Trump appeals to black voters in attempt to offset dismal polling

Trump said he was asking for “the vote of every African American citizen struggling in our country today who wants a different future”.

“It is time for our society to address some honest and very difficult truths,” he said.
“The Democratic party has failed and betrayed the African American community.”

Trump started his speech seemingly trying to appeal to African Americans, who it would seem were not at the rally.

(hmmmmm?) It Looks Like the NSA Was Hacked. Edward Snowden Thinks It Was Russia.

In what is either an incredibly elaborate hoax or a historic public breach of national security, hackers claim to have gained access to a set of files from a hacking group that is thought to be an offshoot of the National Security Agency.

If the hack is real, experts believe a foreign government must have helped the group in order for it to have exploited NSA resources in this way. On Tuesday, Edward Snowden speculated on Twitter that the Russians were responsible for the attack—and that it was connected to speculation about the country’s involvement with the recent breach and leak of Democratic National Committee emails.

Russia is widely believed to have been behind the July release of hacked DNC emails, and last week it was reported that the top lawmakers in the country had been briefed a year ago that Russia had infiltrated the DNC’s servers.

NBC boss Bob Greenblatt: Donald Trump is “toxic,” “pompous” and “demented.”

NBC boss Bob Greenblatt took to Facebook to blast presidential nominee and former “Celebrity Apprentice” host Donald Trump as “toxic,” “pompous” and “demented.”

“The sad state of affairs thanks to a pompous businessman turned reality TV star (whose show consistently ran LAST in its time period, by the way) who thinks speaking his mind is refreshing. It’s actually corrosive and toxic because his ‘mind’ is so demented; and his effect will unfortunately linger long after he’s been told to get off the stage,

Greenblatt posted on his personal Facebook account this week.

Greenblatt’s Facebook post has since been deleted. A source tells Variety the post was in response to Nicholas Kristof’s New York Times op-ed, titled, “Donald Trump Is Making America Meaner.”

"Cool Fascismo"

Donald Trump Is Not Going to Like How He Looks on the New Cover of Adbusters
?v=1470332597
Hopefully
By Simon Dumenco. Published on August 15, 2016.

The latest issue of Adbusters hits newsstands in the U.S. on Tuesday and its coverboy is a man who needs no introduction. The six-times-a-year title, which is published by the Adbusters Media Foundation, a 27-year-old Vancouver-based nonprofit group that was behind the Occupy Wall Street protests, presents The Orange One in stark black and white and makes creative use of the magazine's actual Universal Product Code.

The coverline, "Cool Fascismo," is also the theme of the issue, which the magazine's editors describe thusly:

Adbusters Issue #127 takes on the rise of global fascism, exposing the symptoms of a sick and outdated system. Everywhere you look, fascist tendencies are creeping into view as each day our world falls further and further into chaos. Have we forgotten the lessons of the past? Will we bury our heads into the comforts of virtual reality while egomaniacs capture the imagination of the masses? Cool Fascismo is an unprecedented exploration into a world where a culture of cool becomes a culture of fear.

"There are people in Utah who marry younger women over & over-We call them polygamists-not president

FIX: Most people ascribe Trump’s seeming struggles in the state to skepticism toward him from the Mormon community. Is that right? Or is there more happening?

Gehrke: That is a huge part of it. While Mormons make up about 60 percent of the state’s overall population, they account for about 85 percent of the Republican voters, and Pew has found that Mormons are the most reliably Republican voting bloc in the country — even more so than evangelicals. So you really can’t separate Trump’s “tremendous problem” with Utah Republicans with his “tremendous problem” with Utah Mormons.

It boils down to a style and substance that Mormons don’t like. Nobody wins in Utah by being in full-tilt attack mode. His immigration policy is a problem for members of a faith who serve two-year missions, many overseas, proselytizing for their church and don’t see immigrants generally as rapists and job-stealers. Trump’s approach to Muslims has been cited as a problem for a faith that was chased out of one state after another and still has a culture steeped in that refugee mentality. Church leaders took the unusual step of issuing a statement embracing religious pluralism after Trump’s Muslim comments.

And I have heard from many people that his personal conduct — the third marriage and brash nature, along with some doubts about where he is on abortion issues — doesn’t sit well with social conservatives. There are people in Utah who marry younger women over and over. We call them polygamists, not presidents.

Federal judge declares ‘black lives matter’ during hearing over Seattle police reform

Originally published August 15, 2016 at 8:41 pm Updated August 16, 2016 at 9:34 am

“The court and the citizens of Seattle will not be held hostage for increased payments and benefits ... ,” U.S. District Judge James Robart said of contract talks, adding, “I’m sure the entire city of Seattle would march behind me.”

U.S. District Judge James Robart, pointedly reacting to the Seattle police union’s rejection of a tentative contract, said Monday he would not let the powerful labor group hold the city “hostage” by linking wages to constitutional policing.

“To hide behind a collective- bargaining agreement is not going to work,” Robart said during a dramatic court hearing he opened by laying out a path for police-accountability reform and closed with an emotional declaration that “black lives matter.”

Robart, who is presiding over a 2012 consent decree requiring the city to adopt reforms to address Department of Justice allegations of excessive force and biased policing, called for major changes that would directly affect the union’s membership: streamlined appeals of officer discipline and internal investigations conducted by civilians rather than sworn officers.

Kevin Stuckey, who recently became president of the Seattle Police Officers’ Guild (SPOG) in a power shake-up and listened in court to the judge’s blistering remarks, said the union is prepared to sit down with the city and reach a deal.

“The judge has given us our marching orders,” Stuckey said, insisting the union’s vote this summer to reject the deal was not tied to money but to the leak of confidential contract details to The Stranger newspaper.
