23 May 2016: Even though ratification of the controversial Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) has stalled in the US, President Barack Obama said he’s still “confident” the trade deal will earn the support of Congress.
"I remain confident we are going to get it done, and the reason I’m confident is because it is the right thing to do. It’s good for the country, it’s good for America, it’s good for the region, it’s good for the world," Obama said during a joint press conference with Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang in Hanoi.
Leaders signed the 12-nation TPP, which includes the US and Vietnam as members, back in February, but it still requires ratification from each country’s lawmakers before it can go into effect. That process has stumbled, though, as public outcry against international trade deals increases. In the US in particular, all three major-party presidential candidates have come out against the deal.
In Vietnam, Obama reiterated why he believes the TPP is so important, noting that the Asia-Pacific region is the fastest growing part of the world and represents a huge market for the US. He said the TPP would eliminate some 18,000 tariffs that have been placed on American goods sold in Asia.
"I have not yet seen a credible argument that once we get TPP in place we are going to be worse off,” he said. “We are demonstrably better off. American workers and American businesses are better off if we get this deal passed.”

However, opponents have railed against the TPP from the outset, criticizing the secret, years-long negotiations and arguing that it will primarily benefit large corporations, not workers. Protesters have argued that many of the regulations that would be stripped away would negatively affect laborers and the environment.
“It would make it easier to offshore American jobs, and it would push down their wages by putting them in direct competition with workers in Vietnam who don’t make but 65 cents an hour,” Lori Wallach, the director of Public Citizen’s Global Trade Watch, a non-profit consumer advocacy organization, told RT.

Former Florida senator Bob Graham caused a stir when he used the term “aggressive deception” to describe the FBI’s treatment of 28 pages from a 2003 congressional inquiry into the 9/11 attacks.
The word choice was intentional, the co-chair of the investigation of the 9/11 terrorist attacks told The Daily Beast, because to Graham, what the FBI did was worse than the conventional Washington cover-up.
Former senator Bob Graham is on a mission to get the missing 28 pages from a congressional 9/11 investigation released. His biggest obstacle so far? The FBI.
“Cover-up is a fairly passive action. You put something away and keep it out of the vision of other people who might wish to see it,” Graham explained. “Aggressive deception is where you try to change the narrative in an untruthful way, and then you keep the material that would provide the truth away from the people. So the only thing they see and are exposed to is the false narrative.”

Anti-corporate activists, organic farmers, Indigenous peoples, environmental groups and others took to the streets across six continents and over 400 cities on Saturday in a global grassroots march against bioengineering giant Monsanto.
"The fight against corporate control of our food is global," a food sovereignty campaigner with UK-based nonprofit Global Justice Now rallied the crowd marching in London.

The grassroots March Against Monstanto campaign began in 2013 as a coordinated movement to "take back the food supply."
This year's march takes place amid allegations of collusion and industry rigging of the regulatory processes surrounding the company's toxic weedkiller Roundup and GMO crops in Europe and the United States.
The campaign, based in the U.S., described why so many are fighting the chemical behemoth in a statement:
Monsanto has infiltrated various agencies within the United States government, and as a result both public health and the health of our environment has suffered greatly.
Glyphosate, the cancer-linked herbicide that is an essential component in the expansion of GMO crops, is already being banned around the world over safety concerns. Here in the United States, glyphosate is consistently being discovered in everything from hospital feeding tubes and tampons to the breast milk of nursing mothers
The group also posted a billboard in Times Square this week calling for Monsanto and regulators to "keep GMOs out of our genes."
In France, the pro-democracy Nuit Debout ("Up All Night"
movement took part and joined forces with the March Against Monsanto campaign in Paris, forming a massive demonstration that marched all afternoon through the capital streets.

Bob Graham: 9/11 support goes to the top of Saudi government

Is there a smoking gun in the 28 pages that were redacted from the congressional joint inquiry on intelligence from before and after the 9/11 attacks that links the Saudi Arabian government to the attacks? A co-chair of that inquiry, former Forida Sen. Bob Graham thinks there is one. He also says the link goes all the way to the top of the Saudi government and that the government’s funding of terrorist groups continues to this day.
Graham, who has been advocating for the release of those pages for over a decade, sat down with Yahoo News host Stephanie Sy on “Yahoo News Live” to discuss when that might happen, the Senate’s passage of a bill allowing families of 9/11 victims to sue the Saudi government and what he says are the Saudi government’s continued links to terrorism.
On the 28 pages, he said: “I think [they’re] a smoking gun. I think the linkages are so multiple and strong and reinforcing that it’s hard to come away from reading all this material and not feel that there was a support network and that support network came from Saudi Arabia.”
He said it goes beyond the pages though: “They will also open the path to other materials. There are thousands of pages of documents, which speak to the relationship between Saudi Arabia and the 19 hijackers.” He continued, “Could those 19 people have carried out a plot as complex as 9/11 while maintaining anonymity in some cases for more than a year and a half while they were in the United States without having some support?”...snip

Electricity from seawater: New method efficiently produces hydrogen peroxide for fuel cells

Scientists have used sunlight to turn seawater (H2O) into hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), which can then be used in fuel cells to generate electricity. It is the first photocatalytic method of H2O2 production that achieves a high enough efficiency so that the H2O2 can be used in a fuel cell.
The researchers, led by Shunichi Fukuzumi at Osaka University, have published a paper on the new method of the photocatalytic production of hydrogen peroxide in a recent issue of Nature Communications.

"The most earth-abundant resource, seawater, is utilized to produce a solar fuel that is H2O2," Fukuzumi told Phys.org.
The biggest advantage of using liquid H2O2 instead of gaseous hydrogen (H2), as most fuel cells today use, is that the liquid form is much easier to store at high densities. Typically, H2 gas must be either highly compressed, or in certain cases, cooled to its liquid state at cryogenic temperatures. In contrast, liquid H2O2 can be stored and transported at high densities much more easily and safely...snip

I write this review only to provide some sense of balance, as at the time of writing there is only one other review on here.
I have no particular opinion on whether 9/11 was an inside job or not, neither do I believe in the New World Order or anything else like that. I was attracted to this film by its length and by how its arguments are constructed using publicly-available documentation, news footage, and the arguments of its /detractors/. There are some talking heads in support of the overall argument, but they are kept to a minimum. It is, in a way, an excellent example of the socratic method, whereby simply questioning a person (or organisation, or government) on its stance can cause it to break down and refute itself.
As such, it is a compelling watch. I watched it in two sittings in one day, and I didn't really feel the time. The arguments are carefully chosen, supported and summarised, each one with a single, simple question aimed at the proponents of the official story. Whatever you believe about 9/11, this is an admirably constructed documentary that is very clear in its purpose and demonstrates the kind of research and insight that is only possible in the Internet age, where disparate people of a shared mind can combine their time and resources and produce something way beyond the sum of their parts.
And to be honest, if you watch this you will at least be made aware of the very fluid nature of "truth" in a late-capitalist world, if not entirely swayed to the side of those who question the official 9/11 story. I recommend this to anyone who cares - or thinks they care - about truth, freedom and democracy. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3828916/
India inaugurates one of the world's biggest solar rooftop power plants

The north Indian state of Punjab has inaugurated what it claims is the world's largest rooftop solar power plant. Spread over eight rooftops across 82 acres, it can produce up to 11.5 MW of electricity.
The Rs 1.35 billion project is expected to have significant environmental benefits, reducing 400,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide over the next 25 years. The Punjab government says that the project will generate enough electricity to power 8,000 homes and hopes that it will be a role model for other states to replicate similar rooftop solar plants.

FUKUSHIMA – Tokyo Gov. Yoichi Masuzoe and his Fukushima counterpart, Masao Uchibori, signed an agreement Tuesday on joint research into green ways to produce hydrogen. Fuel made this way will be supplied to Tokyo by the time of the 2020 Olympics.
Hydrogen is regarded as a clean energy source as it produces no carbon dioxide when burned. However, carbon dioxide is emitted during the production process because fossil fuel is burned to provide energy. Wind and solar power will be explored as alternatives.
Speaking to reporters at the Fukushima Prefectural Office, Masuzoe said Tokyo hopes the Olympics will utilize hydrogen produced with Fukushima technology. Uchibori said it would show the world that the region has sprung back following the 2011 disaster...snip

‘Chilling’ memo details Saudi 9/11 link

A US interrogation report detailing the questioning of Saudi diplomats is drawing fresh attention to the alleged role of Saudi Arabia in 9/11 terrorist attacks.
The report, quietly released by the American National Archives over the last 18 months and described by its writers as "chilling," has drawn little public scrutiny until now.
The newly-declassified documents are hoped to help resolve the lingering mystery about what is hidden in a confidential congressional report about ties between Saudi Arabia and the 9/11 attacks.
The files detail US investigators' trip to Saudi Arabia in 2004 and their face-to-face confrontation with some of the Saudis believed to have been linked to the 9/11 hijackers on the American soil.
