Reece2076's JournalPublic Option is better than Medicare for all
Public Option
1. Anyone who doesn't have insurance can immediately buy into it.
2. Anyone not happy with their private insurance can buy into it.
3. If it ends up being cheaper and more efficient than private insurance most people would eventually choose it.
Medicare for all
1. Not giving people a choice to choose their insurance provider whether it be public or private is un-American.
2. Both Warren and Sanders admitted that it would raise taxes, but expect us to pay less overall due to lower health care cost.
Conclusion
1. Giving people the option to buy public insurance is more practical and fair than forcing everyone to choose public insurance that hasn't been proven yet while raising their taxes.
Ford wants FBI investigation before testifying
Source: CNN
The woman accusing Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault says the FBI should investigate the incident before senators hold a hearing on the allegations.
In a letter addressed to Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley of Iowa, and obtained by CNN's "Anderson Cooper 360," Christine Blasey Ford's attorneys argue that "a full investigation by law enforcement officials will ensure that the crucial facts and witnesses in this matter are assessed in a non-partisan manner, and that the Committee is fully informed before conducting any hearing or making any decisions."
The letter from Ford's lawyers notes that despite receiving a "stunning amount of support from her community," Ford has also "been the target of vicious harassment and even death threats" and has been forced to leave her home.
"We would welcome the opportunity to talk with you and Ranking Member Feinstein to discuss reasonable steps as to how Dr. Ford can cooperate while also taking care of her own health and security," the letter from Ford's lawyers said.
"What we're saying is there should be an investigation because that's the right thing to do," Ford's attorney Lisa Banks told Cooper.

Ha! Checkmate! An investigation would last well past the midterms.
Lanny Davis: Michael Cohen Testified Donald Trump Directed Him To Commit Crime
Source: Deadline
Lanny J. Davis, the attorney for President Donald Trumps former fixer Michael Cohen, has issued a statement about his clients guilty plea today in court:
Michael Cohen took this step today so that his family can move on to the next chapter. This is Michael fulfilling his promise made on July 2nd to put his family and country first and tell the truth about Donald Trump. Today he stood up and testified under oath that Donald Trump directed him to commit a crime by making payments to two women for the principal purpose of influencing an election. If those payments were a crime for Michael Cohen, then why wouldnt they be a crime for Donald Trump?
<snip>
The U.S. Attorneys office said in a statement, of Cohens crimes, The defendant caused and made payments described herein in order to influence the 2016 presidential election. In so doing, he coordinated with one or more members of the campaign, including through meetings and phone calls, about the fact, nature, and timing of the payments.
This morning Cohen turned himself in to authorities and plead guilty to eight counts of tax evasion on
personal income taxes, giving false statements to a bank, and and how he violated campaign finance laws.
Asked by the judge to describe that last crime, Cohen said that, in coordination and at the direction of the candidate for federal office, he had made payments of more than $100K to a woman, and coordinated a national publications payment of $150K to another woman, both at direction of this candidate.

Statistics to shut down Conservatives when they try to give credit to trump for Obama's economy
I know we all have friends, family, or run into conservatives online that say that trump is such a wonderful president because of the economy. Or worse yet, the B.S. line that trump has done more for the economy in a year than Obama did in 8 years. And more recently how black people need to thank him for a record low unemployment rate. I put together a very simple post that even the most rabid, brain-dead trump supporter can understand, with links to indisputable sources, so they can't claim "fake news." Feel free to share it
--------------------------
The most important fiscal year for the economy is the federal government's fiscal year. It defines the U.S. government's budget. It runs from October 1 of the budget's prior year through September 30 of the year being described. For example:
FY 2017 was from October 1, 2016, through September 30, 2017. Obama's economy
FY 2018 is from October 1, 2017, through September 30, 2018. Trump's economy begins
FY 2019 is from October 1, 2018, through September 30, 2019.
Why does the federal fiscal year begin on October 1? That allows newly elected officials to participate in the budget process for their first year in office.
For example, President Trump and the Congressional members elected in November 2016 took office in January 2017. The Trump administration created a FY 2018 budget blueprint. It has not created a detailed budget as of May 10, 2017.

The unemployment rate when Obama's economy began on Oct 1, 2009 was 10%. It went down every single year from there all the way down to 4.1% Oct 2017, when the baton was passed to trump.

Black unemployment was 15.8% Oct 2009. It was down to 7.3% when the baton was palled to Trump. It's now 6.8%.

White unemployment was 9.2% Oct 2009. It went down to 3.5% in Oct 2017.

WTF - After Overriding Obama's Veto, Congress Is Now Having Second Thoughts About the 9/11 Bill
Republican congressional leaders said Thursday they might need to revisit a measure that allows victims of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks to sue Saudi Arabia over worries that it will expose U.S. officials to lawsuits abroad.
It was just this week that Congress overwhelmingly voted to override President Obamas veto of the measure, which is now law. But some lawmakers already seemed to be backtracking from their embrace of the measure shortly before leaving town until after the November elections.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said Thursday the law could have unintended ramifications and needed further discussion. But he blamed the White House for not making a forceful argument about the threat posed by the legislation to to U.S. officials.
Everybody was aware of who the potential beneficiaries were, but nobody had really focused on the potential downsides in terms of our international relationships, said McConnell, who voted to override the presidents veto.
Their comments infuriated White House officials who contend the dangers posed by the bill were obvious and articulated well ahead of the votes to pass the bill and then to override the veto.
The suggestion on the part of some members of the Senate was that they didnt know what they were voting on, that they didnt understand the negative consequences of the bill, he said Thursday. Thats a hard suggestion to take seriously.
The White House has warned the legislation is too broad and could set a dangerous precedent, inviting other nations to respond by suing American diplomats, military personnel and other officials in foreign courts over U.S. foreign policy actions.
While the bill is intended to aid 9/11 victims families pursuit of Saudi Arabia through the court system, it is broader than that and would allow courts to waive claims to foreign sovereign immunity in situations involving acts of terrorism on U.S. soil.

Donald Trump Says The Earth Is Flat ... Seriously
Speaking to reporters in Baltimore on Monday, following the 138th conference for the National Guard Association of the United States, the Republican Partys presidential nominee revealed that he is a member of a growing population known generally as flat earth truthers.
I fly a lot, and I mean a lot. No one flies more than me. Listen, I own a jet. I own a 757, beautiful plane, its the best plane! If the world were round, believe me, I would know!
The comments came in response to a question from AP reporter, Charles Darr, regarding the future role of the National Guard, as private companies proliferate space travel. Mr. Trump, if elected, are you willing to increase taxes in order to meet the growing budget demands of the National Guard, as existential threats from our enemies grow along with the advancement of space travel technology? Darr asked.
The presidential hopeful replied that such a future is nonsense, adding that the round earth people, and you know who they are, these people have an agenda.
After declaring that the world is flat, Mr. Trump, as he has done before, again cited the Internet as his primary source of information. There are people out there, many people, and I mean missile experts, sailors, you name it, folks, and this is what theyre saying. Its all on the Internet, its there.
The flat earth conspiracy theory, like most conspiracy theories, is propagated primarily via the Internet. Internet forums and YouTube channels are dedicated to enlightening the vast majority who, as truthers explain, naively buy into the globe earth theory that has been sold to them since birth.
