Ohio Moves To Ban Abortion 6 Weeks After Conception

That’s before some women even realize they’re pregnant.

WASHINGTON― Ohio’s Republican-led House and Senate passed legislation Tuesday night that would ban abortions as soon as a fetal heartbeat can be detected― as early as six weeks after conception.

The measure was attached at the last minute as an amendment to an unrelated child abuse bill. It has no exceptions for rape or incest.

If it’s passed into law, physicians could face a year in prison if they perform an abortion after a heartbeat is detected or if they fail to check for one before a procedure.

The measure is the most extreme abortion restriction in the country, effectively banning the procedure before most women even realize they’re pregnant, pro-abortion rights advocates said.

Green Partys Stein To Pursue Pennsylvania Recount Petition In Federal Court

Green Party candidate Jill Stein late Saturday vowed to bring her fight for a recount of votes cast in Pennsylvania in the U.S. presidential election to federal court, after a state judge ordered her campaign to post a $1 million bond.

“The Stein campaign will continue to fight for a statewide recount in Pennsylvania,” Jonathan Abady, lead counsel to Stein’s recount efforts, said in a statement.

Saying it has become clear that “the state court system is so ill-equipped to address this problem,” the statement said “we must seek federal court intervention.”

The Stein campaign said it will file for emergency relief in the Pennsylvania effort in federal court on Monday, “demanding a statewide recount on constitutional grounds.”

The bond was set by the Commonwealth Court of Pennsylvania a day after representatives of President-elect Donald Trump requested a $10 million bond, according to court papers.

Trump team moves to block Pennsylvania recount

The filing comes on the heels of the Trump camp's complaint reported earlier Thursday in Michigan dismissing Green Party candidate Jill Stein's claims of impropriety during the 2016 presidential race, and a day after the the Wisconsin Republican Party logged a complaint with the Federal Election Committee arguing that Stein was seeking to benefit Democratic Party nominee Hillary Clinton.

Why Is Trump Fighting So Hard to Stop the Recount in Michigan?

“You wonder why they are fighting it so hard,” said Bob Fitrakis, an Ohio-based attorney who was involved in that state’s 2004 presidential recount and has been advising the Green Party in 2016. “Michigan, with its thousands of undervotes [no vote recorded for president] in Democratic strongholds—these people voted the whole ticket but left off Hillary Clinton?”

Kellogg Is Latest Company To Pull Advertising From Breitbart

GOING AFTER BREITBART ADVERTISERS

The food company joins Warby Parker, Allstate and others in severing relations with the conservative outlet.

Kellogg is pulling advertisements from Breitbart, a website that traffics in racist, sexist and anti-Semitic content.

A Kellogg spokesman told The Huffington Post that consumers alerted the food company to its ads on Breitbart.

“We regularly work with our media buying partners to ensure our ads do not appear on sites that aren’t aligned with our values as company,” Kellogg spokesman Kris Charles said. “This involves reviewing websites where ads could potentially be placed using filtering technology to assess site content. As you can imagine, there is a very large volume of websites, so occasionally something is inadvertently missed.”

Breitbart did not immediately return a request for comment. Its executive chairman, Steve Bannon, has been named chief strategist and senior counselor to President-elect Donald Trump.

Kellogg is only the latest company to sever relations with Breitbart, whose incendiary headlines include “Birth Control Makes Women Unattractive And Crazy” and “Bill Kristol: Republican Spoiler, Renegade Jew.” Last week, the massive ad distributor AppNexus deactivated Breitbart’s access to its advertising tools. Other companies to pull advertising from the site include Allstate, Nest, EarthLink, Warby Parker and SoFi, Bloomberg reported.

The No-BS Inside Guide to the Presidential Vote Recount - Greg Palast, Truthout

The nasty little secret of US elections is that we don't count all the votes.

Mail-in, Early and Absentee Ballots Go Absent

If you've gone postal in this election, good luck! According to EAC data, at least half a million absentee ballots go absent, that is, just don't get counted. The cause: everything from postage due, to "suspect signature." In Fitrakis' home state, Ohio, you need to put your driver's license number on the envelope, "and if you don't have a driver's license and leave the line blank -- instead of writing 'no driver's license' -- they toss your ballot," Fitrakis tells me.

It's a "gotcha!" system meant to knock out the ballots the officials don't want to count. (Remember, your mail-in ballot is anything but secret.) Team Green will try to fight for each absentee ballot rejected for cockamamie reasons.

Hillary Joins the Fray

What will the Clinton camp add to the recount? "Lawyers," said Fitrakis, though he's yet to see them. The Clinton campaign is apparently helping find one voter in each Pennsylvania county, as one is required in each jurisdiction to file for a recount of that state.

Security Experts Back Up Jill Stein's Demand for Manual Recount

Security experts on Monday testified in support of Green Party presidential nominee Jill Stein, who is spearheading a by-hand election recount initiative in Wisconsin.

Unless a judge rules in her favor, the state will likely allow its 72 counties to decide whether they want to conduct the process manually or by machine. On Monday, a group of academics and other specialists agreed with Stein's argument that an automated recount would risk an incorrect tally. President-elect Donald Trump won Wisconsin 47.9 percent to Democratic rival Hillary Clinton's 46.9 percent—a margin of just over 22,000 votes.

A manual count would be the only way to ensure that there had been no foreign interference, the experts said.

Wisconsin just upped their fee to recount from 1.1 million to 3.5 MILLION -trying to block recount

Guess we all need to donate a little more!!! Sounds like Wisconsin really is fearful of a recount. From Jill on Facebook:

Friends, I have an important message to you. We need your help to stand up to the powerful forces trying to block our recounts campaign for citizen democracy. We received word yesterday that the final estimate for the filing fee for the recount in Wisconsin is $3.5 million—an outrageous cost increase from the initial estimate of $1.1 million that was given to us by WI state elections officials based on the last statewide recount. But thanks to over 130,000 small-dollar donors like you, we have enough money in hand to pay this fee and move forward with the recount!

I’ll be coming live to you on Facebook later today to discuss this new development and where we need to go from here. Despite the outrageous obstacles being thrown in our way, we are determined to keep standing up for democracy and for a voting system that we can trust. Please tune in then.

We stand by our commitment to verify that the vote in Wisconsin was accurate and secure and this exorbitant cost will not deter us. While this excessive fee places an undue burden on our efforts, we are committed to paying this cost in order to ensure that the voting in Wisconsin was accurate. It is another sign of a democracy in crisis that ordinary citizens must pay so steep a price in order to assure the validity of our votes. The grassroots demand for a recount in Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania will not be stopped, and we look forward to working with the Elections Commissions in Wisconsin and the other states to see this through. We will be alerting recount advocates that we must now raise an additional $2.4 million dollars to cover this new extraordinary burden in Wisconsin. In doing so, we are committed to ensuring that a secure vote should not come at such an unconscionable cost. As citizens in a democracy, it should be our right.
