So, I learned recently that my hubby and I got married on the same day that Ukraine issued it's Declaration of Independence in 1991.

Tomorrow, Aug. 24th, we will celebrate

31 years of Ukrainian independence...

AND

31 years of being married to the love of my life.

A sad note from the political comedy-media sphere. TBS has cancelled Full Frontal with Samantha Bee, after a seven year run. Bee, an alum of the Daily Show, was a rarity in the world of late night television talk and comedy shows — a woman. The Amber Ruffin Show — streaming on Peacock- will soon be the only woman-hosted late night talk show left on the digitized airwaves. Bee’s weekly series was not without accolades, having been nominated for four years straight in the main late-night Emmy category. As for her ratings, Full Frontal was ranking slightly ahead of The Daily Show and notable news-oriented/talk programs, such as Anderson Cooper 360 and All in with Chris Hayes.

They are NOT unintended consequences

Humans have known for centuries how dangerous childbirth can be. Modern medicine has given us the means to make it less so, allowing women to take more control over their lives and their bodies—control that many men are bitter at having “lost,” and that many unenlightened women believe to be a burden they would just as soon relinquish. (Lookin’ at you, Amy). But even so, pregnancy and childbirth are inherently risky.

So the horror stories that are making the news since the Dobbs decision hurled us all back into the dark ages were NOT unforeseen. Indeed, women more intelligent than I have been sounding the alarm about the dangers of overturning Roe since…well, since Roe was decided.

We all knew that rape victims, even ten-year-old rape victims, would be denied the chance to ever heal from the attack, and instead be forced to relive it over and over again, nurturing its result with our very blood. We knew that women would be forced into life-threatening situations where only days or even hours earlier, a routine surgical option would have been performed to the relief of everyone involved. We knew people would suffer excruciating pain, financial disaster, emotional agony, and even death. We all knew.

So I am forced to conclude that the five “justices” who have inflicted this new reality on us intended for it to happen, wanted it to happen.

Why? Well, that’s between them and their sick, twisted so-called “god”.

I, for one, am all out of fucks to give. I no longer feel compelled to follow the laws of a country that can so easily dismiss me as a person, endanger my life and the lives of my loved ones, and threaten prosecution—fucking CRIMINAL PROSECUTION—of those who would attend me.

They did this to us on purpose. I firmly believe that.

I’m not saying I want to burn it all to the goddamn ground. But I am keeping my matches handy.

Serious question about the Constitution...

First a caveat: I know that the current SCOTUS doesn't give a shit what the Constitution actually says. I'm just really curious if this argument has been made.

The fourteenth amendment says

"All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws."

It says "born" not "conceived". Doesn't this negate the five Handmaid justices' argument giving equal protection to the "unborn"?

Here's my stab at a XXVIIIth amendment:

When the Constitution refers to 'men' or 'women' it shall be understood as 'people'.

1. 'People' shall be understood as natural born persons. These include, but are not limited to
a. Women
b. Men
c. Children
d. People of any race, ethnicity, gender or ability

'People' shall be understood to EXCLUDE
a. Corporations
b. Guns
c. Ova, sperm, zygote, blastocyst or fetus unable to survive outside a uterus

2. People have a right to privacy and bodily autonomy. No state shall make a law infringing on any person's right to privacy and bodily autonomy.

3. This right is not absolute, but shall be assumed except in cases where Congress has deemed it invalid due to age, criminal conduct, or threats to national security.



Now, just to be clear...


1. Please don't tell me how naive I am. I know it has no chance. Just wishin' and hopin'.

2. I'm sure those lawyers out there can pick this apart like maggots on a corpse. That's fine. I'm just trying to help.
