Northfield MINN crowd flips over Bill Maher, who wants to flip Rep. Kline

Comedian Bill Maher is not on the ballot in Minnesota. He can’t even vote here. But he’s trying to oust Republican John Kline from his long-held second congressional district seat. That’s because activists in Kline’s district, presumably mostly Democrats, persuaded Maher to proclaim the congressman winner of the “Flip A District” contest.

A well-orchestrated social media campaign that included an airplane flying with a “flip a district” banner high over Dakota County apparently convinced Maher that there was enough enthusiasm among the ground troops to vote Kline out of office. Enthusiasm is important in Maher’s campaign because it has to make up for money.

In 2012 Maher reportedly donated a million dollars of his own money to re-elect President Obama. Maher is not spending that kind of money on the second congressional district race. Instead, he brought his HBO show “Real Time With Bill Maher” to Northfield to highlight Kline’s voting record — which Maher says does not represent this section of suburban and southern Minnesota that voted for President Obama in 2012.

Before taping the show, Maher walked through the Goodbye Blue Monday Coffee House, past a voter registration table and handed out autographs. The demonstrators outside the one-time vaudeville theater and the crowd in the venue clearly supported flipping the district and removing Kline.

BCAM: Breast cancer awareness month offers little when disease has spread

For some breast cancer patients, the relentlessly pink optimism of October filled with positive messages of how screening saves lives makes them want to go into hiding until Nov.1.

For people with metastatic breast cancer, or cancer that has spread to other parts of the body, the month can be a cruel reminder of how their story isn’t the story other people want to hear. Their original cancer was found early and treated, but it came back with a vengeance. The label “survivor” may never feel comfortable for someone who may always be in treatment.

“This month is a very frustrating month for most women with metastatic breast cancer,” said Vickie Young Wen, 51, of Sunnyvale. “The pink ribbon month seems to focus on triumph and they emphasize the word 'survivor.’ There’s a lot of 'I beat cancer’ and 'Cancer picked the wrong chick.’ … That makes a lot of us who did not beat cancer think, so does that mean cancer picked the right chick?”

Wen, who learned she had metastatic breast cancer a year after her original diagnosis, is waging her own “Pinktober” campaign complete with a “I Want More Than a Pink Ribbon” page on Facebook. Every day this month (except Sundays) she’ll wear different variations of a T-shirt that says: “I am stage IV. Talk to me.”

Four terror suspects were seized in dawn police swoops yesterday - including an Islamic State veteran suspected of plotting an attack in the UK.

At least one of four suspects - all arrested in London - is thought to have trained with ISIS and returned to the UK after fighting on the Syrian killing fields.

Dozens of IS fighters are thought to have been stopped at the border as they attempt to return to the UK but this person is understood to have gone home and remained under surveillance.

The men - aged between 20 and 21 – were held by counter terror police and assisted by armed officers who tasered one during the the early morning raids.

Pro-ISIS radicals with machetes, knives attack Kurds in Germany (WARNING GRAPHIC VIDEO)

Peaceful protests against IS in Syria and Iraq organized by Kurdish nationals in several German cities ended with serious clashes with pro-jihadist Muslims in Hamburg and Celle. Police had to request reinforcements to restore order.

Police in Hamburg, a port city of 1.8 million people, used water cannons, batons and pepper spray late Tuesday to disperse crowds of warring Kurds and pro-jihadist Muslims, armed with knives and brass-knuckles, following a protest against Islamic State militants who are attacking the Kurdish town of Kobani in Syria near the Turkish border.

11 Rules For Journalists Covering ISIS, Issued By ISIS

1: Correspondents must swear allegiance to the Caliph [Abu Bakr] al-Baghdadi ... they are subjects of the Islamic State and, as subjects, they are obliged to swear loyalty to their imam.

2: Their work will be under the exclusive supervision of the ISIS media offices.

3: Journalists can work directly with international news agencies (such as Reuters, AFP and AP), but they are to avoid all international and local satellite TV channels. They are forbidden to provide any exclusive material or have any contact (sound or image) with them in any capacity.

4: Journalists are forbidden to work in any way with the TV channels placed on the blacklist of channels that fight against Islamic countries (such as Al-Arabiya, Al Jazeera and Orient). Violators will be held accountable.

5: Journalists are allowed to cover events in the governorate with either written or still images without having to refer back to the ISIS media office. All published pieces and photos must carry the journalist’s and photographer’s names.

6: Journalists are not allowed to publish any reportage (print or broadcast) without referring to the ISIS media office first.

7: Journalists may have their own social media accounts and blogs to disseminate news and pictures. However, the ISIS media office must have the addresses and name handles of these accounts and pages.

8: Journalists must abide by the regulations when taking photos within ISIS territory and avoid filming locations or security events where taking pictures is prohibited.

9: ISIS media offices will follow up on the work of local journalists within ISIS territory and in the state media. Any violation of the rules in place will lead to suspending the journalist from his work, and he will be held accountable.

10: The rules are not final and are subject to change at any time depending on the circumstances and the degree of cooperation between journalists and their commitment to their brothers in the ISIS media offices.

11: Journalists are given a license to practice their work after submitting a license request at the ISIS media office.

Iraq Slave Markets Sell Women for $10 to Attract Isis Recruits

Islamic militants in Iraq have created slave markets, trading and selling women and children of Christian and Yazidi groups, according to UN investigators.

At least 2,500 women and children have been imprisoned, sexually abused and sold for around $10 each by Isis slavers.

The slave markets in the al-Quds area of Mosul in Iraq and Raqqa in Syria have been used as a way of attracting new recruits to Islamic State, the UN said according to a Times report.

Women who were captured at the end of August managed to contact the UN, having kept hold of their mobile phones. They reported being subject to sexual assaults.
