A new low in rotten

Many years ago, when his son was still a minor, the father took his son to the bank to establish a savings account for the boy. A fairly common practice, but in this case a bit of a milestone. The son was born with multiple disabilities, but he worked hard and often struggled to overcome many of the limitations; and he continued to make regular deposits to his savings account.

Fast forward to the present. The son, now a young man in his late 20s who lives independently, goes to visit his parents. Like many families, they have been hit hard in the tough economy, and there has been a foreclosure. His dad has some health issues, and his mother is struggling through the final stages of cancer. Wanting to do something to brighten the dreariness, he goes to the bank to withdraw a little money. The account is empty. The bank took the money during the foreclosure because the father had, all those years ago, co-signed on his disabled child's savings account.

The sign out front says "Bank of America," but I have to wonder -- which "America" approves of theft from the disabled?

Ummm...

Weird. Woke up in the middle of the night, heard voices in my living room. So I grabbed my trusty cane and made my way down the hall, stuck my head around the corner to see no one there. But the conversation continued, seemed to be like an infomercial about, of all things, some kind of face cream. At that, I surmised that I must have left the TV on as that's where the sound was coming from. So I grabbed the remote and turned to point it at the TV and was amazed to find it off. I clicked it on, and the conversation stopped, the TV showing Comedy Central where I'd watched Jon Stewart before heading off to bed. Turned it off, and it remained quiet, no more chit chat.

So, any ideas? And, no, I'm not doing drugs and I don't drink.

Am I wearing orange colored glasses or did John Boehner just pretend to care about women?

Margaret, the Republicans are trying to get into my vagina again. I wish I knew what was up there that they find so interesting. This time it was about sex-selective abortions with a bill sponsored by Trent Franks of Arizona. In spite of the pressing issues with the economy, Speaker of the House John Boehner justified Congress spending more time worrying about a woman’s womb by saying, “This is an important issue to the American people. This type of sex selection most Americans find pretty repulsive, and our members feel strongly about it. That’s why it is being brought to the floor.” Am I wearing orange colored glasses or did Boehner just pretend to care about women?

Yes. It is repulsive. I agree. But then again so are most of the “Housewives” shows on Bravo, and Congress hasn’t passed any laws about that.

I dare you, Mitt.

I double-dog dare you to come to Colorado and explain why we need fewer firefighters. And be sure to bring your little buddy Scott Walker with you.

Colorado burning

I was attending a garden party/cookout in Greeley, roughly 40 miles to the east and south of the Poudre Canyon where a huge fire now rages; the wind shifted and I had to to head for home as the wind now carried more than a whiff of smoke. A friend who lives on the north side of Cheyenne, Wyoming just posted this pic to facebook. Looking south, that's the plume from the fire outside Ft. Collins, Colorado. It's going to be a long, uncomfortable summer.
