Taking Credit Where None Is Due
March 15, 2022 at 10:48 am EDT By Taegan Goddard

Politico has examples of Republican lawmakers taking credit for projects in the government spending bill even though they all voted against it:

Rep. Claudia Tenney (R-NY): She lists eight projects that she “secured” while noting: “While I could not support this portion of the bill, I am pleased that the bill includes several Community Funding Projects I advocated for to benefit our local communities.”

Rep. Clay Higgins (R-LA): The Louisiana conservative lists four projects that will get funding “specifically requested and secured” by the congressman. “Despite my objections to the bill in its totality, we worked closely with the House Appropriations Committee to secure funding for several important Louisiana projects.”

Rep. Chris Jacobs (R-NY): He lists seven community projects while noting he opposed the overall legislation due to “partisan policies that erode the Second Amendment and grow domestic spending.”

Rep. Dan Meuser (R-PA): He touts $14 million going to eight projects for his district in a press release. “Passage of this bill is the culmination of more than a year of working with stakeholders in our communities to identify and secure federal support for their critical needs.”

Russian member of parliament demands Putin take Alaska while state TV host suggests nuclear strikes

Russian member of parliament demands Putin take Alaska while state TV host suggests nuclear strikes: report

Russian member of Parliament, Oleg Matveychev, who is known for spouting Putin's propaganda, showed another clip of Fox News host Tucker Carlson with his own comments.

“There isn’t a single country in the world that is as easily manipulated as America,” Matveychev said. “Here’s what will be on the table after our victory... After Ukraine’s demilitarization is completed... we’re going to raise the stakes... For example, the lifting of all sanctions... The dissolution of NATO, because the presence of NATO in some countries is getting in our way. Extradition of all war criminals... like [Anton] Herashchenko [former deputy minister at the Ukrainian Ministry of Internal Affairs], Zelensky, [former President of Ukraine Petro] Poroshenko. Extradition of various oligarchs, like [Mikhail] Khodorkovsky."

"We should be thinking about reparations from the damage that was caused by the sanctions and the war itself, because that too costs money and we should get it back. The return of all Russian properties, those of the Russian empire, the Soviet Union and current Russia, which has been seized in the United States, and so on."

“Are you including Alaska and Fort Ross?” the host asked.

“That was my next point. As well as the Antarctic," Matveychev, continued. "We discovered it, so it belongs to us... Also, the return of all medals that have been unlawfully taken from our sportsmen during all Olympic games, as well as the extradition of [Grigory] Rodchenkov, along with the extradition of multiple other criminals we’ll want. I think we should start voicing all of that, so they understand what will be on the table. You didn’t want to talk to us about something small, like Ukraine’s neutrality, here’s what you get. And that’s not even all of it.”

'It's the right thing to do': the 300,000 volunteer hackers coming together to fight Russia

‘It’s the right thing to do’: the 300,000 volunteer hackers coming together to fight Russia
Ukraine appealed for a global army of IT experts to help in the battle against Putin – and many answered the call. We speak to people on the digital frontline

Kali learned how to use technology by playing with his grandfather’s phone. Now, the Swiss teenager is trying to paralyse the digital presence of the Russian government and the Belarussian railway.

Kali – and many others who contributed to this article – declined to share his real name because some of the action he is taking is illegal and because he fears Russian retaliation. He is one of about 300,000 people who have signed up to a group on the chat app Telegram called “IT Army of Ukraine”, through which participants are assigned tasks designed to take the fight to Vladimir Putin. In so doing, they are trying to level the playing field between one of the world’s superpowers and Ukraine as it faces bombardment and invasion.

The sprawling hacker army has been successful in disrupting Russian web services, according to NetBlocks, a company that monitors global internet connectivity. It says the availability of the websites of the Kremlin and the Duma – Russia’s lower house of parliament – has been “intermittent” since the invasion started. The sites for state-owned media services, several banks and the energy giant Gazprom have also been targeted.

“The crowdsourced attacks have been successful in disrupting Russian government and state-backed media websites,” says Alp Toker, the director of NetBlocks. He adds that Russia has attempted to mitigate the attacks and deter hackers by filtering access to certain websites, which has caused further disruption.

Almost 89,000 people have offered homes to Ukrainian refugees in the first hours of a government scheme that allows families and individuals to bring them to the UK.

The website for registering interest in the scheme crashed for a short while because of the numbers offering homes. By 9am on Tuesday, 88,712 had joined the scheme. The Foreign Office minister, James Cleverly, said “10,000 people every hour” were signing up.

A spokesperson said the Homes for Ukraine website “temporarily stalled” after it went live late on Monday afternoon, owing to the “enormous generosity of the British public”. He said the total number of offers was continuing to rise, with offers doubling within hours.

Republican Group Burns Trump Supporters In Mock PSA To Air On Fox News

Republican Group Burns Trump Supporters In Mock PSA To Air On Fox News
The spot warning about "Partisan Derangement Syndrome" is set to air on Trump's favorite show.

A Republican group is running an ad on Fox News that calls out members of the GOP who recognize the danger of Donald Trump but plan to vote for him if he’s the party’s nominee in 2024.

The spot from the Republican Accountability Project is meant to resemble the old ASPCA ads featuring singer Sarah McLachlan. Except instead of a plea to help animals escape abusive environments, this one’s a mock PSA for Republicans suffering from “Partisan Derangement Syndrome” who are “too far gone” to be saved:
https://twitter.com/i/status/1503515016426921984
The ad is set to run nationally on “Fox & Friends” next week ― reportedly one of Trump’s favorite shows.

“This ad shows the ridiculous lengths these Republicans will go to try to remain in Trump’s good graces,” Sarah Longwell, the organization’s executive director, said in a news release. “They know Trump’s lies about the 2020 election and actions on January 6 were wrong, but they lack the courage to take a stand and say they won’t support him.”

The Republican Accountability Project, a group of “never Trump” conservatives, has been calling out members of the GOP who enabled the former president, especially during and after the Jan. 6 assault on the U.S. Capitol that was carried out by his supporters. The group has taken out ads against House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), Rep. Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.) and others, and has vowed to support candidates who challenge Trump’s enablers in the primaries.

Madison Cawthorn Claims Pelosi Has a Drinking Problem
March 14, 2022 at 3:30 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard

Rep. Madison Cawthorn (R-NC) claimed that Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) — who doesn’t drink — has a drinking problem.

Said Cawthorn: “Rules for thee but not for me I guess is Nancy Pelosi’s, that’s Nancy Pelosi’s campaign slogan. I’ll tell you I have to work with her every single day so please do pray for me. The theories of alcoholism are very true and it’s very sad.”

Are We Avoiding Or Ensuring World III By Not Fighting Side by Side with Ukrainians?

Opinion: Are We Avoiding Or Ensuring World III By Not Fighting Side by Side with Ukrainians?

snip//

Pundits and politicians express this fear of triggering World War III, but we also have to ask what the world order will look like if Putin occupies Ukraine and even manages to some extent to subdue or control it.

Simply watching Russian violently invade Ukraine creates and certainly legitimates a world order characterized constant war and brutality in which larger nations, by virtue of force and whim, can simply exert their military might and lay claim to the territories of sovereign nations, especially if those nations are not part of larger alliances by prior agreements such as the North Atlantic Treaty.

I’m not sure what the pundits mean by World War III. It seems to me, though, that if a coalition of many NATO nations intervened to nip Putin’s barbaric criminal military campaign in the bud and weaken his military capacity, democratic nations on the globe might just be taking a big step to stop World War III, or at least to forestall the development of a world order characterized by constant and effectively legitimated war in which sovereignty, especially democratic sovereignty, had no authority or standing.

Let me be clear about the point I’m making. I’m not just saying fighting alongside Ukrainian soldiers is the moral thing to do. I’m saying it’s the smart political move to defend democracy globally and domestically and to create a modicum of geopolitical stability. And let me also be clear that I’m not talking about the United States, with its own tainted history of doing damage around the globe in the name of “democracy,” deciding on its own to police the world. I’m talking about a coalition of democratic nations standing up for the right of other sovereign nations to be self-determining.

Watch CNN's Dana Bash Stop Rob Portman's Keystone XL Lie Dead In Its Tracks

Watch CNN’s Dana Bash Stop Rob Portman’s Keystone XL Lie Dead In Its Tracks

Sen. Rob Portman tried to say that Keystone XL would make up for the Russian oil the US is not importing, but CNN’s Dana Bash gave him the facts.

Video @ link:

Sen. Portman said on CNN’s State Of The Union,
“When the president was elected, he said we’re going to cut off Keystone which is North American energy which is what we’re talking about. That was over 800,000 barrels per day, more than the Russian oil which was 600,000 barrels a day. Second, he issued an executive order stopping exploration on public lands and water. Finally, he’s rewriting this legislation that is now a regulation that has to do with permitting called waters of the United States. All of this is leading to less North American energy production. Specific policy decisions have been made.”

Bash responded:
Senator, a couple of things. On Keystone, I have not seen any report that it would have even been done in time to affect the crisis that’s happening now. It wouldn’t have been done until at least next year. On the public lands you’re talking about, that might be true, that he stopped production on public lands, but the administration has given more permits for drilling on private lands.

In fact, I have a comment from Secretary Granholm saying take advantage of the leases you have, hire workers, get your rig up. Isn’t it true that this is really just because of the pandemic and all of the economic woes and the implications from the pandemic that we’re seeing now and then, of course, exacerbated by Russia?

Portman then shifted gears to the false claim that Biden wants to cut domestic energy production.

Domestic energy production has grown under Biden, but this is a fact that Republicans deny because it doesn’t fit the story that they attempting to sell.

The GOP plan would benefit the oil companies, not the American people.

The truth is that the Republican solution isn’t a solution at all, because the United States does not own the oil in its own ground. The oil is the property of the oil companies once it is extracted. The United States, without legislative changes, can’t tell the oil companies to keep the oil in the US.

Increased US production would add to the supply in the global market, but it would not ease the crisis at home.

Keystone XL is a pipeline, not an oilfield, and it does nothing to increase the domestic supply of oil.

Sen. Portman was lying, and Dana Bash caught him.

Toxic Putin is going for bust. The west must stop him before this contagion spreads

Toxic Putin is going for bust. The west must stop him before this contagion spreads
Simon Tisdall
Analysis: if we do not refuse to be blackmailed and step in to stop Russia, Ukraine will only be the start
Sun 13 Mar 2022 04.00 EDT

Politically speaking, Vladimir Putin is a dead man walking. As dictators always do, he has fatally over-reached. Bunker-bound and bonkers, there’s no way back into the world for him. At home, too, he looks increasingly isolated.

But, militarily speaking, he’s not giving up. In Ukraine, the toxic president is going for bust. The worrying question: what will he do next?

Insofar as Putin still has a plan, it is to bomb and batter the Ukrainian people into submission, by whatever means necessary, as quickly as possible. If that requires using chemical weapons, such as chlorine gas, as in Syria, who can doubt he will do so. Last week’s Mariupol maternity hospital war crime was a harbinger of worse, perhaps far worse, to come.

Diplomats and analysts believe that, despite Ukraine’s unexpectedly effective resistance, Russia’s grip on the country is inexorably tightening. Vitali Klitschko, mayor of Kyiv, says the capital only has sufficient supplies for one or two weeks if attacked. Half the population has fled. If the allied powers sincerely want Ukraine to survive, time is running out.

Florida Lt Gov Goes Full Facist On Disney For Supporting LGBTQ+ Kids
Florida's GOP will not stand for dissent! Goebbels would be proud.
By John Amato — March 12, 2022
Video @ link~

Disney has paused all political donations in Florida after the state approved a viciously homophobic bill that uses teachers and schools to attack the LGBTQ+ community, using children as its cudgel.

snip//

Nunez attacked companies critical of the "Don't Say Gay" bill as being run by "feckless CEOs of these 'woke' corporations....They will criticize our legislation. They will try to bully us like the NCAA did, like Disney's doing."

That's when her inner fascist took over.

"How dare they! They have no right to criticize legislation by duly elected legislators that are passing common sense legislation to criticize and to threaten," Nunez said.

In America, people have a right to redress their government, but apparently in Florida you have no rights at all to even speak out or comment on disagreements with the ruling body. If a person, a group, or a company has a differing opinion from Gov. DeSantis and his administration, you either go along or shut up. Otherwise, they will seek vengeance against you.

"Gov. DeSantis and I won't stand for it. We're proud and in the free state of Florida we put parents and their rights first." Nunes whined.

Does Lt. Gov. Nunez not have faintest clue what's in the Constitution or the Bill of Rights?

This is the new game Republicans are playing to rile up the religious right/former soccer mom voting block, ie: parents of young children. Get them outraged over a nonexistent "indoctrination," so they will hate any Democratic initiative, politician, or public school teacher.

They create outrage over something that is not even happening,
like when they lied about CRT being taught in elementary school. Now they're claiming teachers groom first-graders to change their sexual identity as an excuse to pass creepy legislation to outlaw this nonexistent behavior, and then claim it's just a common sense measure that protects the innocence of children and supports parental rights.

Goebbels would be proud.
