leftieNanner's JournalMy LTE Regarding TSF's "leave it up to the states" Comments
Our normally very sensible and smart Seattle Times printed Maggie Haberman's NYT article about Smelvis's comments on abortion. I called them out. See below.
Today's (4/9/24) front page NYT story regarding the former President's remarks on reproductive rights was disingenuous at best and dishonest at worst. The headline sounds so benign. Just leave it up to the states. Implied in those remarks, though, is that he is A-OK fine with the complete bans currently in effect in many states. He doesn't have any problem with women dying of sepsis or losing their ability to bear future children. He thinks that 10 year old girls should be forced to carry their rapist's baby. He thinks it's his business and that of other legislators to interfere in women's healthcare decisions. He thinks that today's Arizona ruling that reinstates a century-old law that criminalizes all abortion care for women, their doctors, and anyone who assists in that process (UBER driver?) should stand.
Why don't you put that story on your front page?

May I suggest that you write something similar to your local newspaper?
Maestro is fantastic!
Great movie about Leonard Bernstein. I sang the Chichester Psalms in college. The music is fabulous (of course) and Bradley Cooper is remarkable. I didn't know much about his life.
OMG Lawrence!
Brett Kavanaugh wrote a paper 25 years ago saying a President can be indicted after leaving office.

Great day to get this news - I have high cholesterol
Finally got myself up early to go in for fasting blood work on Tuesday. Got the results in an email this morning. Cholesterol is 256! I've been borderline before, but this is awful.
Doctor wants to put me on drugs (probably a statin) and I'm reluctant - perhaps because this certifies that I am old if I have to take a pill every day.
Any cholesterol buddies out there in DU land? Any thoughts about increasing exercise and fixing diet being enough?
Saw The Holdovers last weekend
It's wonderful. I see very few movies these days because they are all so disturbing.
Paul Giamatti is incredible. Many Oscar noms here.
Saw Rachel Maddow Last Night!
She is an absolute rock star! We got there early enough (in the rain - Seattle, of course) that we were in the fifth row center. THAT CLOSE to her brilliant mind. The event lasted 90 minutes and I was enthralled every single second. She is brilliant, thoughtful, self-deprecating, and funny.
We are lucky to have her wit and wisdom on our side. The crowd was 100% on her team - nobody disrupted.
Her final comments were for all of us to stay engaged, read, and connect with family and friends to keep them informed and engaged also. VOTE! And find another way to participate - be a poll worker, connect with Indivisible, get folks registered to vote.
I received a copy of her new book Prequel along with the registration for the event. I'll check in later after I've read it.
I Heard Back from an Agent!!!
I have written a Contemporary Middle Grade Novel and, after several rewrites, it's been sent out into the agent stratosphere.
This morning I got a response from my query to send the full manuscript.
Crossing fingers that she likes it as much as my daughers and friends do.
