A Central Park entrance named for the exonerated 'Central Park Five' is unveiled

Source: CNN

New York City unveiled the “Gate of the Exonerated” in Central Park Monday to honor the group of Black and Hispanic teens known as the “Central Park Five” who were wrongfully convicted of beating and raping a White female jogger in the park more than 30 years ago.

Korey Wise, Antron McCray, Raymond Santana, Kevin Richardson and Yusef Salaam – individuals from the group, also known as the “Exonerated Five” – each served several years in prison before being exonerated in 2002.

New York Mayor Eric Adam’s reflected on the historic moment and presented a key to the city to the exonerated five.

“History has an opportunity to rewrite the lines,” he said.

With new Democratic leadership next year, what long-inert legislation will now pass?

Our roundup of proposals to address labor rights, education, LGBTQ+ rights, the environment, gun safety, abortion rights, health care, infrastructure and more

It has been decades since Michigan Democrats have been able to fully enact their legislative priorities. That could change next month as the 102nd Legislature comes to order.

Following Democrats’ historic victories on Nov. 8 — which included winning both the House and Senate and a sweep of statewide offices — Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and incoming leaders are now considering a laundry list of legislative actions, from labor rights and environmental protections to civil rights and abortion care, that could finally become law without GOP obstruction.

For years, Democrats have introduced thousands of progressive bills that had little chance of passage, as Republicans have controlled the House since 2011 and the Senate since 1984. But many of these bills are likely to be reintroduced next session.

Here are the issues the Advance is watching and legislation that may be passed in a Democratic-controlled Legislature:

Twitter isn't letting me send DMs that include links to Mastodon.

I've tried on mobile and web, multiple different server names. I can't link to the servers, individual posts, or anything else Mastodon, in a Twitter DM.

All I can say is that those of us who have lost friends, fought with relatives, resigned positions, been called traitor, left our party, all because we saw very clearly what a con-man, huckster and fraud this man is, have never felt more vindicated.

Interesting party (Jr. & Kimmy).

There are not enough cases of Lume to clean up this mess.

Texts Expose Giuliani Legal Team's Divisive Election 'Circus' And Requests For Cash

Source: TPM

By Josh Kovensky and Hunter Walker | December 14, 2022 6:34 p.m.

It was just shy of six weeks after the 2020 election and Jason Miller, a top campaign adviser to former President Trump, had a problem.

Rudy Giuliani, Trump’s personal lawyer, who was playing a leading part in the campaign’s efforts to dispute the result, wanted to blast out a press release. It focused on thoroughly debunked conspiracy theories related to Dominion, a voting systems company that would later sue Giuliani for defamation.

In a text to Mark Meadows, Trump’s White House chief of staff, Miller indicated that others in Trumpworld had concerns about Giuliani’s release. Miller wanted Meadows to intervene and help shut it down.

Hi Chief – sorry to be a stalker, but I wanted to make sure you saw the Dominion/Michigan release I emailed to you for review. The Mayor wants to put it out right away, but Eric (rightfully) thinks it doesn’t make any sense. This would be the first time shooting down a Rudy press release request, so I wanted to get your take on this as well. Thank you, Jason
