republicans behind the scenes that this *would* be a "red line" that he can't cross with them. Or maybe his attorneys have privately advised him that, legally, this would be utterly catastrophic for him. I honestly can't see how firing Mueller would end well for him- as if any of this will. And, try as he and his Republican enablers would like, there is simply no evidence that Mueller's investigation is tainted, so the blowback to him being fired would likely be unstoppable and even some Republicans probably know it (but won't say) and wouldn't be able to ignore the public outrage. Firing Rosenstein probably wouldn't go over well at this point, either.
Seems like it would be easier to wiggle out from that
than it apparently it is to overturn what seems to have been a SERIOUSLY fouled up American Presidential Election.
But what do I know?
Once this is all over, we need to figure out some kind of mechanism (i.e. Constitutional Amendment) to prevent a situation like this from ever and ensure that election meddling like this can result in an invalidation of electoral results and a redo. Impeachment was *supposed* to be a remedy for something like this but how can we even do that when *everybody* in power is potentially compromised?
When I read things like this
it takes everything in my power not to break down and laugh and cry (at the same time) at the absurdity and hopelessness or our current situation and how we wouldn't have be hearing about ANY OF THIS had just enough of the American public not taken stupid pills and elected this utter moron douchebag to the highest office in the country and a significant world leader. We could have had Hillary..........we could have had Hillary..........
Question about this "Tariff Aid" package Trump is supposedly preparing for Farmers/AG Industry
Does Congress have to approve this? Or can Trump just give it to them?
I don't mind Bernie when he's talking about issues or attacking Republicans
I just don't like him publicly attacking Democrats or trying to force the party to remake itself in his image, because I don't think it's useful/helpful, especially since he's not an actual member of the party. That just rankles me.
*Ugh*
So, he stuck around just long enough to ruin things for public sector workers as a supposedly aggrieved plantiff upset about having to pay union dues?
Worse for us LGBTQers (and for everybody else in some respects)
Pence is heavy into fundamentalist/dominionist ideology. A true believer. Not to absolve Trump but I'm fairly sure that 99.999999% of the anti-LGBTQ stuff emanating from the WH is coming from Pence, who Trump has essentially delegated responsibility for social and domestic policies. If Trump resigned and/or was impeached tomorrow, the Republicans would jump back on board with Pence and, probably, get more done. Trump is a dumpster fire but he's also a bull in a china shop who can't even work with his own party because he's unpredictable and he's easier for us to mobilize against and fight. My feeling is that we need to win big in the midterms to help contain Trump until 2020 and then we beat him in 2020 so that we get rid of both of them.
