The Fermi Paradox remains a stumbling block when it comes to the search for extra-terrestrial intelligence (SETI). Named in honor of the famed physicist Enrico Fermi who first proposed it, this paradox addresses the apparent disparity between the expected probability that intelligent life is plentiful in the Universe, and the apparent lack of evidence of extra-terrestrial intelligence (ETI).

In the decades since Enrico Fermi first posed the question that encapsulates this paradox (“Where is everybody?”), scientists have attempted to explain this disparity one way or another. But in a new study conducted by three famed scholars from the Future of Humanity Institute (FHI) at Oxford University, the paradox is reevaluated in such a way that it makes it seem likely that humanity is alone in the observable Universe.

The study, titled “Dissolving the Fermi Paradox“, recently appeared online. The study was jointly-conducted by Anders Sanberg, a Research Fellow at the Future of Humanity Institute and a Martin Senior Fellow at Oxford University; Eric Drexler, the famed engineer who popularized the concept of nanotechnology; and Tod Ord, the famous Australian moral philosopher at Oxford University.

In the end, the team’s conclusions do not mean that humanity is alone in the Universe, or that the odds of finding evidence of extra-terrestrial civilizations (both past and present) is unlikely. Instead, it simply means that we can say with greater confidence – based on what we know – that humanity is most likely the only intelligent species in the Milky Way Galaxy at present.

Meanwhile, French authorities revealed that no narcotics were in Bourdain’s body when he died, though a significant amount of alcohol was. NBC's Stephanie Gosk reports. It's patently ridiculous that regions like the Black Belt, where populations have fallen so far in recent decades that barely more than 20 people inhabit each square mile, have been forgotten and ignored.

It's a place that seems more like a developing nation than a land of opportunity, where children are more likely to be born to single mothers and more likely to die before they learn to walk.

Eight of the counties in Alabama's Black Belt are on the list of the 100 poorest counties by median household income, as counted by the U.S. Census Bureau. Four of them - Wilcox, Sumter, Green and Bullock - are in the bottom 25.

The bottom 25. Out of more than 3,000 counties nationally. Ridiculous.

"Punishing and imprisoning the poor is the distinctively American response to poverty in the twenty-first century," it said. "Workers who cannot pay their debts, those who cannot afford private probation services, minorities targeted for traffic infractions, the homeless, the mentally ill, fathers who cannot pay child support and many others are all locked up. Mass incarceration is used to make social problems temporarily invisible and to create the mirage of something having been done."

The average answer for the first-ever Poll of Pollsters was 23 seats, the show announced Friday.

That’s exactly the number that Democrats need to flip control of the chamber from Republicans.

Republican pollster Ed Goeas of the Tarrance Group predicted it was a “better than even chance” that Democrats reclaim control of the House for the first time in eight years.

He predicted Democrats would net 23 seats.

Carly Cooperman, a partner at Schoen Consulting and a Democratic pollster, predicted a gain of 24 seats. “We see the generic vote is in the Democratic favor and a lot of the competitive seats are held by Republicans,” she said.

Former Clinton pollster Mark Penn predicted a gain of 28 seats for Democrats.

Incumbent Roby will face Bobby Bright-- a former congressman she defeated in 2010-- in a runoff next month. Bright served one term in Congress as a Democrat, but switched parties to run against Roby in this year's Republican primary.

She has served four terms in Congress.

In 2016, Roby said she wouldn't vote for Trump after the Access Hollywood tape was made public, where Trump talked about grabbing women's body parts.

She said in a statement, "As disappointed as I've been with his antics throughout this campaign, I thought supporting the nominee was the best thing for our country and our party. Now it is abundantly clear that the best thing for our country and our party is for Trump to step aside and allow a responsible, respectable Republican to lead the ticket," she said.

What makes it remarkable is that he's on par with President Richard Nixon, who 43% of Americans said should be impeached and removed from office in a March 1974 Harris poll. That was after the scale of Watergate came to light, but months before the House started to move against Nixon, who would go on to resign in August 1974 rather than be impeached.

The 43% supporting Nixon's impeachment in that Harris poll, by the way, is much higher than the 29% who supported impeachment for President Bill Clinton in 1998. Or, for that matter, the similar number who wanted Presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush impeached. As CNN's Grace Sparks writes, there's basically "a baseline of pro-impeachment sentiment for a modern president" and Trump far eclipses it.
