Key NJ Legislators Looking at Christie Impeachment: Sources

Key members of the New Jersey Assembly have begun researching whether or not to bring articles of impeachment against Gov. Chris Christie, NBC 4 New York has learned.

This follows early testimony in the George Washington Bridge scandal trial, which some Assembly members believe shows the Republican governor had more knowledge of the lane closures in Fort Lee during and after that week in 2013 then he has led the public to believe.

One committee chairman who did not want to be named said "clearly obstruction of justice" would be an obvious charge against the governor.

The legislator told NBC 4 New York the chances are probably 50-50 that the assembly would pursue impeachment.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar: Trump is so scared that he wants us to dismantle the Constitution

Donald Trump’s xenophobic, paranoid nativist rhetoric was already alarming by now, a few weeks before the presidential election. But the way he and his campaign reacted after a bomb plot and explosion in New York City and New Jersey this past weekend represented an attempt to make a fearful retreat from core American values, like someone tossing children and the elderly off the lifeboat to have more food and water for himself and his cringing cronies.

snip

This year, we are in danger of retreating from building the America we’re all supposed to be proud of, one that protects all and offers equal opportunity to all. The fact that the fear that sends some of us scuttling away is “unreasoning” and “unjustified” makes us cowards. Cowards abandon principles at the first sign of danger and look for witches to burn — or foreigners to blame. The common wisdom is that we are at our most divisive time since the Civil War, divided by differences in starkly contrasting political beliefs. That’s not true. We aren’t divided by political ideology as much as split between those blindly hoping for a savior and those rationally selecting a leader.

Dalai Lama impersonate Donald Trump

The Dalai Lama's got jokes.

TV personality Piers Morgan asked the Dalai Lama what he thinks about Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump during an appearance Thursday on Good Morning Britain.

"I don't know," the Tibetan monk answered, adding that he never met Trump.

Then he did a hilarious impersonation of the real estate mogul. The Dalai Lama, 81, placed his hand over his head and mocked Trump's hair. And made a gesture to his mouth, saying "his mouth ... small."

Powerful Poem About Race Gets A Full Page In The New York Times

It’s a poem about protest, and the emotional and practical reasons protest becomes necessary. It’s also a poem about loving your country, but feeling as though you’re not truly a part of it.

It’s a poem that’s needed right now, which is why The New York Times dedicated an entire page to it in its print edition today.

A Trump campaign chair in Ohio says there was ‘no racism’ before Obama

Kathy Miller called the Black Lives Matter movement ‘a stupid waste of time’ and said low African American voter turnout could be due to ‘the way they’re raised’

Donald Trump’s campaign chair in a prominent Ohio county has claimed there was “no racism” during the 1960s and said black people who have not succeeded over the past half-century only have themselves to blame.

Kathy Miller, who is white and chair of the Republican nominee’s campaign in Mahoning County, made the remarks during a taped interview with the Guardian’s Anywhere but Washington series of election videos.

“If you’re black and you haven’t been successful in the last 50 years, it’s your own fault. You’ve had every opportunity, it was given to you,” she said.

“You’ve had the same schools everybody else went to. You had benefits to go to college that white kids didn’t have. You had all the advantages and didn’t take advantage of it. It’s not our fault, certainly.”

Miller also called the Black Lives Matter movement “a stupid waste of time” and said lower voter turnout among African Americans could be related to “the way they’re raised”.
