Numbers released by the Census Bureau Wednesday as part of its annual look at children and families show that one in five children were on food stamp assistance in 2014. The survey was taken last spring.
The number of people receiving food stamps now called the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP spiked through the recession and has stayed at a higher level since. In the 2007 Census survey, 9 million children received SNAP assistance.

Arizona's New Governor: We Have No Money for Public Education, But Let's Fund This Private Prison
http://www.motherjones.com/politics/2015/02/arizonas-new-governor-just-cut-education-funding-build-big-new-private-prisonIn his inaugural speech in January, Arizona's new Republican governor, Doug Ducey, struck a budget hawk's tone while staring down a $1.5 billion budget shortfall. "Fair warning: The budget will not meet with general approval among special interests." he said. "I can assure you that a more efficient government is not only necessary, but sensible." But there was one special interest group that must have been pleased when Ducey rolled out his budget proposal: the private prison industry.
Ducey's austere budget plan slashed $384 million in state programs, including $75 million in funding for Arizona's public universities. But it earmarked $5 million for a new, 3,000-bed private prison that even the state's most notorious law enforcement official, Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, argues is unnecessary.

‘Group-Thinking’ the World into a New War
https://consortiumnews.com/2015/01/30/group-thinking-the-world-into-a-new-war/Exclusive: The armchair warriors of Official Washington are eager for a new war, this time with Russia over Ukraine, and they are operating from the same sort of mindless group think and hostility to dissent that proved so disastrous in Iraq, reports Robert Parry.
By Robert Parry
If you wonder how the lethal group think on Iraq took shape in 2002, you might want to study whats happening today with Ukraine. A misguided consensus has grabbed hold of Official Washington and has pulled in everyone who matters and tossed out almost anyone who disagrees.
Part of the problem, in both cases, has been that neocon propagandists understand that in the modern American media the personal is the political, that is, you dont deal with the larger context of a dispute, you make it about some easily demonized figure. So, instead of understanding the complexities of Iraq, you focus on the unsavory Saddam Hussein.

Oh, and continue to silence the truth here. We will all stand together for the truth and fight against neocons every step of the way, whether in government, or trying to silence dissent just like the US police state does with arrests and incarceration.
America's Coup Machine: Destroying Democracy Since 1953
http://www.alternet.org/world/americas-coup-machine-destroying-democracy-1953Soon after the 2004 U.S. coup to depose President Jean-Bertrand Aristide of Haiti, I heard Aristide's lawyer Ira Kurzban speaking in Miami. He began his talk with a riddle: "Why has there never been a coup in Washington D.C.?" The answer: "Because there is no U.S. Embassy in Washington D.C." This introduction was greeted with wild applause by a mostly Haitian-American audience who understood it only too well.

GOP Builds Full-Scale Replica Of Struggling Ohio Town To Train Presidential Hopefuls
http://www.theonion.com/articles/gop-builds-fullscale-replica-of-struggling-ohio-to,37948/MARTINSDALE, MTIn an effort to improve the partys chances in the 2016 election, GOP officials announced Thursday that the Republican National Committee has built a functional full-scale replica of a struggling Ohio town in which to train presidential hopefuls.
Top-level Republican sources told reporters they have been using the fake town of Stocktonville, OH, which is located in a remote stretch of central Montana, to rigorously prepare candidates since completing construction of the 18-square-mile facility last month. According to GOP leaders, the recently erected village, which is inhabited by 33,000 actors coached to portray middle-class Americans such as small-business owners and auto workers, replicates every location and personal interaction a candidate could expect to encounter while campaigning in a critical Rust Belt swing county.

There is much common ground here
I can find things I can disagree with strongly, and I can see topics I agree with also at the same time
I see a variety of posters and viewpoints that while I never may agree with I can respect and appreciate, and I have changed my mind and learned to do my homework when researching things to post about. Sometimes I think it is good to have an open mind on all topics, and its very surprising to me while I agree strongly and disagree strongly with posts by similar posters.
I think it will serve me well to have a more open mind and maybe see others points of view.
Where are vaccines manufactured? Remember this story?
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2013-12-23/china-suspends-use-of-hepatitis-b-vaccine-after-four-babies-dieVaccine manufacturing and production is a huge industry in China. Along with pet food treats that have killed 1000's of animals in the US, and food and poultry safety violations that occur everyday in China, maybe its time to look where the vaccines that we give our children every day are made and shipped to us.
The science behind vaccination is sound and makes perfect sense. I think citizens are concerned about the additives and safety problems that have been associated with vaccine products, NOT the science behind it.
