Bill Maher asks "If Bernie doesn’t get the nomination, who will stay home and not vote for Hillary?"

Bill Maher wants to make sure supporters of Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) vote for the eventual Democratic presidential nominee -- even if it turns out to be Hillary Clinton.

It’s as easy as eating an airplane meal with chicken when they are all out of fish, he said Friday on HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher.”

Before sitting down to interview Sanders, Maher polled his studio audience to see how many of them supported Sanders and how many preferred Hillary Clinton.

Not surprisingly, Maher’s progressive audience members were feeling the Bern. Far more of them cheered when asked if they were backing Sanders than when asked if they were supporting Clinton.

“But if Bernie doesn’t get the nomination, who will stay home and not vote for [Hillary]?” Maher asked. Only one person clapped faintly to indicate she would not vote for the eventual Democratic nominee if it is Clinton.

Maher was pleased.

“See exactly,” he exclaimed. “We have two good candidates. It’s like on the airlines: Sometimes you don’t get the fish, you have the chicken. ‘I’ll eat the chicken if I have to!’”

McCarthy rumors follow Ellmers to North Carolina

INEHURST, N.C. — The fallout from Kevin McCarthy’s surprise withdrawal from the speaker’s race has hit home for North Carolina Rep. Renee Ellmers, the subject of unsubstantiated rumors of an extramarital affair with McCarthy that were fueled, in a large part, by Rep. Walter Jones, a fellow Tar Heel State Republican.

Ellmers and Jones have been enmeshed in an ideological battle between grassroots conservatives and the GOP establishment in North Carolina, one that mirrors the one going on in Washington. Both are facing serious primary challenges for the second straight election — Jones from a foreign policy hawk, Ellmers from the right — and that was before Jones issued his now-infamous letter calling on any candidate for House leadership who committed “misdeeds” to “withdraw” from the race.

Though he initially denied any such intent, Jones acknowledged having heard rumors of an extramarital affair between Ellmers and McCarthy, confirming to POLITICO that it was “a factor” in his decision to go public with the letter, he said. Ellmers has denied the allegations and asked for "prayers and support" from House colleagues. She told a local morning radio show that the allegations show the "very ugly side of politics."

During last week’s recess, while voters were buzzing about the turmoil on Capitol Hill, Jones campaigned while Ellmers held few events, attended a fundraiser and lay low. She barred further questions from the local news media about the allegations.

Canada: Liberal leader Justin Trudeau rallies support in Edmonton on last day of campaign

The longest federal election campaign since 1872 is about to come to close, and if the attention Edmonton has been getting from the party leaders is any indication, the city is a key battleground in the tight race.

In Edmonton Sunday morning, Liberal leader Justin Trudeau urged voters to be sure to vote Monday and help others do the same if they want a change in government.

“We’re not there yet. I need you,” he told a raucous crowd of more than 1,200 supporters at the Maharaja Banquet Hall in the hotly contested Edmonton Mill Woods riding. Liberal Amarjeet Sohi is attempting to knock off Conservative incumbent Tim Uppal in the south Edmonton riding.

“Go knock doors, make phone calls, get out there and talk with your neighbours and your family and your friends. Offer them a ride to the polls, offer to babysit their kids so they can get out and vote. Make sure that no vote and no voter gets left behind,”

“Help us defeat Stephen Harper,” he said, his voice hoarse from the strain of an 11-week campaign. Edmonton was the first of several campaign stops on the last day, with Trudeau rallying support in Calgary later in the day.

People began arriving at 6:30 a.m. to attend the 8 a.m. rally.

Canada: Liberals poised for win barring Conservative surprise

After 78 days, it all comes down to tomorrow. And the polls, at least, suggest that the day will go to the Liberals, installing Justin Trudeau as Canada's next prime minister.

Up to and including those published by early Sunday morning, the Liberals have led in 17 consecutive polls, including surveys conducted by eight different polling firms using an array of methodologies.

The polls of all but one of those firms put the gap between the Liberals and the Conservatives outside the margin of error. And every poll has the New Democrats in third, trailing the Conservatives by between seven and 12 points and the Liberals by between 12 and 17 points.

The CBC Poll Tracker, which will be updated throughout the day Sunday as new polls are published, has awarded the Liberals a lead in the polling average and in the average seat projection since Oct. 7. The Liberals' likely high range of seats has also outpaced the Conservatives' high range for the last week, as Trudeau's party moved ahead in Ontario and subdued the advantage the Tories had in vote efficiency.

The gap that exists between the Liberals and Conservatives in the Poll Tracker is not wide enough to give the Liberals a high probability of reaching the 170-seat mark required for a majority government. It is also not wide enough to rule out the possibility the Conservatives could eke out more seats than the Liberals nationwide.

New poll shows Liberal support rising in Alberta's big cities, though Tories lead

Alberta remains a bastion of strength for the federal Conservatives, but growing support for the Liberals could potentially help the party pick up seats in the province in Monday’s federal election, according to a new poll.

A Mainstreet poll conducted for Postmedia shows Stephen Harper’s Conservatives with 57 per cent support among leaning and decided voters in Alberta, compared to 26 per cent for Justin Trudeau’s Liberals, 13 per cent for Tom Mulcair’s NDP and four per cent for Elizabeth May’s Greens.

Mainstreet’s David Valentin said the Tories have an immense lead outside the province’s two largest cities, but the gap narrows significantly in Edmonton and Calgary.

While the Liberals could gain seats in each city, the NDP’s relative strength in Edmonton — despite its low overall support in the entire province — means it could add seats in the capital as well, he said.

Liberal Party of Canada pledges to legalize marijuana.

Several state Democratic parties have endorsed marijuana legalization, but neither the national Republican or Democratic parties have added legalization to their national platforms at this time. In that regard, Canada has advanced past the U.S., as the Liberal Party has added marijuana legalization to its agenda.

From Vice:

I

n an attempt to sweep up the green vote, Liberal leader Justin Trudeau announced this week that if elected, his party will work to legalize marijuana “right away.”

Trudeau has previously said pot prohibition has resulted in 475,000 people with criminal records since the Conservatives came into power in 2006, and criminalization of the drug costs the justice system $500 million a year. But until now, the Liberal leader has kept relatively quiet on the issue while on the election trail — even when his political adversaries have taken swipes at him with pot jokes.

S.F. landlords endorse a politician who wants to expand rent control.

Former Board of Supervisors president Aaron Peskin has an appealing political cry for the District 3 residents he wants to represent again: Let’s expand rent control to apartment buildings constructed after 1979.

It’s a far-fetched call that would require unlikely amendments to state law. Forty-six percent of the city’s housing stock is rent controlled apartments, although that number is dwindling. Peskin wants more, he told me.

“San Francisco can’t do this alone… But in terms of people and their lives, extending rent control beyond 1979 is overdue and I’d like to at least start that conversation,” he said.

(His opponent, Julie Christensen, has derided it as a political ploy. “It’s a nice thing to say when you are trying to get tenants to vote for you,” she said.)

Still, it makes one of his latest endorsements in the North Beach-Chinatown race a surprise. The political action committee that represents the San Francisco Apartment Association, a membership group of rental building owners and property managers, voted to endorse Peskin. It's especially surprising given that Peskin and the association have been at odds on nearly every real estate issue that's come before the city for many years.

Trudeau starts campaign blitz as new poll suggests Canadians want change

Justin Trudeau has launched a two-day, six-province campaign blitz to mobilize his supporters ahead of election day, as a new poll suggests a growing number of Canadians feel that it’s the right time to change government.

The Liberal Leader urged his supporters to ensure that “no voter is left behind” as part of the ground game on Monday, arguing their Conservative rivals cannot be trusted to play fair on Oct. 19.

“This is going to be a very close election, and as we all know, [Conservative Leader Stephen] Harper still has tricks up his sleeve,” Mr. Trudeau said at a rally with his New Brunswick candidates in Saint John. “Be sure to vote Monday, help us defeat Stephen Harper.”

A new Globe and Mail/CTV/Nanos Research poll has found that the proportion of Canadians who thinks it is “time for a change” has risen to 71 per cent, up five points since July. The election was called on Aug. 2.

It's Official: Star Wars: The Force Awakens tickets go on sale Monday.

Following what looks to be an ESPN confirmation about the new Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer for Monday, now the Fandango website has confirmed tickets will go on sale Monday as well.

A user on Reddit snapped the above screenshot which states "Tickets for Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens 3 An IMAX Experience will be available for purchase on Monday, October 19, 2015, at 7pm PST/10pm ET."

The time the tickets go on sale seems to corroborate the ESPN trailer news as Monday Night Football kicks off at 8:30pm ET with the Giants vs the Eagles.

Update: Various movie theaters are reporting Star Wars: The Force Awakens tickets may go on sale as early as Monday afternoon.
