And Repubs would just swoop in and promise tax cuts

to those higher earners (many of whom are also struggling due to the pandemic) with the narrative that Dems are only for 'those people' (poor, PoC, etc) and not 'the middle class'. We would then lose all of the suburban voters we gained in 2018 and 2020.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jude_Wanniski#The_Two_Santa_Claus_Theory
The Two Santa Claus Theory is a political theory and strategy published by Wanniski in 1976, which he promoted within the United States Republican Party.[15][16] The theory states that in democratic elections, if Democrats appeal to voters by proposing programs to help people, then the Republicans cannot gain broader appeal by proposing less spending. The first "Santa Claus" of the theory title refers to the Democrats who promise programs to help the disadvantaged. The "Two Santa Claus Theory" recommends that the Republicans must assume the role of a second Santa Claus by not arguing to cut spending but offering the option of cutting taxes.

According to Wanniski, the theory is simple. In 1976, he wrote that the Two-Santa Claus Theory suggests that "the Republicans should concentrate on tax-rate reduction. As they succeed in expanding incentives to produce, they will move the economy back to full employment and thereby reduce social pressures for public spending. Just as an increase in Government spending inevitably means taxes must be raised, a cut in tax rates—by expanding the private sector—will diminish the relative size of the public sector."[16] Wanniski suggested this position, as Thom Hartmann has clarified, so that the Democrats would "have to be anti-Santas by raising taxes, or anti-Santas by cutting spending. Either one would lose them elections."[17]

+1. It was a party, don't people touch and interact?

I've seen people pick others up and spin them around at parties. Her facial expression seems relaxed and smiling, as if having a good time, and there are lots of people around. Cuomo is also Italian, who are know to be more handsy and jovial folk.

Unless something actually damning comes out, I think Cuomo should fight this, as it sets an terrible precedent if people can just pile on to take down a powerful Dem. It is reminiscent of the women who claimed Biden was awkward around them etc, that culminated in the Tara Reid situation. It all just seemed 'timed' for political reasons. Biden stood firm and thank goodness he did.

Vaccinate all teachers - that would relieve stress on parents

and communities that depend upon school as a place to put the kids while the parents work or do other things.

Elderly should be the top priority, but our leaders have to realize other groups are under tremendous strain as well.

What it all comes down to is we need to pass Biden's rescue plan so we can get the rollout pumping better so more people can easily get the vaccine.

This narrative was designed by the alt-left on social media to scapegoat Kamala.

She does not have 'superpowers' to do this, as others have noted, it would be overridden by the Senate, and then she (and Biden) would look like fools. Biden also ran on 'restoring normalcy' and going against the parlimentarian (who was appointed by Harry Reid and is well respected) just would look wrong.

And as noted, Manchin and Sinema would stall the bill until it was taken out. Manchin has been adamant that he won't vote on anything the parlimentarian disallowed, and if the parlimentarian had allowed it he would've only gone as high as $11/hr. Why get into this shit for $11 when we can (as Lawrence Odonnell who worked in the Senate noted) stuff it into a defense spending bill - same way we did to raise it to $7.75 back in 2009.

Manchin is a problem but he is in a deep red state, so it's difficult (but not impossible) to find a better conservative Dem to primary him. Sinema should be primaried as she's too conservative for a purple state. Somebody better like Rep. Ruben Gallego could defeat her in a primary and IMO easily win statewide.

So the game is on to take down Cuomo.

He's a nice man but also a tough politician who has often been underestimated.

Hopefully those coming after him don't cry about 'bullying' when he starts to punch back.

He's a good governor, and the crybabies couldn't even do a fraction of the job he's done in facing down the pandemic and the Trump admin.

Time to organize mass boycotts against seditionist states.

That is one lever that rarely discussed, and IMO effective, as big corps don't want to lose money or be associated with anti-democracy. Repubs can't afford to lose the support of business, and if states lose money due to sedition the residents will look to kick the seditionist politicians out of office.

Lawsuits against various entities - like the NAACP suit, the Dominion suit etc- can also be effective.

Basically there must be a price paid by those who seek to undermine democracy. We can't rely upon a right-wing Supreme Court or a McConnell obstructed Senate (don't see how we get any voting rights bills thru) alone to save us.

It's a threat to hold over Manchin's head, he's up for reelection in 2024.

Manchin's arrogance comes from the idea that 'nobody but me' can win as a Dem in 'deep red' WV.

But scratch below the surface and it's obvious that WV has a long history of electing Dems to the Senate (Byrd, Rockefeller) and really is a conservative-left state but votes Repub due to social issues. Give them a conservative Dem (who comes across as empathetic, unlike Manchin) like Jim Justice and he'll win easily IMO.

It would be better if Justice would run against Capito (R) at some point for the other seat, so there'd be two Dem Senators from the state.

But the idea is to let Manchin know he's not so special as he likes to think he is.

We need to put pressure on Manchin and pass the bill

in a straight party line vote, with our fabulous Kamala smiling as she gavels it in.

Biden won 81m votes on this agenda, it's what the people support, and it's time to dunk of these fuckers and show them who's boss.

February 24, 2021

Biden ran on a broad-based liberal agenda and won 81m votes.

Nobody voted for Manchin to control the agenda... this is why our system is so fucked up.

Time to send Kamala back into the state.. even the WV governor said he wants to 'go big' and supports Biden's stimulus as is (iirc).

We need to light stronger fires under the asses of these conservative Dems. Let the mayors, governors and residents of their states know that it is their senators standing in the way of desperately needed relief.

+1. MSNBC/CNN viewers don't care about this shit

and I don't think these networks 'get' this; we're political news people and like seeing our regular shows, especially with so much going on with the confirmation hearings etc.

Anytime a celebrity stubs their toe we get 24/7 coverage similar to the OJ stuff - it's the same reality show environment that led to Trump.
