The Polack MSgt
The Polack MSgt's JournalBlackstar was released 23 years ago today.
My wife has discovered an old Japanese soap opera and is obsessed with it
It's called "Go Onsen" and it's as silly and melodramatic as you could imagine...
She's averaging 5 episodes a day and has conversations with the TV throughout
The emotional parts are pure cheese, there are shifting romantic pairings, long lost siblings, crippling debt, infidelity and the struggle to gain clear ownership of the Yokan that is the setting for the show.
And every episode includes at least one comedic aside from the supporting cast
It isn't subtitled, but if you speak Japanese maybe give it a look.
This song may be a bit opaque the 1st time through. Look, I love it, but that guarantees nothing
Give it 2 or 3 listens if you would.
This is a song that I fully expected to hate (spoiler, I don't)
First of all it's a cover of my one of my least favorite songs Tom Petty was involved in, though that was not Tom's fault
Second, I was just not enamored with idea of Nathaniel Ratliffe singing Tom's part in this remake
So I ignored it when it came up on my recommendations for a while, but I had to click play because I'm a Molly Tuttle superfan.
So glad I did. this version reimagines the song - presents it in a more melancholy, weary voice.
The guitar is much better too.
Stop Dragging My Heart Around
Heart Has fallen into the dreaded 2 songs on FM radio rotation zone
Like so many other bands have before them.
Pretty soon Barracuda will disappear and Crazy On You will be the only Heart song on broadcast radio
They are still kicking around, but I think the 80s MTV hits may have alienated the older rockers and failed to secure a new audience for the long run.
But they can still do that thing they do...
And there are so many great songs scattered throughout their catalog that deserve air time
I'll never stop hyping this band for the same reason I keep pushing the Hip, Roy Buchannan, Wilko Johnson, Pure Prairie League and others. If you blow me away live I'm a fan for life. Heart is on that list
Blue Oyster Cult
I can't help myself. Here is an emotionally over wrought MASTERPIECE
Hadn't posted any of Yasmin Williams' music in more than a year
But she released a new record a couple weeks ago. These 2 are from that album, Urban Driftwood.
Ladies and Gentlemen, please give her a warm DUMA welcome...
This is genuine forgotten gem
