I agree about the smokescreen to hide what was going on behind the scenes.

I was really depressed about the idea of anyone pressuring Joe to step down, but also confused, as more and more people whose judgment I respect greatly (like Pelosi) seemed to be joining the chorus.

During that time, I mostly stayed out of the threads where people were expressing anger about it. My feelings were so conflicted that I wasn't comfortable expressing an opinion about things. I was just too torn between feeling loyal to Joe and wondering if all those smart Democrats knew something I didn't. I also didn't think Joe would do anything he really didn't want to do.

My heart sank when I first heard he wasn't going to run. But after that, everything happened so fast that the sinking feeling didn't have a chance to last very long. Once I heard Kamala had enough delegates pledged to her to win the nomination, I started getting really excited, and I am thrilled with the way things are going.

I now believe that all those smart Democrats (including Joe) knew exactly what they were doing all allong, and I am grateful for their amazing judgment and ability to get things done!

Who Will Be Kamala Harris's Veep Pick? Here Are the Finalists

According to Vanity Fair, it's down to 3 frontrunners.

Vice President Kamala Harris is slated to pick her running mate by next week—the latest step in the Democratic Party’s newly energized bid to stay in the White House come November.

In the days since President Joe Biden bowed out of the race and endorsed Harris in his stead, the political-pundit class and everyday Americans have been throwing out their guesses for who will join the presumptive Democratic nominee’s historic 2024 ticket. The Harris campaign is expected to announce its VP pick by Tuesday.

*snip*

By the middle of last week, Harris’s team had reportedly requested vetting materials from numerous top Democrats, including Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, Illinois governor J.B. Pritzker, US senator Mark Kelly of Arizona, Pennsylvania governor Josh Shapiro, and Minnesota governor Tim Walz. Michigan governor Gretchen Whitmer and North Carolina governor Roy Cooper were previously under consideration, but both have since bowed out.

While other Democrats beyond this list could theoretically get tapped, three potential candidates are reportedly the current front-runners: Kelly, Shapiro, and Walz.

It's not clear why VF thinks it's down to these 3 guys, but they are a reliable source in my experience, so I'm inclined to take their word for it.

I am fine with whoever Kamala picks, and I would not have a problem with any of this trio. (Although I lean toward Shapiro, just because of the importance of PA.) I'd love to hear thoughts and comments from others about these 3 possibilities, just for fun, while we're all waiting on pins and needles to hear her decision.

Kamala! - A Randy Rainbow Song Parody

This is an oldie but a goody from 2020, but I was today years old when I discovered it - or rather when YouTube suggested it to me this afternoon.

Somebody needs to get Randy to revise the lyrics and make a new version for 2024!

Absolutely.

Many experts believe that imposter syndrome and narcissism are closely linked. On a superficial level, a narcissist may seem super confident, but that is a facade that hides a seething mass of insecurity. That's why narcissists like Trump constantly belittle other people and blame all of their failures on everyone and everything but themselves.

Narcissists live with and are trapped by The Imposter Syndrome. They presume that if they are too honest, if they accept responsibility for their many blunders or miscalculations, it will not go well. Therefore, they cope with their own humanity by denying its severity, focusing instead on the imperfections of the people and systems surrounding them.

Thinking of themselves as clever, they live with the strategy of pretending to be the “together” person they can never become. Pretense becomes their norm, as do lying, keeping secrets, rationalizing, and projection. And the deeper into adulthood they go with this imposter syndrome intact, the more pain they generate…within themselves and toward others.

If you read the article linked above, or watch this accompanying video, I think you'll see a lot that reminds you of you-know-who.

Calling them weird really seems to be getting to them!

Methinks they doth protest too much!

All the consternation over the word "weird" is really ironic, when you consider the insults Trump throws around. He's constantly making up nicknames like Crazy [name], Crooked [name], Sleepy [name], Sloppy [name], Lyin' [name], and on and on.

And let's not forget the ever popular Little [name]. The fact that he's so fond of using "little" as an insult says a lot about him, imo. No, Donald, being taller than someone does not make you smarter or stronger or better in any way whatsoever, and calling people you don't like Little [name] just reveals your own stupidity and pettiness.

So yeah, he flings that crap around ALL the damned time, and then he and his minions get bent out of shape over a word like "weird." Give me a break.

I love the way that word is affecting the denizens of Trump World, and I intend to use it every chance I get, from now on for Trhmp, Vance, and anyone else it fits, starting now:

WEIRD weird weird WEIRD weird WEIRD weird
weird weird WEIRD weird weird WEIRD weird WEIRD WEIRD WEIRD WEIRD WEIRD. So there, you big orange WEIRDO!

"The animals are here to help us if we let them."

I posted this in The Lounge earlier today, but I feel like I really need to share it with this group in particular. I came across this cartoon while checking out the work of an Australian cartoonist that KS Toronado has included in some of his dailycartoon posts. I find it strangely comforting for reasons I can't quite articulate and hope others will as well.

I ran across this cartoon and found it oddly comforting. I hope others will as well!

Thanks to KS Toronado for including First Dog on the Moon cartoons in the daily toon posts, because that's how I was introduced to this cartoonist.

Trump told nephew to let his disabled son die, then move to Florida, book says

Donald Trump told his nephew he should let his disabled son die, then “move down to Florida”, the nephew writes in a new book, calling the comment “appalling”.

*snip*

The shocking exchange is described in All in the Family: The Trumps and How We Got This Way, which will be published next week. The Guardian obtained a copy.

The book also includes a description of the former US president and current Republican nominee using the N-word, news that dropped into a presidential election in which Trump faces Kamala Harris, the first woman of colour to be vice-president.

*snip*

Fred C Trump III is the son of Fred Trump Jr, Donald Trump’s older brother who died aged 43 in 1981. A successful New York real estate executive in his own right, Fred Trump III is with his wife Lisa a campaigner for rights for disabled people like their son, William.

Tom Tomorrow cartoon....and a question....

KSToronado included the following brilliant (as always) Tom Tomorrow toon in today's Tuesday carTOONS collection:

And I have a question:

When the Supreme Court continues to strip away our rights and consolidate its own power as an unaccountable, rogue branch of government....

....at what point is the country in a a constitutional crisis?

Asking for a friend who kinda thinks we may be there.

A meme for the moment

I made this meme today and posted it as a reply in another thread. I've decided to also give it an OP of its own, just because.
