Christie uses wife as excuse for not joining Trump Administration

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie turned down several jobs in the Trump administration because his wife refused to move to Washington, the governor said Wednesday.

Speaking on New York radio station WFAN's "Boomer and Carton" program, Christie said that influenced his decision on accepting any of the positions offered by Republican President-elect Donald Trump.

"He didn't offer me a job that I thought was exciting enough for me to leave the governorship and my family," Christie said. "Because Mary Pat made really clear she wasn't coming to D.C."

The Republican governor said he would have made at least a two-year commitment to be there.

Two of the couple's four children live at home and are in high school.

Christie is in the final full year of his second and last term as governor.

Trump on Monday told The Wall Street Journal, "at some point, we're going to do something with Chris."

And this man will have the nuclear codes Friday.

Trump is a man isolated, increasingly cocooned away from the voters who lifted him to his seemingly improbable victory. He favors his own people and his own places, creating the veneer of accessibility — his tweets reach millions and he still answers his cellphone — while placing himself in almost entirely habitual settings.

He spends most of his days in Trump Tower, with few close friends and few meaningful one-on-one interactions beyond the family members, advisers and loyalists who are whisked by gold-colored elevator to his 26th-floor office for private audiences. Trump rarely leaves, not even for a breath of fresh air; nor does he encounter many people he does not already know or who do not work for him.

'Death Race 2000' Feels More Relevant Than It Ever Was

"Machine Gun Joe, thousands love him. Millions hate him,” intones the announcer Junior Bruce while introducing Sylvester Stallone’s invulnerable character

The same was being said about Donald Trump in the run-up to his presidential upset in 2016. Yes, it was also being said about his competition, the former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, but she didn’t have a reality TV show and she was ultimately fired. Corman and his indomitable American International Pictures called all this back in 1975, before there was even The Gong Show. The legendary filmmaker spoke with Den of Geek about the pileup that awaits.

Death Race 2000 was a prescient satirical look into a future when satire wasn’t our everyday norm. The country is ruled by a benevolently wacky despot who likes things big and fast. The world’s media is captivated by the Miss America-contestant-worthy presidential aides, the country is experiencing a perennial rebound and reality TV is so real you just might get run over.

Death Race 2000 was remade by director Paul W.S. Anderson as Death Race in 2008, with Jason Statham and Joan Allen chasing the checkered flag, but Corman is back in the driver’s seat with the sequel, Roger Corman’s Death Race 2050, directed by G.J. Echternkamp (Hard Candy), which is is now out on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD.

“In the not-too-distant future, America is controlled by an all-powerful corporate government that keeps the masses placated with violent virtual-reality entertainment," reads the official synopsis of Roger Corman’s Death Race 2050. The film stars Malcolm McDowell as the Chairman of the Corporation, whose hair has experienced its own apocalypse.

In Corman's film, "the United States of America has become the United Corporations of America,” Corman said. "The president is now the chairman of the board of the United Corporations. He is a flamboyant, wild-talking person, entertaining and nevertheless holding strong to his dictatorial position. That’s not exactly what is happening, but is a possible future route.”

Scalpers taking losses on tickets to Trump inauguration as interest wanes.

Donald Trump will take office as one of the most unpopular President-elects in recent history — and even scalpers are feeling the pain.

Some flippers, who acquired tickets to Trump's inauguration with the intent of reselling them on the secondary market, are striking out in their efforts to peddle them and are now looking at some relatively "yuge" losses.

Yossi Rosenberg, 36, of upper Manhattan, told the Daily News he bought a pair of tickets to Friday's Washington, D.C. event from a woman in Westchester County for $700, thinking he could flip them for at least twice as much.

But nobody's biting.

"Nobody wants to buy them," Rosenberg told The News. "It looks like I'm stuck with them, I might even have to go."

Rosenberg, who works in software sales, said he occasionally scalps tickets to make a little extra dough and figured, given the wealth of some of Trump's prominent Republican supporters, he'd receive some interest.

Trump and the Republicans galvanizing support for Obamacare.

“President-elect Donald Trump and congressional Republicans appear to have accomplished a feat that President Obama, with all the power at his disposal, could not in the past seven years: They have galvanized outspoken support for the Affordable Care Act,” the New York Times reports.

“People who benefit from the law are flooding Congress with testimonials. Angry consumers are confronting Republican lawmakers. And Democrats who saw the law as a political liability in recent elections have suddenly found their voice, proudly defending the law now that it is in trouble.”

Trump cites scheduling issues and cancels MLK Day tour of civil rights museum featuring John Lewis

Donald Trump’s transition team said on Sunday that the president-elect has canceled a Martin Luther King Jr. Day visit to the Smithsonian Museum of African American History and Culture which features civil rights icon Rep. John Lewis (D-GA)

According to ABC News, sources on the Trump transition team said that “the visit was removed from his calendar due to scheduling issues and was not fully planned out.”

Lewis first introduced legislation to create the museum in 1988. After fighting for over a decade, Lewis and his bipartisan co-sponsors were finally successful in passing a bill to fund the museum in 2001.

The museum prominently features Lewis’ contributions to the Civil Rights movement, including his historic “Blood Sunday” march from Selma to Montgomery in 1965.

The decision to cancel the museum visit comes after Lewis questioned the legitimacy of Trump’s presidency due to Russian interference in the U.S. election. Trump fired back on Twitter, accusing Lewis of not taking enough “action” to help his constituents.

STAR WARS Icon Mark Hamill Continues To Send Up PEOTUS Donald Trump In The Style Of The Joker

Mark Hamill recently shared a reading of Donald Trump's new year's Tweet in the style of his animated take on The Joker, and it proved to be so popular that he promised there'd be more to come.

Sure enough, the Star Wars: Episode VIII actor was as good as his word, and now we have the Clown Prince of Crime's version of Trump's rather predictable response to Meryl Streep's scathing indictment of the PEOTUS at the Golden Globes.

Have a listen below, and whatever your feelings on this may be, please keep it civil in the comments.

Am I the ONLY one man enough to confront this #OverratedFlunkyLoser without resorting to an ad hominem assault? https://t.co/ac2j2KGryn pic.twitter.com/iH1XnPgOzm

Controversial Wrestler Jimmy Superfly Snuka Dead at 73

Professional wrestler Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka died Sunday, only a few days after he was acquitted for the 1983 murder of his mistress. He was 73 and had been battling cancer.

Dwayne Johnson, the actor and former wrestler known as "The Rock," shared the news on behalf of Snuka's family on Twitter.

Once a legendary villain of the World Wrestling Federation who transformed into a hero character, Snuka used jeering audiences, acrobatic leaps and his famed "Superfly Splash" to rise to stardom during the wrestling craze of the 1980s.

Born James Reiher, Snuka grew up in Hawaii and became a professional wrestler in the 1970s. He made his first WWF appearance in 1982, when the organization was just hitting its stride as a ratings juggernaut.

"Snuka is regarded by many as the pioneer of high-flying offense because of his Superfly Splash from the top turnbuckle," WWE, formerly known as the WWF, said in a statment. "His dive off the top of the steel cage onto Don Muraco at Madison Square Garden as hundreds of flash bulbs went off will forever live as one of the most memorable moments in WWE history."
