The Beautiful Bay Lights

The Bay Bridge, so long in the shadows of her glamorous sister the Golden Gate Bridge, has come into her own with a dazzling, shimmering display of lights.

The Bay Lights LED installation on the San Francisco Bay Bridge officially came to life on Tuesday night, March 5, 2013. 25,000 individually controlled lights form patterns programmed by video artist Leo Villareal.

The lights were discontinued for awhile, but they're soon to be back in 2016-- by popular demand.

Found a GREAT solution to ground-in cat hair, lint, dander, and dirt on my carpets

I have four cats and, as you can imagine, the ground-in cat hair (and all the rest) were so bad, it actually changed the color of my carpet to an ugly grey. It happened so gradually that I didn't realize my regular vacuum just wasn't doing its job.

SO, after deciding I could not afford (nor did I want) new carpeting, I stumbled upon a reasonably priced vacuum cleaner that simply eradicates the build-up in seconds. I can't say enough good things about it-- it's actually fun to use.

I haven't even started to use the different brush types that are included!!

Cheers!!

Forbes.com: President Obama's Trifecta - Democrats Continue Economically Trouncing Republicans

This week marks the 6th anniversary of the stock market’s bull run, with the S&P up 206%. Only 3 other times since WWII have equities had such a prolonged, sustained growth series. Simultaneously, last week saw yet another month with over 200,000 non-farm jobs created, making the current rate of jobs growth the best in 15 years. And, in a move that has taken some by surprise, the U.S. dollar is hitting highs against foreign currencies that have not been seen in over 12 years.

It is a rare economic trifecta, and demonstrates America is doing better than all other developed countries.

Suffice it to say he was an extraordinary artist

I, myself, don't care for stand-up comedy (in his case, because I could never keep
up with his rapid-fire repartee!), but I was aware that he was a superb comic and
that many others enjoyed that side of him.

(And remember that Bogart, Bette Davis, Clark Gable, even Gary Cooper had
their share of bombs!)

Stunning Mount Tam video-- a soothing reflection of Marin County

http://vimeo.com/103249543

The Bay Area is famous for its dense fog, and when you're in it the fog is cold and grey. But there's another side to the fog and the only way to see what happens when it fully comes in and blankets the SF Bay Area at night is to be above it. Because Mt. Tam is closed to everyone but rangers and fire lookout volunteers after sunset, very few people have ever seen the majestically mysterious vapors of the Pacific ocean as it flows in to completely cover the Bay. What starts as a partial blanket quickly rushes in to fill the gaps and by 1am, the lights of the cities below eventually become completely smothered. Because this specific night (8/9/2014) was a 96% full moon, the top of the fog and the slopes of Mt. Tam were fully illuminated by silvery-blue light and the only traces of humanity left were aeronautical... the lights at the summit of Mt. Diablo, the FAA radome on Tam's West Peak, and the jets that are guided by that radome's radar safely through the fog.

Your reaction is normal

I feel that way sometimes, too. I mean, he had all the resources in the world-- wasn't there
some therapist that could have helped him? And yet, who among us hasn't thought (however
fleetingly) of ending it all? Even in Hamlet, there's the famous second soliloquy:

To be, or not to be--that is the question:
Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune
Or to take arms against a sea of troubles
And by opposing end them.
To die, to sleep-- No more--and by a sleep to say we end
The heartache, and the thousand natural shocks
That flesh is heir to. 'Tis a consummation
Devoutly to be wished. To die, to sleep--
To sleep--perchance to dream: ay, there's the rub,
For in that sleep of death what dreams may come
When we have shuffled off this mortal coil,
Must give us pause.

I'm also deeply saddened that he must have suffered so profoundly all this time-- after a
lifetime of giving us joy-- 40 years-- but he couldn't find it himself. That's wrenching.

UC Davis grad student dies from injuries suffered in I-5 crash

I grew up in Davis, CA-- my father was a professor/researcher in Vet Med and I received
my degree from UCD. Even though I no longer live in Davis, I am still emotionally affiliated
with it. Which is why I was in utter shock and sadness when I read of the terrible car accident on
I-5 that ended up killing four people. It's yet another needless accident of this type where the family's fate was completely out of their hands. We may never know why the other car drifted over into the traffic lane going in the opposite direction, but it demolished a number of families.

UC Davis veterinary school graduate Loreto A. Godoy has died from injuries she suffered
in a car crash Friday that killed three others, including her husband's parents, according to
a UC Davis news release.

Godoy, 32, and her husband Fernando O. Mardones, 36, were driving to Southern
California last week when a 29-year-old man traveling north on Interstate 5 crossed the
median and collided head-on with their car. The man, as well as Mardones' parents sitting
in the front of the car, died at the scene.

Family members told university officials Wednesday that Godoy, who died at Memorial
Medical Center in Modesto, will be an organ donor.

Mardones and the couple's 8-month and 4-year-old daughters survived the crash. They
have returned home to Davis with broken bones, and they expressed gratitude to the UC
Davis community, the news release said.

In memoriam: President John F. Kennedy

It's hard to believe we lost our President 49 years ago today, and I can't help thinking how different things would be had he been able to finish even his first term.
