Bavarian (Germany) Supreme Court grants Hitler parole on December 19, 1924

https://famous-trials.com/hitler/2531-trial-of-adolf-hitler-a-chronology

Dec. 19, 1924 The Bavarian Supreme Court grants Hitler parole.

Dec. 20, 1924 Hitler is released from Landsberg Prison.

and

Pardoned by the Bavarian Supreme Court, he was released from jail on 20 December 1924, against the state prosecutor's objections.[123] Including time on remand, Hitler served just over one year in prison.[124]

I was not aware of this historical fact. I assume Hitler and/or his barrister/lawyer/solicitor appealed to the Bavarian Supreme Court for the early release.

Rick Scott is filling out a map of Asia at the impeachment trial INSTEAD OF PAYING ATTENTION

https://twitter.com/bensiegel/status/1359931627154124800

If this was a grade school class, Scott would get a reprimand from the teacher for not paying attention. So childish, so unprofessional, so traitorous. We all know how he will vote and for what reasons.

DEFEAT SCOTT IN 2024 !!! Hang this conduct around his neck until his career drowns.

Home free: Florida town lets Donald Trump keep living at Mar-a-Lago

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2021/feb/10/donald-trump-mar-a-lago-florida

snip

Though presumably the most contentious among residents and of the most interest nationally and internationally, the issue took up no more than a half-hour of the council’s time – at the meeting’s end.

The five-member council took no action on the question, which was placed on the agenda because of neighbors’ complaints that Trump’s presence would hurt property values.

It’s unclear if the council will address the issue further, although an attorney representing the residents asked – with no response – that he be allowed to give a fuller presentation in April. The neighbors could also sue the town and Mar-a-Lago.

The town attorney, Skip Randolph, said there was nothing in the club’s 1993 agreement with Palm Beach that prohibits Trump from residing there.

100-year-old accused Nazi camp guard charged with 3,518 counts of accessory to murder

Source: Yahoo News

A 100-year-old German man has been charged with 3,518 counts of accessory to murder, with prosecutors accusing him of working as a guard at the Sachsenhausen Nazi concentration camp near Berlin from 1942 to 1945.

The man, whose name has not been released due to German privacy laws, is considered fit to stand trial. Last week, a 95-year-old woman who served as secretary to the commandant of the Stutthof concentration camp was charged with 10,000 counts of being an accessory to murder and complicity in attempted murders.

German prosecutors are racing against time in an attempt to investigate war crimes involving camp guards, secretaries, and other people who had low-level positions with the Nazis. The pace began picking up in 2011, when 91-year-old John Demjanjuk was convicted of assisting in the deaths of 28,000 people at the Sobibor concentration camp, where prosecutors say he worked as a guard.

Prior to his conviction, Nazi guards were not typically put on trial, because it was too difficult to find evidence of direct participation in a specific killing. The Demjanjuk case set a precedent that anyone who worked at a camp was aware of what was happening, and could be prosecuted for accessory to murder. Demjanjuk, who denied being the feared guard "Ivan the Terrible," was sentenced to five years in prison, and died in 2012 with his case under appeal.

More "shiny toys" for CHaS DU'ers: re-created vintage AIM, AOL, ICQ, Yahoo

Hi lurkers and members of CHaS,

Before anyone asks me, you do NOT have to use any of this or download any of this. Please relax. Those four programs are all totally voluntary to use, so please ignore this if you don't like to play with "shiny tech toys".

More "shiny toys" for you to play with, as indicated in the subject line. I learned of all these here: What Ever Happened to AIM ?

The main download link is here: http://iwarg.ddns.net/phoenix/index.php?action=downloads You might wish to use a "sandbox" to ensure security or just scan them for malware.

Please do NOT ask me for help. I am just as ignorant as the rest of you about all this. If you have some spare time on your hands and like to play around with re-creations of vintage 1990's technology, here you go.

Apparently AIM (AOL Instant Messenger) went kaput forever on December 15th, 2017. I am surprised it lasted that long, around 20 years or so.

Enjoy, my fellow techy DU'ers !

Jet-powered car up for sale in the UK

https://www.theregister.com/2021/01/26/bloodhound_for_sale/

One careful driver: Make room in the garage... Bloodhound jet-powered car is up for sale

The Bloodhound Land Speed Record project is looking for a new owner after its chief exec, Ian Warhurst, confirmed the vehicle is up for sale.

A lengthy journey marked by stops and starts seemed to have come to an end back in 2018 when Warhurst snapped up the assets of Bloodhound. A fresh injection of cash meant the team were able to take the Eurofighter EJ200-propelled car out to the test track at Hakskeenpan in South Africa in 2019. Driver Andy Green subsequently took Bloodhound LSR up to 628mph (1,010kph) by the end of that year.

The next step was to fit the Nammo monopropellant rocket in order to get the vehicle up to the ultimate target of 1,000mph.

snip

A representative for the project told The Register that while £8m was needed to complete the project, the price for the vehicle itself was "negotiable." The Bloodhound LSR car is currently stored in the team's Gloucestershire workshop, and although the team itself has moved on to other projects, they would return if and when finances were put in place.

Hmm... £8,000,000 is roughly $10,964,071.75 according to this estimate.
