As Coulter started to discuss her book, Goldberg grew seemingly frustrated.
"What are you talking about?" she demanded. Coulter attempted to continue, but Goldberg cut her off.
"Oh you know what, hold up Ms. Coulter, please stop. Please stop," Goldberg said. "If you are going to talk about race, at least, at least, know what you're talking about."
"What don't I know?" Coulter asked.
"Well tell me what you know about being black," Goldberg said. "Your facts are a little shaky. I mean, you're saying that because liberals have abandoned black people now—what? I don't get it. I don't understand."

BLITZER: "...You don't hear them complaining about the Fox News polls."
On Thursday's "CNN Newsroom," Blitzer said it was very "convenient" for Republicans and people on Fox News to demean the polls. But, he added, there was a big flaw in their arguments.
"What they don't say is that the Fox News polls are showing almost exactly the same thing," Blitzer said, reeling off a string of numbers. "...You don't hear them complaining about the Fox News polls. They're complaining about the others. So there's an imbalance there."

The Republican party is demented.
Having examined, at some length, the process by which Romney distanced himself from his one great achievement in elected office — and, by extension, from all the good he'd done for thousands of people and their health insurance — I seem to have gotten backwards the political liabilities this held for Romney in facing a national Republican electorate gone, in the immortal phrase of the late George V. Higgins, as soft as church music. I thought his fashioning of a health-care reform program in Massachusetts, and its popular success, would be a problem on theoretical grounds. I was wrong. It turns out the problem Republicans have with the program is not the ideological big-government aspect of it. The problem they have with it is the good it turned out to do for people. The problem with it is that it made people's lives a little easier. The problem is that cruelty has become an ideology in itself, and it is an implacable one.
"The thing Romney needs to do to beat Obama is show up in this debate and not have another empathy comment. Those comments are really hurting him far more than any 47% comments," said Ryan Rhodes, a tea party activist from Iowa. "The government's not here for empathy, it's here for the law. If we use empathy for everything we want to do, that's how countries go bankrupt and bad policy is created."
The problem with the Romney campaign is not the alleged ideological incoherence of his political resume. The problem is that he's trying to appeal to a party full of moral monsters.

Slowly and reluctantly, Republicans who love and work for Romney are concluding that for all his gifts as a leader, businessman and role model, he’s just not a good political candidate in this era.

It kills his admirers to say it because they know him to be a far more generous and approachable man than people realize — far from the caricature of him being awkward or distant — and they feel certain he would be a very good president.

Nowhere was there a single Romney sign or bumper sticker.
As I went around town I noticed a huge difference from the 2008 election. There wasn’t a single sign for either Romney or Murdock. There were no bumper stickers. The town was covered with McCain signs last time. The one stalwart who had Obama signs last time has moved so there were none of his signs either.
Driving home to North Carolina I passed through the most conservative part of Indiana. I also went through Kentucky, West Virginia, Virginia, and into North Carolina. Nowhere was there a single Romney sign or bumper sticker. I saw one Ron Paul truck in Kentucky. I saw an Obama sign when I got to Winston Salem.
This makes me wonder if the Republicans are planning on sitting this one out like the Democrats did in 2010? Are Republicans disgusted with their candidate because he is either not tea party enough or because he isn’t human enough?
If the Republicans are going to sit this one out it is imperative that we do not. We need to get out the vote and make sure we give Obama a filibuster proof Senate and the House back. Let the Republicans sit on their hands this time. We need to GOTV.

With Obama’s lead in several swing states becoming insurmountable, the right has begun to panic—by denying reality altogether.
But no—now, the mere fact of poll-taking is “a subtle means of Republican voter suppression,” as Simon Maloy put it over at Media Matters. And the latest whine—this cupboard somehow never runs bare—is that conservatives don’t like taking polls. So said Scott Walker to Fox on Wednesday. Yes, of course! Because conservatives are people of action, busy people, who have neither the time (like the indolent 47 percenters) nor the inclination to accept phone calls from lamestream media pollsters. Honestly. Scott Walker can’t really believe this.
And finally, the last refuge of these scoundrels, bashing the librul media. Did you catch Rush Limbaugh’s pathetic rant on Tuesday after the famous blown interception call? Packer fans should just shake it off, he said, because the true aggrieved party is conservatives: “We’re lied about every day. The media gets it wrong on purpose against us every day. Now, I think it’s a good analogy.”
It’s a ridiculous analogy, and it’s not lies with which Limbaugh and Morris and their ilk are now coming face-to-face. It’s the truth. Americans like Barack Obama. They don’t like Mitt Romney. They really don’t like Paul Ryan. And they don’t want any part of the ideology of callousness and make-believe facts and pigheaded warmongering—and economic crisis and big deficits and all of that—that the Republicans are peddling. Of course these people will never come to terms with all that. But right now, boys, you’re running out of targets, and excuses.

Rat study sparks GM furore
Cancer claims put herbicide-resistant transgenic maize in the spotlight.
Europe has never been particularly fond of genetically modified (GM) foods, but a startling research paper published last week looks set to harden public and political opposition even further, despite a torrent of scepticism from scientists about the work.
The study1, published in the peer-reviewed journal Food and Chemical Toxicology, looked for adverse health effects in rats fed NK603 maize (corn), developed by biotech company Monsanto to resist the herbicide glyphosate and approved for animal and human consumption in the European Union, United States and other countries. It reported that the rats developed higher levels of cancers, had larger cancerous tumours and died earlier than controls. The researchers have not conclusively identified a mechanism for the effect.
The rats were monitored for two years (almost their whole lifespan), making this the first long-term study of maize containing these specific genes. About a dozen long-term studies of different GM crops have failed to find such stark health effects2. An earlier test of NK603 maize in rats in a 90-day feeding trial — the current regulatory norm — sponsored by Monsanto showed no adverse effects3.
The explosion of media coverage about the findings has energized opponents of GM food, especially in Europe. French Prime Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault said that, if the results are confirmed, the government will press for a Europe-wide ban on the maize. The European Commission has instructed the independent European Food Safety Agency (EFSA) in Parma, Italy, to assess the study.

Red States Outpace Blue States in Income Growth — Thanks to Food Stamps
Government programs are helping ease poverty in red states, despite the GOP's best efforts.

Americans love nothing more than a good Red-State-Vs.-Blue-State argument, especially during election time.
So a new story in USA Today , looking at the changes in income, state by state, since the beginning of the Great Recession, of course breaks down the results into “red,” “blue” and “swing” states. It declares that red states have seen incomes grow 4.6 percent since 2007, adjusted for inflation, while blue states have only seen incomes grow 0.5 percent. In swing states? A little more than the blue states, about 1.4 percent.
But here's the kicker: that income growth in those red states? It comes, at least in the South, in large part to government benefits payments, like the Supplementary Nutrition Assistance Program, formerly known as food stamps. You know, the ones that Republicans like Newt Gingrich attempt to use as a club to beat Obama and Democrats with. They go mainly to people living under or close to the poverty line, which means that income growth thanks to public benefits is the government making life more bearable for those hit hardest by the recession, not exactly economic growth caused by the “low taxes and business-friendly regulation” that the right-wing ALEC representative the article quotes claims. As the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities notes, “The record-setting SNAP participation levels are consistent with the extraordinarily deep and prolonged nature of the recession and the weak, lagging recovery.”
What does this actually tell us? Despite USA Today's attempts to make this data into another partisan political weapon, not much about the election. But mainstream political journalists like NBC's Chuck Todd fell for it anyway; Todd asked “Is this a stat Romney can work into his stump or too confusing?”
