Facebook has historically struggled with requests to remove false information from their social network. In particular, they have furiously resisted any call to remove political ads that contain verifiable lies.
But in a new interview with Bloomberg Technology, Facebook’s chief operating officer Sheryl Sandberg made clear the company will take a much more hardline stance when it comes to fake news about coronavirus:

President Donald Trump has lost faith in his son-and-law and senior advisor, according to a bombshell new report by Gabriel Sherman in Vanity Fair.
“With the markets in free fall despite emergency action by the Fed over the weekend, Trump is waking up to the reality that’s been clear to everyone: Coronavirus poses a once-in-a-hundred-years threat to the country,” Vanity Fair reported. “As Trump processes the stakes facing the country—and his presidency—he’s also lashing out at advisers, whom he blames for the White House’s inept and flat-footed response. Sources say a principal target of his anger is Jared Kushner.”

President Donald Trump was faced a special counsel investigation into his relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin and was impeached over strengthen Russia’s position in the region, which is why a decision by Attorney General William Barr will likely garner much criticism.
“The U.S. Justice Department moved Monday to drop its two-year-long prosecution of a Russian company charged with orchestrating a social media campaign to interfere in the 2016 U.S. presidential election,” The Washington Post reported Monday evening. “The stunning reversal came weeks before the case — a spin off of special counsel Robert S. Mueller III’s probe — was to go to trial.”
The filing came after the end of business hours.
"Assistants to U.S. Attorney Timothy Shea of Washington D.C., and Assistant Attorney General for National Security John C. Demers cited an unspecified ‘change in the balance of the government’s proof due to a classification determination, according to a nine-page filing accompanied by facts under seal,” the newspaper explained.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is facing widespread criticism for highlighting his “urgent” priorities despite sending senators home for an extended weekend break during the coronavirus outbreak.
The Kentucky Republican tweeted out a list of those priorities — including a coronavirus relief package — Sunday evening from his iPhone, and he was met with condemnation.

A South Florida megachurch pastor wants his congregation to know even though the coronavirus continues to spread, they should be coming to church to worship anyway, and any fear they might have of packed spaces is coming from a “demonic spirit.”
“Do you believe God would bring his people to his house to be contagious with the virus? Of course not,” pastor Guillermo Maldonado said, according to the Miami Herald. But as the Herald points out, Maldonado’s service wasn’t as packed as it usually is.
“This service is usually packed. So now they’re home in a cave afraid of the virus, that you want to transmit the virus,” Maldonado lamented. “If we die, we die for Christ. If we live, we live for Christ, so what do you lose?”
Other places of worship in the area have followed the advice of health officials to avoid mass gatherings of “over 250” in an effort to stem the infection rates and have shuttered services. But Maldonado seems to have the opposite intent. In a now-deleted Facebook post, he warned his followers that they have two choices — “Come in and receive your healing, or stay home and miss out.”

Former Milwaukee County, Wisconsin sheriff David Clarke Jr. pushed a new coronavirus conspiracy theory on Twitter Sunday.
According to the right-wing pundit, “it is now evident that this is an orchestrated attempt to destroy CAPITALISM. First sports, then schools and finally commercial businesses. Time to RISE UP and push back. Bars and restaurants should defy the order. Let people decide if they want to go out.”
His comment came in response to a story from Axios about states ordering restaurants and bars to close except for delivery and takeout.
The former sheriff then went off on an expletive-laden rant.

U.S. stock-index futures trigger limit-up and limit-down rules when they see 5% price swings
U.S. stocks have been experiencing some of the most volatile trading in the past decade in recent weeks and that trend continued into Monday morning after the Federal Reserve slashed rates to nearly 0% and unveiled some of the most dramatic stimulus measures since the 2008 financial crisis to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.
The three main stock-index futures contracts hit daily limit-down rules for the third time this week and circuit breaker rules, intended to prevent panic selling, are likely to kick in at Monday’s open.
Futures for the most-active Dow Jones Industrial Average YMH20, -7.908% for March shed 1,041 points, to 21,798, while S&P 500 futures ESH20, -9.381% and Nasdaq-100 futures NQH20, -7.990% were all trading limit-down.
Gauged by exchange-traded funds that track those indexes, stocks are in for a powerful drop. The SPDR Dow Jones Industrial Average ETF Trust DIA, -10.629% was down about 10% in premarket trade, the SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust SPY, -10.637% was 9.6% lower and the Invesco QQQ Trust Series QQQ, -9.988%, which tracks the Nasdaq-100, was 8.7% lower.

Stocks plunged at the opening bell Monday, triggering a 15-minute market-wide trading halt as investors failed to take comfort in the Federal Reserve's emergency policy measures. The S&P 500 SPX, -8.135% fell 220.55 points, or 8.1%, at the opening bell, immediately triggering a trading curb that kicks in at a loss of 7% for the benchmark index. The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, -9.706% dropped 2,250 points, or 9.7%, while the Nasdaq Composite COMP, -6.123% droped 482 points, or 6.1%. Another circuit breaker would kick in if the S&P 500 falls 13% once trading resumes.
