Trump 'looking forward' to testifying before Mueller under oath in Russia investigation http://bit.ly/2E7VTf0
http://www.oregonlive.com/today/index.ssf/2018/01/trump_looking_forward_to_testi.html
WASHINGTON -- President Donald Trump declared late Wednesday he's "looking forward" to being questioned -- under oath -- in the special counsel's probe of Russian election interference and possible Trump obstruction in the firing of the FBI director.
Trump said he would be willing to answer questions under oath in the interview, which special counsel Robert Mueller has been seeking but which White house officials had not previously said the president would grant.
"I'm looking forward to it, actually," Trump said when asked by reporters at the White House. Ad for timing, he said, "I guess they're talking about two or three weeks, but I'd love to do it."
He said, as he has repeatedly, that "there's no collusion whatsoever" with the Russians, and he added, "There's no obstruction whatsoever."

I will be so glad when this temporary insanity is over

With all due respect to this guy, when in Minneapolis in early February, do you NOT dress warmly if outside for several hours ? I guess if you're a native Minnesotan/Canadian/Inuit, you can possibly disregard warm clothes.

The always outspoken Linus Torvalds, best known for his continuing work on the innermost code of Linux systems, has harsh words to say and accusations to level against Intel. His evaluation of Intels latest proposed fix for the Meltdown/Spectre issue: the patches are COMPLETE AND UTTER GARBAGE. As a potential line of inquiry, he suggests: Has anybody talked to them and told them they are f*cking insane? (asterisk his.)
These and other kind epithets are awarded by Torvalds in a public email chain between him and David Woodhouse, an engineer at Amazon in the U.K., regarding Intels solution as relating to the Linux kernel. The issue is (as far as I can tell as someone far out of their depth) a clumsy and, Torvalds argues, insane implementation of a fix that essentially does nothing while also doing a bunch of unnecessary things.
The fix needs to address Meltdown (which primarily affects Intel chips), but instead of just doing so across the board, it makes the whole fix something the user or administrator has to opt into at boot. Why even ask, if this is such a huge vulnerability? And why do it at such a low level when future CPUs will supposedly not require it, at which point the choice would be at best unnecessary and at worst misleading or lead to performance issues?
Meanwhile, a bunch of other things are added in the same patch that Torvalds points out are redundant with existing solutions, for instance adding protections against an exploit already mitigated by Google Project Zeros retpoline technique

Venlafaxine Withdrawal
If you stop taking venlafaxine suddenly, or reduce your dosage, withdrawal symptoms can occur, often within a matter of hours.
Venlafaxine withdrawal symptoms include:
Anxiety, confusion, or agitation
Lack of coordination or vertigo
Nausea, diarrhea, or vomiting
Sleep disorders or nightmares
Headache
Dry mouth
Fatigue
Brain zaps (electric-like shocks)
Many of these symptoms can cause severe disorientation, and are especially dangerous to people driving, operating machinery, or engaging in other risky tasks.
Talk to your doctor about any unusual side effects, and follow your doctor's instructions for tapering off or stopping your use of venlafaxine.
This new med better be f**********g worth this.

At a recent workshop I gave, a man raised his hand to tell me that his discussion partner had to talk him down off the cliff because he wasnt able to feel compassion during a compassion-inducing exercise I had just led everyone through. He wondered if, as a man, his capacity for compassion was limited.
This experience spoke to me of the tragedy in our society that labels men as unable to feel or connect to the same degree that women can. And that maturity in men means emotional stoicism, autonomy, and self-sufficiencya lonely existence, for sure, particularly as research time and again shows we all need human connection to thrive.
Yet scientists are discovering that what society says about mens (and boys) social and emotional abilities is simply not true, and that cultivating their natural capacity for emotional attunement and relationships is critical to their overall well-being. But we cant wait till theyre men to do sowe need to start when theyre young.
How boys develop emotionally and socially
Studies of infants have shown that neurologically, there isnt much difference between boys and girls capacity for empathy. Yet, according to neuroscientists, because girls are allowed to express their emotions, their ability to identify and understand both their own and others emotions cultivates their empathetic skills beyond those of boys.

Amazon Go is a go for the masses.
The retailers cashierless convenience store will open its doors to the public Monday, a debut that follows a nearly 14-month trial run open only to the Seattle companys employees.
The store requires customers to scan their smartphone on the way in, tracks them with cameras and other sensors as they browse, and, when they take an item off the shelf, adds it to a virtual cart. Groceries are charged to the customers Amazon account when they leave with their goods.
Beginning at 7 a.m. Monday, the store is open to anyone with the Amazon Go smartphone app and a linked Amazon account.

14 days without ANY anti-depressants. Holy moley, that partial sentence fills me with a bit of dread. Feeling more raw and more emotional than usual.
Thank god I have a wonderful therapist and a wonderful psychiatrist (two different people). I feel badly for those who are not so fortunate
I'll try not to get too far off the beam in here, but wanted to give others a heads up that, um, I won't be in my usual place.
ETA: Before this whole giant debate of medication versus no medication gets fired up in here, I am going on another medication, Selegiline. I've talked about it before in here. I am NOT just washing out to be medication-free. Far from it.
You're welcome to take the entire debate of medication versus no medication to General Discussion, but I will NOT discuss it here. Thank you.
