Former National Security Adviser John Bolton said on Monday night that he was concerned that President Donald Trump and the White House would try to muzzle his tell-all book, The Room Where It Happened: A White House Memoir.
I hope, ultimately, I can get the book published, Bolton told the audience at an event at Duke University, his first public appearance since the beginning of the impeachment proceedings against Trump. I hope its not suppressed.
The former adviser slammed the White Houses censorship of his book with its lengthy pre-publication review of the manuscript for classified information.
Bolton, who had refused to testify in the Houses impeachment investigation, refused to divulge any information regarding Trumps Ukraine pressure campaign, coyly suggesting that people ought to read his upcoming book (scheduled to be released on March 17) instead.

'What the hell are we doing?' Book reveals Deutsche Bank lawyer appalled that they
they kept Trump as a client
Published 4 hours ago on February 18, 2020
By Brad Reed
A new book written by New York Times reporter David Enrich reveals that Deutsche Banks own general counsel was appalled that the bank kept Trump as a client, as he kept defaulting on debts even after all other banks had cut him off from funding.
A review of the book published in the Times reveals that Deutsche Bank was so desperate to have Trump as a high-profile American client that its private banking division kept lending him money even after its real estate division cut him off for failing to repay his loans.
Deutsches brass was so in thrall to Trumps celebrity, and so eager to expand in America, one division lent $48 million to cancel the debt on a Chicago skyscraper a debt Trump had defaulted on with another wing of the same bank, the review explains. They bought his pitch as voters would. In what could serve as a requiem for the countrys lost innocence, the general counsel said, What the hell are we doing lending money to a guy like this?'
Much of the book does not deal specifically with Trump, however, and instead details an assortment of scandals that Deutsche Bank has been involved in, including interest rate manipulation, Russian money laundering, currency dealings with rogue states, the collapse of Italys (and the worlds) oldest bank, hidden derivative losses, a high-level suicide, according to the review.

Trump attacks jury and demands new trial for convicted felon Roger Stone
By Emily Singer -February 18, 2020 10:07 AM
Trump is trying to push the judge to grant Stone a new trial just days before Stone is set to be sentenced.
Donald Trump is once again meddling in the criminal proceedings against his longtime political ally and former campaign adviser Roger Stone, this time demanding that the judge in Stone's case grant him a new trial.
Trump made the demand on Twitter by quoting Fox News personality Andrew Napolitano, who said on "Fox & Friends" Tuesday morning that a juror on Stone's case was allegedly biased against Trump.
Trump tweeted:

GOP senators hold hearing on abortion to attack doctors and peddle lies
By Lisa Needham -February 18, 2020 10:40 AM
Republicans are relying on long-debunked claims to stir anti-abortion sentiment and cut women off from health care.
Last week, the Senate Judiciary Committee heard testimony on the latest bill designed to spread lies about later abortions. Sponsored by Sen. Ben Sasse (R-NE), the "Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act" is a solution in search of a problem.
The hearing itself was a tangle of lies directed at people who find themselves in incredibly vulnerable situations when abortion becomes necessary late in pregnancy.
Sasse's bill would "prohibit a health care practitioner from failing to exercise the proper degree of care in the case of a child who survives an abortion or attempted abortion." If practitioners fail to exercise the "proper degree of care" something the bill does not define at all they could face a fine and up to five years of prison time.
From the very start of the hearing, Sasse approached the matter in a disingenuous way. He said that the hearing "is not actually about limiting access to abortion at all" and was merely about making sure an infant "born alive" during a "botched abortion" is given the same care "that would be provided to any other baby at the same gestational stage."

McConnell gets $50,000 from pharma after blocking bill to lower drug prices
By Josh Israel -February 18, 2020 9:13 AM
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said in September that he would not allow a vote on the Lower Drug Costs Now Act.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell announced in September that he would block any consideration of a bill to lower prescription drug costs. By the end of December, he had raked in more than $50,000 in contributions from political action committees and individuals tied to the pharmaceutical industry.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced on Sept. 19 that the Democratic majority would offer H.R. 3, the Lower Drug Costs Now Act. The bill would allow the federal government to negotiate with pharmaceutical companies on the cost of prescription drugs for Medicare, restrict price hikes, and limit out-of-pocket costs. It aims to follow through on one of Donald Trump's unkept campaign promises: Medicare drug price negotiation.
That same day Pelosi outlined the plan, McConnell (R-KY) declared it would have no chance of passage in the GOP-controlled Senate. "Socialist price controls will do a lot of left-wing damage to the healthcare system. And of course we're not going to be calling up a bill like that," he told reporters.
Though polling shows about 88% of Americans favor letting Medicare negotiate lower drug costs, the pharmaceutical industry is strongly against it. And within days of McConnell's announcement, his reelection campaign and his leadership PAC saw a large uptick in donations from the industry.

American cruise passengers quarantined at US military bases
By The Associated Press

TRAVIS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. (AP) More than 300 American cruise ship passengers, including 14 who tested positive for coronavirus, were being quarantined at military bases in California and Texas on Monday after arriving from Japan on charter flights overnight.
One plane carrying cruise passengers touched down at Travis Air Force Base in Northern California just before midnight Sunday, while another arrived at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas early Monday. The passengers will remain at the bases for two weeks.
Japans Defense Minister Taro Kono tweeted earlier that Japanese troops helped transport 340 U.S. passengers on 14 buses from Yokohama port to Tokyos Haneda airport. About 380 Americans were on the cruise ship.
The U.S. said it arranged for the evacuation because people on the Diamond Princess were at a high risk of exposure to the new virus thats been spreading in Asia. For the departing Americans, the evacuation cuts short a 14-day quarantine that began aboard the cruise ship Feb. 5.

Leaked data shows China's Uighurs detained due to religion
By DAKE KANG
Beijing (AP) For decades, the Uighur imam was a bedrock of his farming community in Chinas far west. On Fridays, he preached Islam as a religion of peace. On Sundays, he treated the sick with free herbal medicine. In the winter, he bought coal for the poor.
But as a Chinese government mass detention campaign engulfed Memtimin Emers native Xinjiang region three years ago, the elderly imam was swept up and locked away, along with all three of his sons living in China.
Now, a newly revealed database exposes in extraordinary detail the main reasons for the detentions of Emer, his three sons, and hundreds of others in Karakax County: their religion and their family ties.
The database obtained by The Associated Press profiles the internment of 311 individuals with relatives abroad and lists information on more than 2,000 of their relatives, neighbors and friends. Each entry includes the detainees name, address, national identity number, detention date and location, along with a detailed dossier on their family, religious and neighborhood background, the reason for detention, and a decision on whether or not to release them. Issued within the past year, the documents do not indicate which government department compiled them or for whom.
