By late afternoon Monday, the black-and-red No Trespassing sign hanging on Doria Raglands front gate was probably feeling more like a plea than an order.
On Sunday, Ragland had been living her life in Los Angeles as a social worker. The following day, her View Park-Windsor Hills home was swarming with reporters. A security guard in a Chevrolet truck sat outside, handing out a note adorned with the royal familys Kensington Palace letterhead.
The request? Privacy.
On Monday, Ragland became mother to the now-fiancee of Britains Prince Harry. After dating for the last 1 ½ years, the couple got engaged this month in London.

Of course I'm assuming the weather gauge is not messed up.
67.02 °N... definitely in the Arctic

yep, madness.
eta2: On the much more normal side, Alert Nunavut Canada is -26F.

I dunno, I don't feel too sympathetic to Mr. Pai, but I wouldn't do the pizzas thing to him, etc.
Net neutrality nonsense: Can we, please, just not all lose our minds?
(disclaimer: I am not endorsing this article, just posting for comments)
https://www.theregister.co.uk/2017/11/28/its_back_net_neutrality_nonsense_roundup/
And if all that wasn't ridiculous enough, FCC chair Ajit Pai is being personally targeted in the real world by people who have lost their minds to such an alarming degree that they are scribbling messages on cardboard naming his kids and taping them onto lampposts near his home.
"Is this really the world you want [kid's name] and [kid's name] to inherit?" one demented notice reads. "How will they ever look you in the eye again?"
Another reads, no lie: "Dad murdered democracy in cold blood."
According to one report, Pai's home was also inundated with pizzas over the weekend, with a new one arriving every 30 minutes. A harmless prank or a sign that people have lost their minds?

I want to thank everyone for being so helpful and kind here
I've been on the net for 21 years, and a few forums are downright nasty to "noobs" (people not well-versed in computers). When I became host of this place, I decided THIS forum would not tolerate people being nasty to those less well-versed.
You guys rock. Please keep up the good work, and I'll help when I can.

(never heard of this blog before, but we can discuss it here. It's Gizmodo Media Group)
The New York Times published a profile over the weekend of an Ohio man named Tony Hovater, a co-founder of the white supremacist Traditionalist Worker Party. The piece, by reporter Richard Fausset, was meant to say something profound about the banality of evilThis man shops for groceries! He has a Twin Peaks tattoo! He has both a wife and cats!but it came across instead as an exercise in making evil sound banal.
In one of two follow-up pieces the Times ran to try to explain the story, the papers national editor, Marc Lacey, wrote, We recognize that people can disagree on how best to tell a disagreeable story. What we think is indisputable, though, is the need to shed more light, not less, on the most extreme corners of American life and the people who inhabit them.
Yet Fausset spent so much time staring at Hovater eating a turkey sandwich, he didnt get around to shining much light on the particular corner his subject occupies. The Times managed to miss or gloss over a whole batch of facts and questions that might have lent both context and color to what purported to be a definitive profile of a white nationalist foot soldier. Here are a few of them:
Hes not really named Tony Hovater.

Trump Honored Native American Code Talkers at the White House. What Could Go Wrong?
http://www.theroot.com/trump-honored-native-american-code-talkers-at-the-white-1820776590I want to build a wall around the White House that doesnt allow anyone of color inside, because once inside, we cant keep you safe. There is a good chance that you are going to be subjected to racist jokes from an old man who cant find his penis, nor hold it, because he has really tiny hands.
On Monday, President Ludwig von IFuckingHateThisManWithAllMyMight was honoring Native American code talkers, who served in World War II, and thought that it would be funny to call Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) Pocahontas because you know, Native Americans!
snip
What an asshole. Seriously, this man is representing America on a global stage, and he doesnt think that any of this kind of behavior is even remotely racist and cringeworthy.
The Hill notes that none of the code talkers responded to his remarks, and because Trump wasnt finished, he referred to White House chief of staff John Kelly as simply chief because you, Native Americans were in attendance .... and ... fuck this guy.
