Financier Philip Bilden Withdraws From SECNAV Nomination

Financier Philip Bilden has withdrawn himself from consideration to be the next Secretary of the Navy, several sources confirmed to USNI News on Sunday.

Sources in the White House and the Navy told USNI News that Bilden’s extensive financial holdings, much of which he earned while living in Hong Kong, would likely not meet the Office of Government Ethics standards to serve in the position.

The White House is scheduled to make the announcement this evening.

Bilden was formally nominated as Navy Secretary on Jan. 25 after back-and-forth reports in the media as to whether he or former congressman Randy Forbes would get the job. The White House called Bilden “a highly successful business leader, former Military Intelligence officer, and Naval War College cybersecurity leader [who] will bring strategic leadership, investment discipline, and Asia Pacific regional and cyber expertise to the Department of the Navy” in its statement announcing Bilden’s selection.

"I'm not whining, I'm fighting back against the destruction I see happening around me."

"You know what I love? People who tell me "I put up with 8 years of
Obama, so you need to stop whining about Trump". Yeah, here's the thing,
you bitched and lied about Obama while he was pulling our economy back
from the brink, and saving jobs, and trying to make sure everyone could
pay for healthcare, and chasing the actual bad guy terrorists, and
protecting civil rights so everyone could live with dignity, among many
other things. While you tried to convince people that he wasn't born in
this country, he worked for everyone. While you claimed he was a secret
Muslim (and what the hell is that about anyway), he worked for everyone.
While you called him and his wife and children names, he worked for
everyone. He did it with grace, intelligence, and respect for everyone.
So, don't think I'm going to shut up because your guy won the election.
This isn't a game, this is people's lives. I'm not whining, I'm fighting
back against the destruction I see happening around me."

Wearing pussy hats. Just pointless bourgeois liberal feel-good politics.Harumph.

While Hansen’s campaign was focused on local issues, she saw a huge swell of support after nationwide Women’s March protests on Jan. 21. Protesters, many of them out in the streets for the first time, have been turning their energy toward local and state politics. The first major election since the uprising was Delaware’s.

"We believe there is no best country, best gender, best religion or best color."

Oscar-Nominated Syrian Cinematographer Barred From Entering U.S. for Awards

On Friday, Farhadi joined his fellow contenders for the Best Foreign Language Film award in issuing a statement decrying the “climate of fanaticism and nationalism” in the United States and other countries. Regardless of who wins, the five filmmakers already preemptively dedicated their award:

Regardless of who wins the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film on Sunday, we refuse to think in terms of borders. We believe there is no best country, best gender, best religion or best color. We want this award to stand as a symbol of the unity between nations and the freedom of the arts.

Human rights are not something you have to apply for. They simply exist—for everybody. For this reason, we dedicate this award to all the people, artists, journalists and activists who are working to foster unity and understanding, and who uphold freedom of expression and human dignity—values whose protection is now more important than ever. By dedicating the Oscar to them, we wish to express to them our deep respect and solidarity.
