A high-stakes legal showdown is brewing for President Donald Trump, as a woman who said he groped her has subpoenaed all documents from his campaign pertaining to any woman alleging that Donald J. Trump touched her inappropriately.
The previously unreported subpoena was issued in March but entered into the court file last month. The White House did not respond to a request for comment, nor did Trumps attorney.
Summer Zervos, a former contestant on the Trumps reality TV show The Apprentice, accused Trump of kissing and grabbing her when she went to his bungalow at the Beverly Hills Hotel in 2007 to discuss a possible job at the Trump Organization. After Zervos made the accusation last October, just weeks before the election, Trump denied her accusation and called it a lie.
She responded by suing him for defamation. As part of that suit, her lawyers served a subpoena on his campaign, asking that it preserve all documents it had about her.

The idea behind toxic cynicism is discouragement.
If you believe that nothing you do is going to make a difference, youre more likely to check out and not even vote.
We saw this in large doses in the last election: Everything is awful so f*ck it, why not vote for Trump? If everyone is lying, what difference does it make?
Weve heard this for years from right-wing pundits in these forms:
You cant trust the government
You cant trust the media
You cant trust science
You cant trust academia
In the past, these narratives have been used to discredit traditional institutions while building up the organizations that corporate America wants us to trust: Big business.
We all know the marketingWe need to free some markets. We need tax cuts to unleash the power of our corporations. Whats good for business is whats good for America. Markets regulate themselves. More consumer choice will fix all of our issues with government.
All of these narratives were designed by corporate special interest groups like the Chamber of Commerce to encourage one thing: Selling off government (organizations designed by and for people) to private industry (organizations with profit as the main goal).
Weve heard so much of this over the years from our own propagandists that we were really susceptible to even greater levels of cynicism in this past election. Over and over again we were told that Hillary Clinton was just as bad.
Vanity Fair wrote about the goal of toxic cynicism in Russian propaganda:
At the heart of this mind-set is the idea that there is no such thing as objective truth or even facts, because everything is spun or disguised to reflect advantageously on one group or another. The whole idea of values has been thoroughly debased [in Russia], to the extent that if you talk about Western values youll just get a laugh, says Ben Nimmo, a research fellow at the Atlantic Council. This environment of toxic cynicism allows Putins word to be as good as anyone elses, because according to Moscows worldview everyone, including and especially westerners, is a self-righteous hypocrite and a liar.
I hear this from conservatives all the time. They think that everything that comes from the left is some sort of spin. Therefore, any spin of their own is justified.
Tactics for fighting cynicism
Pointing out propaganda techniques is not the most effective way of fighting them. With this in mind, I like to talk about a few ways of countering them if you encounter them personally.
1. If you know folks who just like to dump on everything on social media, get rid of them. I call these commenters seagull commenters because they just like to take a shit on everything. This doesnt mean conservatives. It means trolls.
2. Form groups of allies where the moderators can get rid of these people.
3. If you see people who are liberal getting down, pick them up. Tell them what theyre doing does matter. Talk about how it does make a difference. It takes psychological energy to fight movements and we need to pick people up, not tear them apart.
4. Work to establish trust with people.
5. Hold conversations at a values level rather than a policy level. If you can recognize when people you know have the same values as you do, its easier to see them as on your side even if you disagree about a candidate or a policy.
Tactic 2: Whataboutism
Tactic 3: Own all the narratives: right, left, center, the entire spectrum

Allah Is Found on Viking Funeral Clothes
Source: NY Times
ENKOPING, Sweden The discovery of Arabic characters that spell Allah and Ali on Viking funeral costumes in boat graves in Sweden has raised questions about the influence of Islam in Scandinavia.
The grave where the costumes were found belonged to a woman dressed in silk burial clothes and was excavated from a field in Gamla Uppsala, north of Stockholm, in the 1970s, but its contents were not cataloged until a few years ago, Annika Larsson, a textile archaeologist at Uppsala University, said on Friday.
Among the contents unearthed: a necklace with a figurine; two coins from Baghdad; and the bones of a rooster and a large dog.
Dr. Larsson discovered the Arabic characters in February, as she was preparing some of the items for an exhibition on Viking couture in Enkoping, Sweden. She had been trying to recreate textile patterns for the exhibits by comparing motifs on the burial dress with a silk band found around the head of a skeleton in a Viking grave at Birka, Sweden when she discovered Kufic characters of Arabic.
At first, she said, she could not make sense of the tiny geometric designs in both fabrics.
Then I remembered seeing them in similar Moorish designs in silk ribbons from Spain, she said. I understood it had to be a kind of Arabic character, not Nordic.
Upon closer examination of the band from all angles, she said, she realized she was looking at Kufic script. The words Allah and Ali appeared in the silk found in Boat Grave 36 and in many other graves and, most intriguing, the word Allah could be seen when reflected in a mirror. The same patterns have been found in mosaic grave monuments in Central Asia.
Dr. Larsson has long noted the prevalence of silk from Asia in Scandinavian Viking graves. But the analysis of these materials, the weaving techniques and design indicated a combination of Persian and Central Asian origins.

When women run 4 office, they win at the same rate as men but women are far less likely to run. Why?
When women run for office, they win at the same rate as men but women are far less likely to run for office at all. What do you think is the biggest barrier to women running for office?
When I was young I dropped the ball & it hurt LGBTQ in CO w/some stupid Amendment
I was just out from military service, nicely married to my fellow military hubby honey.
Minding my FUCKING BUSINESS w/o a care.
I did not believe this amendment would pass b/c in my young mind it was so rude.
How could fellow human beings try to hurt others just because.
But it did & they did.
THIS WAS MY WAKE-UP CALL.
I joined whatever I needed to fight the fight and take this bullshit amendment all the way to the supreme court.
Which we did and it got to be overturned a couple years later.
BUT IN THE MEANTIME I KNEW I ALLOWED HUMAN BEINGS SOULS TO BE HURT UNDER MY WATCH.
I thought about how they must've felt. To know that others surrounding them did not wish them well.
Wanting them to be stamped & stomped on.
This must've hurt their humanity.
Which hurt mine.
