"What kind of psychopath poses with an infant whose parents were killed"

It is the sort of photo politicians have long been known to favour: adorable baby, thumbs up, big smiles.

Few, however, would surely pose this way in such grave circumstances.

Donald Trump has sparked global revulsion after being photographed grinning with a two-month-old child who was made an orphan during Saturday’s mass shooting in El Paso which left 22 people dead.

The infant’s adopted parents, Andre and Jordan Anchondo, were both killed in the supermarket massacre, while he himself suffered broken bones when Ms Anchondo fell on the child to shield him from further bullets.

But when the baby, called Paul, was brought to the US president at the University Medical Center of El Paso, the 73-year-old appeared untouched by the child’s tragic plight. Both he and first lady Melania smiled for cameras, while the commander-in-chief also threw in a thumbs up.

For what it’s worth, the baby’s uncle told NPR that he supports Trump, that the baby’s father did too, and that he (the uncle) looked forward to meeting Trump when he visited. The interview is worth a listen. (link: https://www.npr.org/2019/08/07/748972066/family-of-el-paso-victims-speaks-out) npr.org/2019/08/07/748…

---AND----

In Dayton, Trump had to look around for someone appropriate for the photo-op even if they weren’t involved in the mass shooting.

So, if this is the same child, she is a gunshot victim, but, she would not be one of the victims of the deadly mass shooting that took place in the Oregon Historic District that Trump intended to visit and comfort.

But, the image itself served Trump's campaign PR purpose.

Rep Chris Stewart (UT): Potus hasn't shot anyone -Man at Town Hall Responds: Neither Did Manson

The Salt Lake Tribune ✔ @sltrib

The president of the United States, as far as I know, hasn’t shot anyone,” Rep. Chris Stewart said at a town hall Wednesday night.

One man yelled in response that “Charles Manson never shot anyone either.”

North Salt Lake • Rep. Chris Stewart’s town hall meeting Wednesday evening quickly turned wild when — after three recent mass shootings — the first question asked how the government can better keep people safe amid such threats.

....................

Stewart tried to calm the crowd by saying, “Could we all agree that racism is wrong and should be condemned?” Many said yes. “Could we all agree that violence regardless of the reason should always be condemned?”

Someone yelled that should especially be the case with the president, who seems instead to incite it.

“The president of the United States, as far as I know, hasn’t shot anyone,” Stewart said. One man yelled in response that “Charles Manson never shot anyone either” as he led a mass-murdering gang.
