madamesilverspurs's JournalLate night this morning
Since I couldn't sleep anyway, turned on Cspan to watch the votes in the Senate. Not terribly surprising to see a whole lot of posturing umbrage from GOPers, and some of their proposed amendments were just plain silly, while others were clearly calculated to insult Democrats and/or waste time.
Three highlights:
Cory Booker's phenomenal response to Tuberville,
Durbin gleefully pointing out that Hawley's proposed amendment had been authored by Senator Joe Biden in the '90s, and
Tim Kaine (presiding) shooting side-eye daggers at every Cruz objection.
On the side, during one of roll call votes, one of the recording clerks left her mic open as she sighed and muttered "good grief". Kudos for her restraint.
Not surprising, Schumer and Durbin conducted themselves with the patience, class, and decorum we've come to expect of them. Much appreciated.

Did anyone happen to get it on video?

Olympics note
Enjoyed watching, the athletes are nothing short of amazing. And I look forward to watching Peking and Paris. That said, I'm hoping that whoever does those broadcasts does away with the overlapping commentaries. It was a bit like trying to watch a movie while the people sitting behind are carrying on a conversation, annoying in the extreme. Even during the closing ceremony, they showed the lovely video Paris had prepared and the voiceover person insisted on describing the "tall woman with long hair and freckles" while the other voice was noting the French astronaut watching from orbit. Yeesh.
Gritch over.
