Yale Historian Warns It's "Inevitable" That Trump Will Stage His Own "Reichstag Fire"

"Yale Historian Warns That It's 'Inevitable' That Trump Will Stage His Own 'Reichstag Fire' To Save His Presidency"

Yale University Professor Timothy Snyder's recent book focusing "On Tyranny" not only puts President Donald Trump in context with other 1930s fascists, but it walks readers through steps for the resistance to maintain freedom.

In a recent interview for Chauncey DeVega's podcast, Snyder explained that Americans assumed nothing bad would ever happen since the Cold War ended.

Trump managed to tap into the idea that the U.S. isn't a democracy anymore so people should simply let him be their very own oligarch.

But because Americans tend to throw around terms like "fascist" "dictator" and "Hitler,"
the idea loses it's meaning.
Add to that, Americans tend to believe in our own exceptionalism.

"As I see it, there are certainly elements of his approach which are fascistic," Snyder explained.
"The straight-on confrontation with the truth is at the center of the fascist worldview."

Fascists during the 20th century were quick to urge putting aside the facts.
They also tend to use language similar to Trump's during his rallies.
They name enemies, remove opponents and use blunt slogans and soundbites over and over again.

"Anti-Trump Power Building" in the States

Progressive Change Campaign Committee
April 30, 2017

POLITICO reports that the Progressive Change Campaign Committee (PCCC) sees the 2017 elections as a "proving ground for anti-Trump power building," and that we see a "Donald Trump backlash inspiring candidates from the ground up."
That's true...Great people are deciding to run for office for the first time, and they need help.

We have a plan to elect hundreds of future Elizabeth Warrens in 2017, 2018 and 2020 - all across the nation.

Here's POLITICO's report on our plan to build the progressive bench in the states:
"The Progressive Change Campaign Committee, a Washington-based PAC, sees New Jersey's down-ballot races this year as a proving ground for running candidates with the type of economic populist platform embraced by Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren, and as preparation for running competitive congressional races next year.
The group is trying to transform Democratic politics from the inside.
The PCCC held a training session on April 8 for 45 candidates...and plans to conduct a statewide poll soon 'to benefit the candidates who came to our training so they feel confident running on these Elizabeth Warren type of issues.'"

Time Magazine previously covered the PCCC's "quest to create hundreds of Elizabeth Warrens" through training and resources.
(Breitbart News will likely cover this as a wild conspiracy)

BREAKING: Republicans won't vote on ObamaCare repeal bill this week

The Hill
April 27, 2017
10:30 PM EDT

House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) confirmed Thursday night that GOP leadership will not bring a revised ObamaCare repeal bill to the floor this week.

White House officials have been pushing for a vote by President Trump's 100th day in office on Saturday, but it was clear Thursday night that the 216 GOP votes needed to pass the healthcare bill had not materialized.

"We are not voting on healthcare tomorrow or Saturday," McCarthy told reporters after a nearly
two-hour meeting in Speaker Paul Ryan's (R-WI) office in the capital.

New ObamaCare Repeal Bill on Life Support

The Hill
April 27, 2017
5:14 PM EDT

The tide is quickly turning against the new ObamaCare repeal legislation.

At least 21 Republicans have said they would vote No on the revised GOP healthcare bill negotiated by centrist Rep. Tom MacArthur (R-N.J.) and conservative Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.)

Those "no" votes include Reps. Patrick Meehan (R-PA), Ryan Coatello (R-PA), Barbara Comstock (R-VA), Jaime Herrera Beutler (R-WA), and John Katko (R-N.Y.), all centrists who had reservations about the earlier ObamaCare repeal bill that was pulled from a floor vote because of a lack of GOP support.

On top of that, a trio of usually reliable Republicans - Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Ed Royce (R-CA), Adam Kinzinger (R-Illinois), and Mario Diaz-Balart (R-FLA) told The Hill that they were undecided on the new bill after saying they were yes votes on the earlier legislation.

"I'm absolutely undecided," Diaz-Balart, a member of the GOP whip team told the Hill.
"I was a yes before; but there are a lot of red flags" with the revised bill.

The Suwalki Gap - the potential European flashpoint Vladimir Putin is keeping a close eye on

News.com.au
April 24, 2017

It's one of the most peaceful corners of Europe.
Quiet country roads lead through immaculate towns, skim past lakes and wind their way around virginal forests dotted with oak and spruce.

But defense watchers say this thin strip of land, fully within the European Union, could be a flashpoint of future military action between Russia and the US.

A strategic affairs analyst has even raised the prospect that an emboldened Russia, intent on pushing the Washington-led NATO military alliance away from it's territory, could drop a nuclear bomb on the isolated sliver of land.

Known as the "Suwalki Gap," this 80 km. patch of relatively flat, difficult to defend countryside, straddles Poland and Lithuania.

It's the only land connection between the Baltic states of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia - all of which are in the EU and NATO - and their European allies.

On either end of the Suwalki Gap is Putin.
To the west the Russian enclave of Kaliningrad, stuffed to the gills with nuclear missiles, and to the east Moscow's close ally Belarus.

It's a nightmare pinchpoint for NATO and it's Baltic partners.

Dedicated to all the March For Science protesters: "It Isn't Nice" by Malvina Reynolds

It isn't nice to block the doorway,
It isn't nice to go to jail,
There are nicer ways to do it,
But the nice ways always fail.
It isn't nice, it isn't nice,
You told us once, you told us twice,
But if that is Freedom's price,
We don't mind.

It isn't nice to carry banners,
Or to sit in on the floor,
Or to shout our cry of Freedom,
At the hotel and the store.
It isn't nice, it isn't nice,
You told us once, you told us twice,
But if that is Freedom's price,
We don't mind.

WE have tried negotiations
And the three-man-picket line,
Mr Charlie didn't see us
And he might as well be blind.
Now our new ways aren't nice
When we deal with men of ice,
But if that is Freedom's price,
We don't mind.
