3 Black Churches Have Burned in 10 Days in a Single Louisiana Parish

ATLANTA — Three historically black churches have burned in less than two weeks in one south Louisiana parish, where officials said they had found “suspicious elements” in each case. The officials have not ruled out the possibility of arson, or the possibility that the fires are related.

“There is clearly something happening in this community,” State Fire Marshal H. Browning said in a statement on Thursday. “That is why it is imperative that the citizens of this community be part of our effort to figure out what it is.”

The three fires occurred on March 26, Tuesday and Thursday in St. Landry Parish, north of Lafayette. A fourth fire, a small blaze that officials said was “intentionally set,” was reported on Sunday at a predominantly black church in Caddo Parish, about a three-hour drive north.

“But just as we haven’t connected the three in St. Landry, we haven’t connected the one in Caddo,” said Ashley Rodrigue, a spokeswoman for the Louisiana Office of State Fire Marshal, on Friday.

'Captain Marvel' makes history as it tops $1 billion worldwide

Captain Marvel has topped $1 billion at the worldwide box office. The movie currently stands at $358M domestic and $645M international. It is an impressive feat regardless of the circumstances, but the 21st Marvel Studios film has reached this milestone in unprecedented fashion.

Captain Marvel is the tenth superhero-based movie to amass $1 billion in global receipts. It is the first, however, to do so without being a sequel or team-up, or featuring a character that has previously appeared in another film (showing just her logo on a pager in the Avengers: Infinity War post-credits scene doesn’t count).

Six Marvel Studios films have reached this milestone before, but they are all sequels or team-ups with the exception of Black Panther. The title character of that film, however, was featured prominently in Captain America: Civil War.

Warner Bros. has released three DC-based movies that surpassed $1 billion. The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises were sequels while Aquaman starred a character with a cameo in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and a much more significant appearance in Justice League.

Dad (Guess the skin color) arrested after speeding to get choking daughter to the hospital.

A group of nurses in Illinois paid the bail for a father who was arrested after breaking traffic laws as he rushed to get his daughter to the hospital.

The man, who did not have a valid driver's license, was speeding to the hospital because his 1-year-old daughter was choking on a penny, according to St. Louis Fox affiliate Fox2Now.

He said police officers, with their sirens wailing, were chasing behind him by the time he got to the hospital.

"First thing on my mind was getting her to the hospital," the dad told the TV station, according to the video clip. "That's my daughter."

The father said he was told by the police he was driving more than 100 miles per hour and he and his wife were ordered to get out of the car when they got to the hospital.

"I got out, put my hands up, and I yelled and told the police my baby is choking," the mother told Fox2Now.

The father was then arrested and taken to jail.

The Only Thing Going Right for Tech Companies Is the Stock Market

oups to put last year’s carnage behind them. But everywhere else you look in the industry, bad news is overwhelming the good.

Profits are shrinking at an alarming pace, valuations are reflating and politicians want to break the companies up. Semiconductor orders have slumped, and spending on infrastructure to support the cloud is off. And yet the addiction won’t break. Shares are up more than 30 percent since Christmas.

It’s a familiar sight to anyone who’s been watching the broader U.S. stock market, which just posted its best quarter in 10 years even as earnings estimates slid. However grim things look, too much money has been lost by sitting out. Mike Wilson, the chief U.S. equity strategist at Morgan Stanley, says groupthink is taking over, a force that while capable of provoking powerful rallies, usually precedes a cycle’s peak.

“I can’t remember a time in my career when institutional investors have been so preoccupied with what everyone else is doing,” said Wilson, who advised investors to avoid tech stocks. “When investors are more focused on what everyone else is doing, rather than what the fundamentals are doing, it’s probably the end of a trend.”

'Avengers: Endgame' Tickets Bids Are Nearing $10,000 on eBay

Avengers: Endgame tickets went on pre-sale Tuesday morning, but Marvel fans hoping to score their admission to the most-eagerly anticipated film this year quickly ran into snags. Overwhelming demand for the tickets -- especially for popular theater locations across the country -- led to all sorts of issues with online purchase. Some of those lucky enough to score coveted tickets quickly went online to list those prime seats on eBay, and now those tickets are going for an insane rate.

A listing on eBay for two tickets to Endgame for an April 28th showing at AMC's 84th Street 6 Theater in New York City are currently sitting at a high bid of $9,199. That's right, almost 10 grand for two tickets, and it's not even for an opening-night showing! While these tickets are the most expensive, we've seen -- and yes, there is one actual bid on these tickets, so someone is likely going to end up buying them when the auction ends -- there are several pricey tickets on the auction site. Another two-ticket listing for an AMC in West Orange, New Jersey on opening afternoon is currently listed for $2,500, though there are no bids yet. Other listings, of which there are many, range between $50 and $250 for a single ticket.

While many of these listings are likely by people who bought tickets for themselves and then saw a lucrative secondary market opportunity, some of the listings appear to be from people who purchased with the intent to resell. There's at least one seller offering up four individual tickets for different showings at one theater at $100 a pop. That's pretty intense.

Of course, these listings all come from demand for tickets so it should come as no surprise that Endgame is officially the top-selling pre-sale title for Fandango, selling more tickets in its first day of ticket sales than any other movie, including 2015's Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Paul Ryan says Ocasio-Cortez didn't really listen 'to a thing I said' when he offered her advice

Former Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) said Tuesday that he doesn't believe freshman Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) listened much to the advice he gave her about being one of the youngest members of the House.

In an interview Tuesday night at the annual dinner for Forward Jainesville, a community organization based in his hometown, Ryan quipped that he thought Ocasio-Cortez had ignored his advice while revealing that he had met the New York congresswoman after her election victory last year.

"I talked to her, AOC - everybody calls her AOC ... She's the youngest person now there. I gave her just a few little tips on just being a good member of Congress, new. I don't think she really listened to a thing I said," Ryan said, to laughter from the audience.

"Take it easy, just watch things for a while, don't ruffle any - see how it works first," he added of the advice he gave to Ocasio-Cortez.
