Local behavior specialists react to shooting of Miami man shot while helping autistic client

CLEARWATER, Fla. - It didn't take long for news to spread about the shooting of a behavioral therapist in Miami at a Clearwater adult disabled center.

Charles Kinsey, an unarmed African American, was shot by a police officer while trying to help a 24-year-old man who ran away from his group home.

Kinsey who had his hands up in the air was trying to calm his client in the middle of a road.

ARC Tampa Bay helps provide services and living arrangements for disabled adults in the Tampa bay area.

Chuck Thompson has been working as a behavior specialist at the non-profit for 21 years, and has ran into a police encounter with a client before.

"I was in that situation basically, I had to shield my client from getting shot," he said.

I heard the parent of an autistic child saying his son often moves suddenly and he needs to know if that is a death sentence. Seriously these fugging police are out of control

Have to say they've put this together really well

Go Bernie!!!

Florida Gator Football Player Rescues Woman Being Sexually Assaulted

Too often lately, we’ve heard about men taking advantage of unconscious women, a devastating truth in our consistently amoral society. Thankfully, one man recently put a stop to a sexual assault and potentially saved a woman’s life.

Around 2 a.m. Thursday [July 21] morning, Florida Gators football player, Christian Garcia, was taking out the trash at his Gainesville restaurant job, where he was working security, when he saw the rapist assaulting the woman behind a dumpster.

According to GatorSports.com, Garcia saw the man pressing the woman up against the dumpster. At first the guy said she was his girlfriend, but about five seconds later he realized the girl was unconscious.

“I turned around and pulled the guy by the shoulder and said, ‘Get off,'” Garcia said. “That pretty much ended the situation then. He was intoxicated and attempted to throw some punches, but he slipped and busted his face on the wall.”

The rape was also captured on video by another one of the witnesses. According to the police report, the woman was unable to walk on her own, couldn’t keep her eyes open and had difficulty speaking. Gainesville police arrested 34-year-old Christopher Shaw and charged him with sexual battery.

Darby Makes the Closest Pass to Honolulu by a Tropical Storm in Recorded History - Jeff Masters

Climate Change is real - our oceans are getting hotter.
The closest approach on record by a tropical storm to the island of Oahu resulted in torrential rains in excess of ten inches there as Tropical Storm Darby passed just 40 miles to the south and west of Honolulu, Oahu on Sunday with sustained winds of 40 mph. No other named storm on record has passed that close to Honolulu or Oahu since accurate records began in 1949. Rainfall amounts of over ten inches in the 24 hours ending at 3:45 am HST Monday were reported at five locations on the eastern half of Oahu from Darby:

11.09" Moanalua RG
10.94" Nuuanu Upper
10.81" Luluku
10.70" Waihee Pump
10.04" Palisades

Monday morning Hawaiian radar showed that Darby continued to stream bands of heavy rain over the island, and satellite loops showed that Darby still had plenty of heavy thunderstorms on the northeast side of its circulation. Over the weekend, Darby also brought rains in excess of ten inches to West Wailuaiki, Maui (12.63" and Paauilo, on the Big Island (10.19". There have been several road closures on Oahu due to flooding, and as of 10 pm HST Sunday, the Honolulu fire department reported 59 calls from residents who needed to be evacuated from their homes due to flooding. About 1,000 customers have lost power from the storm thus far. Darby, downgraded to a tropical depression at 11 am EDT Monday, should cease deluging Oahu by Monday afternoon as the storm pulls away to the west.

Stay safe folks
