Baltimore Museum of Art will only buy women's art in 2020

The Baltimore Museum of Art (BMA) has unveiled plans that it will only buy art by women next year. Right now, only four percent of the museum's collection is by female artists.

As part of the BMA's 2020 Vision initiative, the museum will also showcase at least 20 exhibitions featuring work from a diverse range of women, including Elissa Blount Moorhead.

For Moorhead, the first time she saw herself reflected in a work of art, it wasn't in a museum. It was in her parent's house, going through her dad's record albums. The Funkadelic album covers of Pedro Bell featured black women in futuristic settings, surrounded by bright oranges and blues.

"I just remember looking at the album covers and reading them, and recognizing they were black women," Moorhead said. "And thinking they looked like people I knew, even though they were psychedelic."

Now an established artist, Moorhead's work will be featured in an exhibition next year. Other exhibitions include works already featured by Georgia O'Keeffe, Grace Hartigan and others, as part of the museum's plan.

Bloomberg Is Starting His Campaign With A Big Asset--His Gun-Control Group's Email List

His campaign is “temporarily renting” the addresses of Moms Demand Action’s supporters.

Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg officially entered the 2020 Democratic race Sunday with a potent asset: The vast trove of email addresses amassed by Moms Demand Action, the nonpartisan gun control advocacy organization hosted under the umbrella of Everytown for Gun Safety, which Bloomberg co-founded and largely finances.

The leaders of Moms Demand Action state chapters and local groups received the news from Aimee Tavares, a senior national organizing director for the group, who sent an email roughly three and a half hours after news broke that Bloomberg would formally announce his candidacy. “Given his unique role in launching Everytown, his leadership in advancing the cause of gun safety, and the significant investments he’s made in helping to grow our movement, Mayor Bloomberg’s campaign is temporarily renting access to our list of supporters so they can communicate his plans for achieving our shared goal of a nation free from gun violence,” Tavares wrote.

Tavares added the campaign would not retain access to Moms Demand Action’s email list at the conclusion of Bloomberg’s bid. Members of the group would be “under no obligation to take any action” in response to Bloomberg’s campaign missives, and that “it is entirely up to our volunteers how they spend their volunteer time in this election and which candidates they choose to support, up and down the ballot,” she wrote.

Tavares’ email gave no endorsement of Bloomberg’s candidacy, but noted that “his participation will ensure that our issue remains at the forefront during the remainder of primary season.” In a Twitter thread announcing his candidacy, Bloomberg shared that he had “founded the largest gun safety group in history” alongside a photo of him posing with Moms Demand Action volunteers.

I was not pleased with the way that Navy Seal Eddie Gallagher’s trial was handled by the Navy. He was treated very badly but, despite this, was completely exonerated on all major charges. I then restored Eddie’s rank. Likewise, large cost overruns from past administration’s.....

Scoop: White House directed block of Armenian genocide resolution

Source: Axios

...

What happened next, which has not been previously reported: As Graham was leaving the Oval Office, senior White House staff asked him to return to the Senate and block the Armenian genocide resolution — a measure that would have infuriated Erdoğan.

Graham confirmed this in a phone interview on Saturday.

"After the meeting, we kind of huddled up and talked about what happened," he said. A White House legislative affairs official told Graham that Bob Menendez (D-N.J.) was going to bring up his Armenian genocide resolution and asked if Graham could "please object."

"I said sure," Graham said. "The only reason I did it is because he [Erdoğan] was still in town. ... That would've been poor timing. I'm trying to salvage the relationship if possible."

Very sad news. We lost another soldier fighting in Ferguson 😔. This is Melissa Ritchey protesting in face of police right after an aggressive arrest of protester at Rams game protest 11/30/14. Melissa was out there for months in 2014 helping in various ways.

2/Melissa also suffered from seizures exacerbated by stress. Had them at Rams & highway protests. Her family urged her not to protest. She said:

“As a white ally, we can’t just say ‘Black Lives Matter’ & then not get out there. I just wish there were more white ppl out there”
👇

3/GREAT article by RiverFront Times after Melissa Ritchey was arrested after having seizure during highway shutdown.

“I just have to do it. Everyday you go on Twitter & it’s another Black or Brown life killed by police. We have to stand up against that”

Ruth Bader Ginsburg 'home and doing well' after hospitalization, Supreme Court says

Source: CNN

(CNN)Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg was released from the hospital and is home after having experienced chills and a fever, the Supreme Court announced Sunday.

"She is home and doing well," A court spokeswoman said.

Ginsburg, 86, was initially evaluated at Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington, DC, before being transferred to Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore Friday night for treatment of any possible infection. The high court said Saturday that Ginsburg's symptoms had abated after receiving IV antibiotics and fluids.

Her hospital trip came just days after Ginsburg returned to the bench after missing a day in court due to a stomach bug. On Friday, Ginsburg had participated in the regular closed-door conference with other justices, according to a court spokeswoman.

Bloomberg Editor-in-Chief John Micklethwait just sent this note to staffers: "There is no point in trying to claim that covering this presidential campaign will be easy for a newsroom that has built up its reputation for independence in part by not writing about ourselves..."

Micklethwait says Bloomberg editorial board will be suspended.

"On News, we will write about virtually all aspects of this presidential contest...."

Micklethwait says will "continue our tradition of not investigating Mike...and we will extend the same policy to his rivals..."

Hunh... some members of his Editorial Board (suspended) are going to join his campaign.
