Steve Bannon SWATted tonight.

Heavily armed police on Friday swarmed around the Capitol Hill rowhouse where former Trump White House adviser Stephen K. Bannon lives after receiving a false report that a man with a gun was inside and had shot someone, according to authorities.

Police shut down streets near the Supreme Court and the Capitol for about one hour, prompting fears of an active shooter. About 12:30 p.m., police reopened the streets after determining that there was no shooting, no weapon, no threat and no victim.

Police initially told The Washington Post that they had encountered a person who claimed to be armed and who appeared to be suffering from a mental health crisis, but they found no gun and no one injured. A D.C. police spokeswoman later said someone had called a crisis hotline and reported that a man inside the rowhouse in the 200 block of A Street NE had shot someone and had a firearm.

The spokeswoman said that call appears to have been a “swatting” attempt, a practice in which someone calls in a false report of an emergency or a crisis to draw police to a particular address or person.

Efforts to reach Bannon and his attorneys were not immediately successful Friday afternoon, and police said they did not know if the person who called the hotline knew it was Bannon’s residence. The call did not come from Bannon’s home, though the caller pointed police to Bannon’s address, officials said.

Gun control initiative submits signatures, poised to be second on Oregon's November ballot

Backers of an initiative petition that would ban gun magazines of more than 10 rounds and require an individual interested in purchasing a firearm to get a permit on Friday turned in more than 160,000 signatures in support, likely paving the way for Oregonians to vote on the measure this fall.

If the Secretary of State's Office verifies at least 112,020 valid signatures for Initiative Petition 17, it will represent the culmination of four years of work by Lift Every Voice Oregon to get a gun control proposal on the ballot for Oregonians to consider.

“I hope it shows how residents in a state can come together from many directions and address the public health crisis of gun violence with common sense and well-put-together legislation," said the Rev. Mark Knutson, chief petitioner and pastor at Augustana Lutheran Church in Portland. "I hope that people are inspired to say: We can do this."

Faith-based coalition Lift Every Voice Oregon came into being in the aftermath of the 2018 mass shooting at Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, and has been pursuing gun control measures via initiative petition and legislative action ever since.

Their first effort for the 2018 general election ballot started too late to gather the needed signatures. Their campaign for 2020 was derailed by the coronavirus pandemic. Bills in the Legislature also went nowhere.

Ms. Marvel Aisha star on bringing an "important part of history" into the MCU (SPOILERS)

Warning: this article contains spoilers for Ms. Marvel episode 5. Turn back now if you have not seen the latest installment in the MCU series.

The fifth episode of Ms. Marvel solves the mystery of Kamala Khan’s great-grandmother Aisha. We first met Kamala Khan's great-grandmother in a flashback earlier in the season, but the new episode sees her on the run from the ClanDestine, falling in love with a man named Hasan (Fawad Khan), and having a daughter.

Unfortunately, the family is soon forced to flee, and Aisha ends up being killed by the villainous Najma, while Kamala's transported back in time to help her grandmother using her powers and forming a "trail of stars". We may have heard this story before in the series – but now we know the truth behind it.

Aisha's story is a beautiful departure from everything else we've seen so far, and Total Film caught up with Mehwish Hayat, who plays Kamala's ancestor, to discuss her compelling story and being part of the MCU. "The experience itself was magical for me being Aisha and being, as a Pakistani actress, launched on such a global platform," she tells us. "It’s Marvel, it doesn't get any better than that."

Richmond Police Thwart July 4 Mass Shooting At Dogwood Dell

RICHMOND, VA — Richmond police stopped what could have been a deadly mass shooting on July 4 thanks to a tip from a "hero citizen" that led to two arrests and the seizure of multiple firearms, authorities said Wednesday.

At a news conference Wednesday, Richmond Police Chief Gerald Smith confirmed the arrests of two people who were planning a mass shooting at Richmond's Fourth of July celebration at Dogwood Dell. The Diamond was also among possible targets, Smith said.

According to Smith, police learned about the planned attack on July 1 when a tipster called authorities after overhearing a conversation about a possible mass shooting.

Richmond police publicized the thwarted shooting just two days after a gunman killed seven people and injured more than three dozen when he opened fire on a Fourth of July parade from a rooftop in Highland Park, Illinois.
