Woman helps girl, 12, elude abductor: 'She didn't have to do what she did' - Chicago Tribune
Ms. Brewer is a brave woman. We need more. But, what really struck me about this story is Reniah's words, "She didn't have to do what she did." It made me sad and I couldn't figure out why. I thought about it and all I can come up with is, this young lady has already become jaded. She doesn't expect kindness from strangers. No, Ms. Brewer didn't have to do what she did. Keeping that young lady safe was the best part, but something else happened. That young lady got a glimpse of what humanity should be. Maybe that little glimpse will make her hungry for more. I'm so glad she's safe.

Damn, DU is ugly today.
Glad I was too busy at work to pay much attention.
I'm going home in 1 hour and 4 minutes. I plan on relaxing, not reading DU or any other newsish sort of stuff, playing some computer games, trying a new salmon recipe with avocado sauce, playing with my cats, having a conversation with the husband, and then going to sleep.
Icky, crappy day all around. Plus, I miss my son and DIL. This is going to be a lot tougher than I thought.
How can I find a good arts/crafts book...
...in Japanese. And, how do I know if it's good if I don't read/speak Japanese? I've been trying to figure this out for a few years and I'm actually semi desperate, now.
Nothing 'typical'. It's for my DIL and she loves working with odds and ends. Very talented and artistic, but not the frilly type of stuff.
They just made the move to MO this weekend and she's a little sad. I'd like to send her something to keep her occupied until they get completely settled.
Did Skinner quit?
It's awfully quiet in AtA. We need to go raid the fridge and booby trap the office. shhhhhhhhh....
Pretending you're not stressed when you're actually maxed out...
...probably isn't good for you.
I need it to be September.
My son and his wife are moving to MO for a job offer.
They're staying with us for this week and leaving on Saturday.
He starts his new job next Monday.
He broke his hand Friday. Will be in a cast for 6 weeks. Doc told him to see an occupational therapist. He'll be getting new insurance with his new job, but is uninsured at the moment.
His new job is a BMW Motorcycle mechanic. He's having a minor meltdown so I've got to pretend everything will be fine. "In 6 months, it won't matter."
He still has to unload and repack the trailer and his truck. Put eye bolts into the trailer to hold up the bike. Then, drive for 2-3 days.
This mother thing is so overrated.
I know others have asked for 'unrec' to come back...
...and you've pretty much said it probably won't happen. I have another idea.
We need a 'LOL' button. Or, possibly, an 'are you freakin' kidding me?' button. When you click on it, it should make cartoon fart noises.
This isn't helping, is it?
Across the street from work...
...at the Pioneer's Home Cemetery. We'll be having two days of funerals. I think this will be the beginning of the healing for the rest of us. I hope the families, friends and our 20th Hot Shot, Brendan McDonough, can begin their healing, as well.

I can't watch "My Cat From Hell" anymore.
I had always hoped I could find the solution to getting my two girls (biological sisters) to get along. Their brother gets along with both just fine.
Saturday morning, all three cats were sleeping in different rooms. I turned on CFH just in time for the evil kitty on the TV to start SCREAMING. It took about 1.5 seconds for all three of my cats to show up in the living room, full fluff mode and ready for battle. I couldn't change the channel fast enough so the TV screaming continued and my kitties went into a panic. They then proceeded to stake out the entire house, guard the back door and look suspiciously at each other...for an hour. They were jumpy for the rest of the day.
They have reacted to dogs barking on the TV, but only out of curiosity. Never full blown freak out.
