kpete's JournalReport: Papal resignation linked to investigation into ‘blackmailed gay clergy’
Popes staff decline to confirm or deny La Repubblica claims linking Vatileaks affair and discovery of blackmailed gay clergy
A potentially explosive report has linked the resignation of Pope Benedict XVI to the discovery of a network of gay prelates in the Vatican, some of whom the report said were being blackmailed by outsiders.
The popes spokesman declined to confirm or deny the report, which was carried by the Italian daily newspaper La Repubblica.
The paper said the pope had taken the decision on 17 December that he was going to resign the day he received a dossier compiled by three cardinals delegated to look into the so-called Vatileaks affair.

McConnell Can’t Tell Parody from Reality
Open Thread: McConnell Cant Tell Parody from Reality
By Anne Laurie February 22nd, 2013
Possibly because the entire Republican party has become a parody. From Spencer Ackerman at Wired:
Unless you are a senior member of the United States Senate.
On November 14, 2012, Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) wrote to Elizabeth King, the Pentagons congressional liaison, with a an unusually credulous query. I am writing on behalf of a constituent who has contacted me regarding Guantanamo Bay prisoners receiving Post 9/11 GI Bill benefits, McConnell wrote in a letter acquired by Danger Room. I would appreciate your review and response to my constituents concerns.

Explosive Bloomberg Editorial: Bank Profits are "almost entirely" Taxpayer Money
So what if we told you that, by our calculations, the largest U.S. banks arent really profitable at all? What if the billions of dollars they allegedly earn for their shareholders were almost entirely a gift from U.S. taxpayers?
Small as it might sound, 0.8 percentage point makes a big difference. Multiplied by the total liabilities of the 10 largest U.S. banks by assets, it amounts to a taxpayer subsidy of $83 billion a year. To put the figure in perspective, its tantamount to the government giving the banks about 3 cents of every tax dollar collected.
So three cents out of every tax dollar the government collects from you is pocketed by the 1%.

Black Nebraska lawmaker shames Republicans: Jesus ‘looked more like me than you all’
........................................
Sen. Ernie Chambers (I) shut down the legislative process for hours on Wednesday with his filibuster of Christensens Legislative Bill 52, which allows inmates at the McCook Work Ethic Camp to provide labor for any charitable, fraternal, or nonprofit corporation.
During his hours-long filibuster, Chambers blasted former Republican Lt. Gov. Rick Sheehy, who recently resigned after a paper revealed that he had made thousands of phone calls to women who were not his wife. Chambers was also critical of the Nebraska attorney general because he let former Sen. Brenda Council (D) off with a misdemeanor after she gambled more than $63,000 in campaign funds at casinos.
Sheehy and Council commit crimes but arent charged, Chambers said, noting that some scruffy person would not be so lucky, according to the Nebraska Watchdog.
Why shouldnt Sheehy be sentenced to do some free labor? he wondered. It would teach him good work habits, and it would let him know that crime of any kind doesnt pay.

Ted Nugent KNOWS All:"Blacks Are Only Ones Who Don't Realize Democrats Are Destroying Black America"
Barack Obama, the guy who received roughly 93 percent of black American votes, is the clear and present engineer of the destruction of black America.
It's not all the president's fault, but the economic and social policies he endorses are destroying what is left of a once proud and strong black America.
[...]
The truth is that the Democratic Party has been the engineer of the destruction of black Americans, and everyone knows it except the very people who need to know it the most - black Americans.
The turbo-destruction will continue for black Americans until they realize that dirty Democrat politicians are their true enemy, not their salvation. Fortunately, some are beginning to embrace this self-evident truth.

Rupert Murdoch Tweets Opposition To Keystone XL: It Brings Lots of Heavy, Dirty Oil Across Country
By Rebecca Leber on Feb 21, 2013 at 10:37 am
Over the weekend, 35,000 Forward On Climate protesters called on President Obama to reject the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline. They apparently had one surprising ally: News Corp. owner Rupert Murdoch.
In a series of tweets Friday, Murdoch questioned if the Keystone XL project is worth the risk:
Is Keystone Pipeline really good idea? Bringing lots of heavy, dirty oil across country, when fracked , cheaper, cleaner energy available
11:13 PM - 15 Feb 13
Keystone Pipeline not needed for energy independence. Many opinions, let's discuss. And let's stop wasting money on ridiculous windmills.

Laura Bush wants off gay marriage ad
Former first lady Laura Bush is asking to be removed from a bipartisan list of backers of same-sex marriage, according to a report.
Bush spokeswoman Ann McDonald told the Dallas Morning News on Wednesday that the First Lady did not approve of her inclusion in this advertisement nor is she associated with the group that made the ad in any way.
When she became aware of the advertisement last night, we requested that the group remove her from it, MacDonald told the paper.
Bush is featured along with two members of her husbands Cabinet former secretary of state Colin Powell and former vice president Dick Cheney as Republicans who support same-sex marriage.
