demmiblue's JournalNPR 'Founding Mother' Unloads on Public Editor Over SCOTUS Story: 'She's Not Clarifying Anything!'
The widening controversy over an NPR story on masks in the Supreme Court turned inward as a legendary reporter there blasted the broadcasters public editor for critiquing her work.
The public editor, Kelly McBride, who operates independently of the newsroom but takes a paycheck from the publication, called for a clarification, but not a correction to an article about the Supreme Court written by one of the newsrooms founding mothers, legal affairs correspondent Nina Totenberg.
She can write any goddamn thing she wants, whether or not I think its true, Totenberg told The Daily Beast on Thursday night. Shes not clarifying anything!
Totenberg laughed, and added: I havent even looked at it, and I dont care to look at it because I report to the news division, she does not report to the news division.

BREAKING: Georgia sues Biden administration over health waiver
Source: AJC
Georgia has filed suit against the Biden administration, demanding reinstatement of Gov. Brian Kemps health care waiver plan to cover some poor Georgia adults.
The waiver, approved in the waning days of the Trump administration, is meant to be a limited response to the Affordable Care Acts invitation to states to expand the Medicaid health insurance program to all poor adults. The Kemp administration has estimated that his plan would end up covering perhaps 50,000 of Georgias poor adults. Thats out of perhaps 400,000 that it estimated might have been covered by full Medicaid expansion; those others would continue to lack coverage.
Instead of expanding Medicaid to all of Georgias poor, the Kemp waiver proposed to expand it only to those who met certain requirements. Those included working 80 hours a month at a registered job or other specificied activities.
It would not include, for example, taking full-time care of a relative with Alzheimers. Those who are mentally ill but unable or unwilling to go through the long bureaucracy to be federally certified as disabled would also not meet coverage requirements.

Run for the Trees: Happy Little Virtual 5K
No matter how you reach the finish line - walk, run or roll - you pick the pace and the place, as long as it's outdoors. You have between April 22-29, 2022 to complete it. For good measure, Earth Day and Arbor Day serve as bookends to this state parks-supporting race!
...
All proceeds support tree-planting and forest protection efforts (such as invasive plant and forest pest management and early detection surveys) in state parks and recreation areas, including locations affected by tree pests and diseases like emerald ash borer and oak wilt.
Brilliant marketing!

New audio emerged from Michigan Republican Party Co-chair Meshawn Maddock claiming the Trump campaign encouraged efforts to give him the state's electoral votes.
The 16 people in December of 2020, including Maddock, tried to enter the State Capitol and pose as official electors to certify the election for Trump.
They signed documents and sent them to Washington to try to sway the certification.

How Old Were the Golden Girls Supposed to Be?
Rose's age is the easiest to track down, thanks to Dorothy openly saying it in Season 1, Episode 22, "Job Hunting." During a conversation where Rose discusses her difficulty finding a new job after losing her previous one at the grief counseling center, Dorothy reveals that Rose is 55. Going off the idea that Season 1 takes place within the same year, Rose would have been 55 at the start of The Golden Girls as well.
Saving the most difficult to track down for last, Blanche Devereaux's age had been a mystery, and recurring joke, throughout most of The Golden Girls. Rose went so far as to search through official records to find out, only to learn it was "deleted by authority of the governor." In Season 2, Episode 1, "End of the Curse," Blanche believes she is pregnant, and states she'll be 65 by the time the child graduates high school. Assuming her child would graduate at 17, that would make Blanche 48 in 1986 and 47 at the start of the series.
However, Season 3, Episode 25, "Mother's Day," confirms Blanche was 17 in 1949, when she and her mother reminisce about one of Blanche's dates. Going by the math, that makes Blanche 53 at the start of the series. Considering how easily Blanche lied to her housemates about her age (and that Sophia immediately called her out and said she'd be 70 when the kid graduates), it's safe to assume that 53 is her actual age going into The Golden Girls.
