Texas court to decide if homeschoolers can wait for the Rapture instead of teaching their kids

The all-Republican Texas Supreme Court will decide whether homeschooling families must teach educational basics to their children or be allowed to wait for the second coming of Jesus Christ.

An appeals court ruled against Michael and Laura McIntyre last year, saying the Christian couple was not exempt from state education regulations.

.........

Texas does not require home-school families to register with state or local educational officials, and they also aren’t required to teach state-approved curriculums or give standardized tests.

But problems arose when the family’s eldest daughter, then 17 years old, ran away from home in 2006 and enrolled at a public high school — where administrators placed her in ninth grade because they weren’t sure she could handle higher-level coursework.

U.S. House speaker in a fog over cigarette stench in new office

U.S. House speaker in a fog over cigarette stench in new office
By Will Dunham, November 1, 2015

Wisconsin Republican Paul Ryan can add one more burning issue to his agenda as the new speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives: how to get rid of the stench of cigarette smoke.

Ryan said on Sunday he has been trying to come up with ways to remove the smell of cigarettes from the House speaker's office that he took over on Thursday after he replaced the retiring John Boehner, a heavy smoker.

Asked if he is going to be able to get the smell of smoke out of the place, the fitness-conscious congressman said, "That's a really good question. And we've been talking about that."

"They have these ozone machines, apparently, that you can detoxify the environment. But I'm going to have to work on the carpeting in here," Ryan told the NBC program "Meet the Press."

That Was NOT God, Mr. Boehner

Boehner: God told him Paul Ryan should run for House speaker

On CNN's "State of the Union" Sunday Boehner said he invoked God to persuade his fellow Catholic from refusing to run for speaker to agreeing to do so.

Boehner says he told Ryan: "'This isn't about what you want to do. It's about what God wants you to do. And God has told me, he wants you to" run for speaker.

Noam Chomsky: Bernie Sander's Campaign Is Important & Impressive-He's doing good & Courageous things

if you go about 24 minutes into it (near the very end)Noam speaks bluntly about the Bernie Sanders campaign. It was quite refreshing (and encouraging, for me) to hear him call it "important and impressive... he is doing good and courageous things." I honestly can't remember Chomsky ever saying that about a candidate for president, who was part of one of the major political parties. But he does qualify the praise with a major caveat: If the campaign just runs its course and Sanders doesn't win, unless the campaign is established as an ongoing organized movement, everything will be for naught, and the opportunity wasted.

Carly Fiorina Admits She Lied About "92%": "I misspoke on that particular fact."

Republican presidential candidate Carly Fiorina acknowledged that she was incorrect during last week’s primary debate when she claimed “92 percent of the jobs lost during [President] Barack Obama’s first term belonged to women.”

After the debate, fact checkers pointed out Fiorina had recycled the statistic from former Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, who first made the claim in the 2012 election. It rated “Mostly False” by Politifact four years ago.

"I misspoke on that particular fact," Fiorina said on ABC’s “This Week.”

Fiorina then criticized the “liberal media” for picking apart the statistic rather than her broader argument, which was that liberal polices are bad for women economically.
