Republicans on the House Intelligence Committee this morning are boycotting a public hearing...

Republicans on the House Intelligence Committee this morning are boycotting a public hearing convened on emerging technologies and national security, citing the committee's lack of hearings or briefings on FISA abuse.

In a letter to Chairman Adam Schiff, GOP members write, “Until the Committee prioritizes oversight activities related to urgent and critical concerns, Republican Members cannot support distractions from our core responsibilities”

Here’s the half-empty dais

In their letter, Republicans say there are “numerous committees” in the House that can conduct hearings on emerging science and technology matters, and that House Intel should focus on “critical issues we are uniquely postured to address.”

But...

... it’s very much worth noting the country’s counterintelligence chief warned just this Monday of the growing threat from foreign adversaries leveraging new technologies for espionage:

Subcommittee chairman @jahimes called GOP letter "as wrongheaded as it is mendacious," and said Rep. Stewart (its ranking member) told him GOP was reluctant to engage in committee's public work because of grievances related to impeachment - an issue not mentioned in their letter

The hearing is nonetheless ongoing, and streaming here:

Scoop: Trump pulls former U.S. attorney for D.C.'s nomination to Treasury post

Source: Axios

President Trump is withdrawing his nomination for former U.S. attorney for D.C. Jessie Liu to serve as the Treasury Department's undersecretary for terrorism and financial crimes, a top position overseeing economic sanctions, according to two sources with direct knowledge.

The big picture: Liu was confirmed in September 2017 to lead the largest U.S. attorney's office in the country, overseeing a number of politically charged investigations that included the case against Trump associates Roger Stone, Paul Manafort and other spinoffs from the Mueller investigation.

Liu stepped down from the U.S. attorney's office after Trump announced his intention to nominate her to the Treasury position in December 2019.

She was replaced by Timothy Shea, who is currently serving on an interim basis.

Barr just addressed Graham's claim of DOJ-Giuliani channel: "We had established an intake process in the field so that any information coming in from Ukraine could be carefully scrutinized by the department so that we could address its provenance...including info" from Giuliani.

Utterly insane. He’s reportedly under investigation for this influence peddling scheme in one district, two of his assistants have been indicted, and he’s being encouraged to pursue it by headquarters.

Finland's Women-Led Government Has Equalized Family Leave: 7 Months For Each Parent

People often ponder how the world might be different if more women were in political power. In Finland, where women lead the five parties in the coalition government, here's one change they're making: equal paid leave for both parents in a family.

Finland's government, led by 34-year-old Prime Minister Sanna Marin, has announced a new policy that will grant nearly seven months of paid leave to each parent, for a total of 14 months of paid leave. The pregnant parent also can receive one month of pregnancy allowance even before the parental leave starts.

The new policy is designed to be gender-neutral and will come into effect as soon as fall 2021. It will eliminate gender-based allowances that currently grant about four months of paid leave to mothers and about two months to fathers.

Parents will be permitted to transfer 69 days from their own quota to the other parent. A single parent will have access to the allowance for both parents.

Fox News Internal Document Bashes Pro-Trump Fox Regulars for Spreading 'Disinformation'Article

Source: The Daily Beast

Fox News’ own research team has warned colleagues not to trust some of the network’s top commentators’ claims about Ukraine.

An internal Fox News research briefing book obtained by The Daily Beast openly questions Fox News contributor John Solomon’s credibility, accusing him of playing an “indispensable role” in a Ukrainian “disinformation campaign.”

The document also accuses frequent Fox News guest Rudy Giuliani of amplifying disinformation, as part of an effort to oust former U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch, and blasts Fox News guests Victoria Toensing and Joe diGenova—both ardent Trump boosters—for “spreading disinformation.”

The 162-page dossier, entitled “Ukraine, Disinformation, & the Trump Administration,” was created by Fox News senior political affairs specialist Bryan S. Murphy, who produces research from what is known as the network’s Brain Room—a newsroom division of researchers who provide information, data, and topic guides for the network’s programming.
