Warren city councilman arrested after refusing to wear mask inside TCF Center

DETROIT – A Warren city councilman refused to observe Detroit’s rules when it comes to COVID safety and police were not having it.

“I was leaving the TCF Center and saw a commotion. I was exiting and it was a guy standing there arguing with police about whether or not he was refusing to wear a mask basically,” said Wayne County Commissioner Jonathan Kinloch.

Kinloch recorded the incident on his cell phone, sharing it with Local 4.

Kinloch identifies the person as Warren City Councilman Eddie Kabacinski. In the video, Kabacinski refuses to wear his mask inside the TCF Center.

“More specifically, it’s a vaccination site. So it is mandated and of course the officers were trying to explain that to the councilman, but he refused to even recognize that,” Kinloch said.

NV-GOV: Embroiled in controversies, Michele Fiore announces run for governor

Las Vegas Councilwoman Michele Fiore said Tuesday she will seek the Republican nomination for governor, casting herself as a champion for conservative values amid a cascade of controversies that figure to be election cycle targets.

“Most of you know me as a fighter,” Fiore said during a brief news conference inside the Italian American Club restaurant. “And when I fight, I fight hard.”

Fiore, whose announcement was largely a surprise, has long leaned into her reputation as an anti-establishment lawmaker with a penchant for drawing national attention.

She was front and center during the Bundy standoff in Oregon. She posed with firearm-toting family members for a Christmas card and distributed it as a gift to constituents. She cursed at a GOP colleague on the Assembly floor. And she gave out calendars featuring her posing with all manner of firearms.

Madonna University coaches suspended amid allegations of inappropriate behavior

LIVONIA, Mich. – Madonna University has an ongoing investigation into two coaches who have been accused of inappropriate behavior by student athletes.

Women’s volleyball head coach Jerry Abraham and assistant coach Brian McClain have been placed on paid leave.

A statement from Madonna University President Michael Grandillo reads:

“Protecting the health and safety of our students is the first priority of our University - guided by our Franciscan values, which include respect for all people.

“During the week of October 4th, our Athletic Department received complaints from student-athletes detailing allegations of inappropriate behavior involving two women’s volleyball coaches. This led to the paid suspension of both the head coach, Jerry Abraham, and an assistant coach, Brian McClain. The rest of the staff is currently leading that team through practices and games.

“In the days since, after designated University officials met with members of the coaching staff and team, the Athletic Department has received other complaints from both staff members and students from the volleyball team as well as our women’s softball program. Jerry Abraham is also the head coach of the softball team. Other coaches will lead the softball team activities.

“We are taking these complaints seriously and following all legal requirements for documentation. In addition, the complaints will be promptly turned over to a team of independent investigators to determine the facts before the University takes any further action.”

Los Gatos (Ca): Fascists gather in front of mayor, vice mayor's homes during virtual council meeting

LOS GATOS – A group of protesters who disrupted a Town Council meeting earlier this month gathered outside the homes of Mayor Marico Sayoc and Vice Mayor Rob Rennie during Tuesday evening’s virtual council meeting, Rennie announced during the session.

Over the last year, the small faction of residents has spoken out at council meetings – and more recently in front of the mayor’s home – against critical race theory, Black Lives Matter and members of the LGBTQ community. Tensions boiled over at the Oct. 5 in-person council meeting when the protesters lodged personal attacks against Sayoc’s family, prompting a shouting exchange between them and the mayor’s husband, Jeffrey Scott.

One of the protesters at the meeting, Cyndi Sheehan, subsequently filed a temporary restraining order in Santa Clara County Superior Court against Scott, who she alleged threatened to kill her. The order was granted on Oct. 14.

After police closed down the council chambers at that meeting and sent everyone home, the council decided to hold future meetings on Zoom. So instead of the council chambers, the protesters showed up outside the homes of Sayoc and Rennie’s on Tuesday night.

New York employers can't drug test most employees for weed

ccording to that new guidance, employers must cite “articulable symptoms of impairment” in almost any effort to take action against an employee due to marijuana use. That means an employer must provide “objectively observable” evidence that the employee’s job performance—or overall workplace safety— is negatively impacted by marijuana use.

“Observable signs of use that do not indicate impairment on their own cannot be cited as an articulable symptom of impairment,” the guidance states. Employers may prohibit marijuana use during work hours, including meal, break, and on-call periods. They may also prohibit marijuana possession on or in company property.

The guidance states that employers may not drug test employees for cannabis unless federal or state law requires drug testing as a condition of the position. The employer is not legally allowed to require drug testing outside such a mandate.

Employers are similarly unable to prohibit marijuana use outside the workplace. Policies banning marijuana use as a condition of employment—unless mandated on a state or federal level—are not permitted, even if they were in place before cannabis use was legalized in New York. The guidance notes that employers are not legally required to take any action at all if employees use cannabis on the job, even if those employees are under the legal age of 21.
