It behoves all of us not to forget in these turbulent times what Trump and Brexit policies mean to..

..our friends, colleagues and families in our 'minority' communities as the racist hell dogs have been unleashed by these fuckers who supposedly lead us.

We are rightly spending much of our time here discussing the on going drama coming from the White House and to a lesser extent the UK, but all this nasty has real life consequences that are objectively getting worse everyday.

Trump supporter arrested for pulling gun on woman over her Elizabeth Warren bumper sticker

Police in Moorhead, Minnesota this week arrested a Trump supporter who allegedly pulled his gun on a woman because he disapproved of her bumper sticker supporting the presidential candidacy of Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA).

The Star Tribune reports that an 18-year-old Moorhead woman told local police that she was confronted by a 27-year-old man who pulled up alongside her car and started yelling about “his dislike for the political bumper sticker” on her car, police said.

The woman continued driving down the street, as she initially didn’t believe the man’s angry rants would amount to anything dangerous.

The man followed her and eventually got out of his vehicle, walked in front her car, and pulled out his gun, police said.

He has been charged with terroristic threats, but seriously? On what planet - in a democracy - can anyone think this kind of behaviour is in anyway acceptable.. these trump supporters need a bloody good talking to!

The Fall of the UK - How on earth have we got to this point?

The UK has gone from friction less trade and amazing trade deals to the smashing up of the Good Friday Agreement and potential food & medicine shortages as we inch closer to a no deal. It seems obvious from the noises coming out Downing Street this morning that they have effectively given up any hope of achieving a deal on terms the right wing nutters who have seized control would accept.

How on earth are the Brexiters still cheering this nonsense on? The extreme right have managed to convince the Kingdom that the 17.2 million who voted for Brexit are sacrosanct, and we are supposed to believe that they have flipped the views of these people into a hard-line far right extreme Brexit Party view of the world, and the moron that rules us is quite happy to go along with this cause power.

However, if you look behind the rhetoric of the May European election outcome, when the Brexit party won what is seemingly a huge victory, fuelling the fire of their rhetoric, it is all smoke and mirrors. Given low turnout, it got about 10% of the vote if we extrapolate it out. BoJo is focusing his attention on this 10% and ignoring the centrist middle. So, we end up staring down the gun of a no deal Brexit because there is a core support for the BXP (and Brexit) running at circa 10% and BoJo needs them to win an election. That is not 17.2 million. Not by a long shot. The current conservative leadership is in thrall to a bunch of little Englander empire reliving wannabees who are demonstrably noisy and aggressive and refuse to be swayed by evidence or facts. You know what they say…empty vessels rattle loudest.

The question must be as we gaze in horror at this clusterfuck, why should we accept the building of a future based on their nonsense? If you look at the hard line Brexiteers half of them will be dead before any new trade deal has been agreed for crying out loud. Either from old age or because they can no longer get the medicines that generally people reaching old age need to keep blinking and breathing.

I go back to my first point… trade deals, the troubles, the risk to the Good Friday Agreement, borders, food shortages, medicine shortages, etc et al… How any leave voter can still support this is beyond me. It’s a cult, there can be no other explanation. It is the beginning of the end for the United Kingdom, mark my words.

In the words of Donald Tusk this morning..
@BorisJohnson, what’s at stake is not winning some stupid blame game. At stake is the future of Europe and the UK as well as the security and interests of our people. You don’t want a deal, you don’t want an extension, you don’t want to revoke, quo vadis? Pretty much sums this shit show up, heh.

Pompeo Orders Ambassador To EU Not To Testify

The New York Times reports:

The Trump administration directed a top American diplomat involved in its pressure campaign on Ukraine not to appear Tuesday morning for a scheduled deposition with House Democrats conducting an impeachment inquiry, according to two people briefed on the matter.

The decision to block Gordon D. Sondland, the United States ambassador to the European Union, from speaking with investigators is certain to provoke an immediate conflict with potentially profound consequences for the White House and President Trump.

House Democrats have repeatedly warned that if the administration tries to interfere with their investigation, it will be construed as obstruction, a charge they see as potentially worthy of impeachment.

US Supreme Court to take on gay and transgender rights in the workplace

Does a US employer have the right to sack a worker because they are gay or transgender?

That question, which has caused deep divisions within US society, will go before the Supreme Court on Tuesday at a time when the political scene has already reached fever pitch over efforts to impeach President Donald Trump.

The Trump administration has effectively thrown in its lot with the employers, backing a narrow interpretation of a 1964 civil rights law banning discrimination “on the basis of sex.”

“Sex refers to whether you were born woman or man, not your sexual orientation or gender identity,” argued Solicitor General Noel Francisco, representing the government’s position before the court. He said it is the job of Congress to update the law, not the justice system.

How is this even a thing in 2019? It is astonishing how they are trying to normalise discrimination just because they can... and with this SC - they may just win. If they do win then every right thinking person out there needs to be prepared to Boycott any comany that tries to do this...

Here's a novel idea

I keep seeing headlines that the GOP is 'struggling with its impeachment strategy.' How about the party commits to examining the evidence in a fair manner and acting in the best interest of the country?

Honesty? Transparency? Fact based decision making for the benefit of the country? That would be something!

Is this the straw that breaks the camels back?

Have the BBC news on in the background as I work and there was a clip of Lindsey Graham on the phone with Fox News slamming the Turkish / Kurdish debacle... and he was not complimentary about the decision coming out of the White House...

...Saying a big win for Iran & Assad, a big win for ISIS, he will do everything he can to sanction Turkey if they put one foot in North Eastern Syria...

Seems to me that for once the toady is putting his head above the Trump parapet to do what he considers the right thing... very rare conduct indeed and maybe this is the issue that makes Trumps enablers scatter?

Heh.

Merkel: Northern Ireland must stay in Customs Union, or deal is 'overwhelmingly unlikely'

https://twitter.com/bbclaurak/status/1181495898431528960

1. PM spoke to Merkel at 8am this morning - No 10 source says she said there could only be a deal if Northern Ireland stays in Customs Union, if not, then deal is 'overwhelmingly unlikely'

2. No 10 says PM stressed to Merkel UK believes they had put forward a reasonable new deal, but with no desire to engage on EU side + this demand on NI staying in Customs Union a deal is 'essentially impossible'

3. No 10 source says 'talks in Brussels are close to breaking down, despite the fact the UK has moved a long way' - today's 8am call described as a 'clarifying moment'

4. Feels like any chance of a deal this month just died

The EU was never going to agree this offer, because it is a shit offer...
No deal this month. It remains to be seen if Boris Johnson will comply with the Benn Act, or if we will go crashing out? We shall see...

And the number 10 blame game begins..
