Why does Virginia have a one consecutive term rule for Governors?

I get that most of you support term-limits (I don't, but I respect the opposite view), but one consecutive term only is ridiculous. Why not two or three? No other state does this for governors, it just strikes me as odd.

Who was the best NYC Mayor of the last 45 years?

I'm only going back 45 years because I don't remember anyone before Ed Koch. I'm kinda torn between two, and would like to see where everyone else stands before I vote on my own poll. Please give your opinions as to why you chose as you did.

Outcry after New York mayor dismisses separation of church and state

Civil rights groups blasted the mayor of New York City, Eric Adams, after he said he believed God had made him mayor, appeared to support compulsory prayer in public schools and said: “Don’t tell me about no separation of church and state.”

The head of the New York Civil Liberties Union led the condemnation.

“We are a nation and a city of many faiths and no faith,” Donna Lieberman said. “In order for our government to truly represent us, it must not favor any belief over another, including non-belief.”

The mayor made the controversial remarks at an interfaith breakfast at the New York Public Library on Tuesday.

Mayor Lori Lightfoot of Chicago Loses Her Bid for Re-election

CHICAGO — Mayor Lori Lightfoot of Chicago lost her bid for a second term on Tuesday, The Associated Press said, a resounding defeat that reflected widespread dissatisfaction from voters over her handling of crime and policing in the nation’s third-largest city.

Four years ago, Ms. Lightfoot made history as the first Black woman to be elected mayor of Chicago when she swept all 50 of the city’s wards. But she saw her popularity plunge during the coronavirus pandemic as Chicago suffered a spike in violent crime, with looting and destruction on its famed Magnificent Mile in 2020.

The two candidates to emerge from Tuesday’s first round of voting — Paul Vallas, a former public schools executive, and Brandon Johnson, a county board commissioner — will advance to a runoff election on April 4.

The race showcased the political divide that has emerged in some of America’s largest, most liberal cities, where hard-on-crime policies have increasingly resonated with voters.

Mexican president posts photo of what he claims is an elf

MEXICO CITY -- Mexico’s president posted a photo on his social media accounts Saturday showing what he said appeared to be a mythological woodland spirit similar to an elf.

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador did not seem to be joking when he posted the photo of an “Aluxe,” a mischievous woodland spirit in Mayan folklore.

López Obrador wrote the photo “was taken three days ago by an engineer, it appears to be an aluxe," adding “everything is mystical.”

The nighttime photo shows a tree with a branch forming what looks like a halo of hair, and what may be stars forming the figure’s eyes.

López Obrador has long expressed reverence for indigenous cultures and beliefs. Engineers and workers are in the Yucatan peninsula, constructing a tourist train that is the president's pet project.

Manchin, on Fox News, Refuses to Call Himself a Democrat

SENATOR JOE MANCHIN, an alleged Democrat, went on Fox News’ Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo — the Sunday morning equivalent of Tucker Carlson — and declined to identify as a member of the Democratic Party. That’s right, the senator who jokes with Republicans about switching parties, is now claiming he is an “American” instead of a Democrat.

“Do you still identify as a Democrat?” Bartiromo asked the senator at the conclusion of the interview.

“I will be involved in any way I can to help,” Manchin said.

“Do you still identify as a Democrat?” the host repeated. “I identify as an American,” the senator replied.

Jim Justice teases 2024 announcement on Manchin Senate seat: 'I'm not one to jerk people around'

Gov. Jim Justice (R-WV) said he's just about made up his mind on whether to challenge Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) for his Senate seat and teased that he’ll make an announcement “real soon.”

The Republican governor has been hinting at a Senate run for months, telling reporters in January he would be confident in his chances against the centrist Democrat. A win for Justice would be a major victory for Republicans as they seek to gain control of the Senate in 2024.

“I’m not one to jerk people around,” Justice told journalist Julie Mason, adding that he plans to make a decision sometime in the next two or three weeks. “We’re on the home stretch now. … I’ve pretty much made my decision on what I’m going to do, and I thought really seriously about it, my family talked about it a bunch of times. We’ll get to a decision here real quick.”

Justice said he wanted to hold off on making a decision until the state legislature concludes its current session, which is scheduled to end on March 11. That timeline extends previous comments from the West Virginia governor, in which he said he would make an announcement by the end of February.

I find this stat astounding, considering there are five right now (Carter, Clinton, W Bush, Obama, and Trump). How could this have happened? Has there ever been a period where this has happened before (besides the obvious time when George Washington was President)?

On the flip side, having five is a lot. Is that the record (or tied for the record)?
