Sarahbeth Maney, a sudden star of Washington photojournalism, plans to relocate to Detroit in June after a year-long New York Times fellowship.
Maney, 26, made a major splash this week with a viral photo from Day 1 of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson's confirmation hearing for the Supreme Court. She snapped Leila Jackson, 17, glancing at her mother with emotions every parent hopes to earn. A Detroit Free Press arts and culture reporter voices a future's colleague's pride as he shares Maney's tweet of the image:
The young woman who snapped this powerful photo is coming this summer to work full time for the Detroit Free Press. #detroit #michigan https://t.co/Pq5K2piFF7

The portrait of pride drawns national attention, as does the 2019 college graduate who captured it. The New York Times interviewed its staffer about the shot it calls "one of the events most widely shared images." The native of Oakland, Calif., also spoke with her home area NPR station, KQED, and did Saturday interviews with WDIV of Detroit and MSNBC, among others.

Cost to reserve parking spaces in downtown Lansing to spend 2 days honking in protest of COVID mandates that are generally no longer in existence at the state level:
$1,090.
One more fun fact on this protest:
The city tells me the person who paid for the parking reservations is from Indiana.

Twitter adds Elon Musk to its board of directors.
Source: NYT
Elon Musk is joining the board of Twitter.
The company disclosed the news in a securities filing on Tuesday, one day after Mr. Musk said he had a 9.2 percent stake in the social media giant, a purchase that appeared to make him its largest shareholder. The news sent Twitters shares skyrocketing more than 20 percent.
Mr. Musk had been mum on his intentions. He registered with a securities document called a 13G filing, indicating that he planned for the investment to be passive and that he did not intend to pursue a larger role in the company. It was not immediately clear how he obtained the Twitter board seat and whether doing so was a matter of pursuing control.
Jack Dorsey, Twitters co-founder, stepped down as its chief executive in November and plans to leave the companys board when his term ends this year.

Trump's Truth Social Is Doing Even Worse Than You Thought
Soon after the start of the soft launch of his social media company Truth Social in late February, Donald Trump grew deeply annoyed with the anemic growth and the lackluster rollout of the website. Though Trump and his team were expecting the new app to be a huge hit with his political base, the site was handily trounced in recent weeks by competitor MAGA social networks, including one that caters primarily to neo-Nazis.
But this month, the situation has only gotten worse for Trumps latest large-scale business venture, according to data analyses reviewed by The Daily Beast, and sources close to Trump say he has recently complained about the low-energy activity on the app and appears disengaged from trying to turn the platform around, much less post on it.
Download data shared by the analytics firm Apptopia shows that downloads of the app have plummeted from a peak of 170,000 downloads a day to just 8,000 now. The app is now just the 355th most popular app on Apple devices overall. And those who have downloaded it dont seem to be using it that much.
