"Fuck him." Rupert Murdoch Made Decision to Call Arizona

Michael Wolff claims in his new book, Landslide, that Rupert Murdoch made the final decision for Fox News to call Arizona for Joe Biden during the 2020 presidential election, a move that infuriated Donald Trump, Insider reports.

When Lachlan Murdoch, the CEO of Fox Corporation, called his father on whether to make the early call, “his father, with signature grunt, assented,” and added, “Fuck him.”

Hillary Clinton: We are witnessing a concerted attempt to destabilize the democratic process

We are witnessing a concerted attempt to destabilize the democratic process and delegitimize our multi-racial democracy, carried out in full view of the American people.

...........

The emboldening of white supremacists and conspiracy theorists during Trump’s campaign and time in the White House along with the international movement against liberal democracy have exacerbated this perfect storm.

.................

Voting rights should not be controversial – and for the majority of Americans, they aren’t. Yet we have members of Congress who are wildly out of the mainstream, who vote to overturn the results of an election, and who use their powerful platforms to spread lies and disinformation. As a result, nearly two-thirds of Republicans now incorrectly believe President Biden was not legitimately elected. They point to debunked claims of voter fraud, discounting the votes of millions of Americans, including 87% of Black voters.

What happened on January 6th showed that these fanatical ideas can lead to real, even deadly harm. After the insurrection, I wrote about the failure of imagination that hindered our ability to prevent the violence in Washington. I quoted historian Taylor Branch, who asked in Isabel Wilkerson’s “Caste:” “If people were given the choice between democracy and whiteness, how many would choose whiteness?” The months that followed revealed the ugly truth of just how many elected officials in America would choose whiteness.

In this pivotal moment for our democracy, people in every corner of our country are rightfully asking: “What can we do?” The answer isn’t an easy one, because there is no one step that will solve this deep-seated problem. Passing laws like H.R. 1 (the For the People Act) and H.R. 4 (the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act) that make it easier to vote is an excellent start, but we can’t stop there. We need to call these attacks on voting what they are: part of a clear attempt to move away from a pluralistic, multi-racial democracy and toward white supremacist authoritarianism. We need to remain laser-focused on what’s at stake for democracy and people’s lives and refuse to allow Republicans to draw us into piecemeal fights over tactics and technicalities. Voters should have the ability – not just in principle, but in practice – to hold elected officials accountable in the voting booth. We should be doing everything we can to make it easier for eligible voters to cast their ballots.

When the people make their voices heard in an election, we should respect the results. These aren’t partisan statements; they’re attributes of a functioning democracy. Now is the time for anyone who cares about ours to stand up and fight for it using absolutely every tool in our toolbox: legislation, marching and protesting, speaking up, supporting people and groups advocating for a democracy that reflects the diversity of this country, and, yes, showing up to the polls at every election, not just the presidential ones. Democracies the world over have faced this challenge; how we respond will have a ripple effect around the globe.

Dump's "Evita Phase"

By Josh Marshall

There’s a high bar for nonsensical Trump statements that actually grab my attention. But he seems to be now moving into what I guess we might call his Evita phase. Who talks like this? Who has this kind of messiah complex and who has supporters who don’t laugh when they hear this kind of faux biblical melodrama?

Seeing the record crowds of over 45,000 people in Ohio and Florida, waiting for days, standing in the pouring rain, they come from near and far. All they want is HOPE for their Great Country again. Their arms are outstretched, they cry over the Rigged Election—and the RINOs have no idea what this movement is all about. In fact, they are perhaps our biggest problem. We will never save our Country or be great again unless Republicans get TOUGH and get SMART!

We’re clearly beyond mere “sir” stories to a quasi biblical figure, traveling the land to give solace to a desperate people.

Once again, WHY we CAN'T have nice things -

I can’t believe I have to share a planet with these people
?w=948

The driving motivation for many Republicans really seems to just be “If Dems say something is good, it’s actually bad.” Nothing beyond that. Just a politicial party pandering to the stupid and the vindictive

Email from Adam Schiff - worth sharing

7/6/21

Six months ago today, I was on the floor of the House of Representatives when we first got reports that a mob had surrounded the Capitol.

Many of us didn’t think much of it at the time. Instead, we were focusing on our work: certifying the election and pushing back against the abundance of false arguments propping up Trump’s Big Lie.

How wrong we were.

As the minutes passed, we realized it was serious. When we were told to get out the gas masks under our seats, we knew the situation was out of control. And when we were evacuated past the mob, we realized how close we came to catastrophe.

As we were being led by the Capitol Police out the back entrance, a gunshot rang out. Walking through the hallways under the building, one of my colleagues carried a wooden stake to protect himself. Our leaders were led to secret shelters. It was unlike anything I’d ever experienced.

It was the greatest domestic threat to our democracy since the Civil War. A group of violent insurrectionists trying to overthrow the election. And before Trump, I never would have believed something like this could happen in our nation. Not here. Not in America.

Since that day, too many in the country have tried to whitewash what happened. People have tried to excuse the violent mob, forget the white nationalists lurking in our hallways, and chalk it up as a normal tourist visit.

But we all saw the tape. The mob’s intent was clear — it was to overturn the election and overthrow a democratically elected government. It can never be allowed to happen again.

For months, Democrats have tried to get Republicans to do the right thing. To investigate how our democracy became so imperiled and to set up a bipartisan commission. We agreed to all of their demands. They still said no.

That’s why just last week, Speaker Pelosi acted — appointing a select committee of both Democrats and Republicans to investigate what happened in the lead up to that tragic day, and what we can do to prevent it from ever happening again.

I was honored to receive a call from the Speaker asking me to serve. It’s a solemn responsibility, and I don’t take it lightly.

There are a lot of questions to answer: What signs were missed before the attack on our temple of democracy? Who planned the assault? What did elected leaders, including the former president, do to incite or defend against the insurrection? And what do we need to do to protect our nation, and democracy, in the future?

It’s unfortunate, but I know that attacks on the process of getting to the truth will come. And they have already begun. Many Republicans in Congress are hellbent on forgiving and forgetting the events of that infamous day. They will try to distract their base. Muddle the truth. And try to paint this as a political commission, rather than what it really is – a committee to protect our democracy.

Some will do all they can to block this critical work.

We can’t let them. We won’t let them. This is an investigation to find out the full truth. The fight to protect and uphold our democracy is far too important to let anyone stop us.

Thanks for always having my back. I know that the next few months won’t be easy, but anything worth doing never is. Will keep you posted and thanks again.

Talk soon.
